There is a thing I do on media, I turn the sound off and watch the facial expression of whoever acts or speaks and it tells me so much about the person psyche when not distracted by the words. Holly comes out as such a joyful, unpretentious generous person, so beautiful. That is why we instantly love her

I'd put to sea with you any time!! Creative, intuitive, and funny!! So nice to see you in Auckland (and also the rest of the country too, so much to see and do!!), which has been my home for my 58 years on this planet. You quickly caught onto the fact that Auckland/upper north island can have all 4 seasons in one day, Sun, rain, gusty patchy wind, calm, and gnarly sun.......The Hauraki Gulf is a great place for boats, lots of islands to hide behind when the weather gets snotty!! I so enjoy your channel!!

The Jabsco is a good choice as they are simple, they work and parts are readily available. Hope you got the newer "twist-n-lock" model. I strongly suggest you install a vented loop between the pump and the bowl, and ensure it is well above waterline at all angle of heal. Also use the Raritan PPII Joker Valve # C253 instead of the Jabsco Joker valve. The Raritan two-lip design does not snag paper and allow back leakage like the Jabsco three-lip design. I use waterproof Lithium grease to lubricate the pump.

Jabsco is a very cheap head. not very good. Raritan is a much better head but they do coast a bit more. Practical Sailor rated Raritan #1 plastic pump head.
@robm.4512
@robm.4512 Жыл бұрын
@@edwardhart8449 Fine, I don’t disagree, but try finding spares for them in the middle of nowhere special. Jabsco, on the other hand, haven’t changed the core parts design for many decades and spares are available wherever there’s a sky overhead. Given that the Jabsco product functions adequately and the parts are available and relatively cheap, though not quite as elegant a design it wins hands down for a round-the-world cruiser. Just my opinion, but as a now retired, liveaboard, yacht engineer I’ve had the joy(?) of servicing pretty much every variety of floating bog in many of the more out of the way places on the planet, often whilst fending off the insistent demands of bum-clenched charterers. Trust me, that clarifies one’s views of the human race too. 😂 Cheers! R.

Nice one Holly...You came very close to my current house when you mountain biked the Old Ghost Road...I was a bit disappointed that I didn't bump into you! In this weeks vid, at about 16:18 there is a bunch of boats sailing behind you...that is the exact spot that I learned to sail in the late 1970's....first capsize was in that spot too! It was a good place to learn to sail - lots to deal with - ripping current, sand bars, lots of moored boats and lots of boats sharing the channel....so you had to keep your eyes open and have a good understanding of the rules of the road at sea...

Jeez Holly, choosing your first doublebraid splice to be old line, previously loaded hard, and around a thimble is pretty brave. From your comments it seems like you got it done but I bet that cover was as tight as a tick. Onya if you got it done , no shame if you didn't. It has to be a special circumstance to get me to splice old line. Nice head install too.

For the "needle thinghy" I suggest getting some fairly stiff mousing wire/welding wire or old straightened out stay wire (separated and cut). Say 600mm (2ft), you then bend it in half, which gives you a loop at one end/ two tails at the other. Push the loop in where you want the rope to come out towards where the rope needs to come in till the loop appears. Trap the rope in the loop and pull it through. Here's a vid of someone using a fancy version they made earlier kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n5NdpbqYsuDJh4E.html
