Overlanding Trip Prep; Snorkel, Suspension, Pack & Hit The Road!! Ep1

It's finally time to get on the road, but we had the last couple finishing touches to still do to the ROAM 2.0 Hilux! First up, the Toyota Genuine Snorkel that I bought, then I head to Onca offroad and picked up the new SPC Upper Control Arms, which meant that I could visit Fox South Africa again to get the 700KG Coils installed to help carry the weight of the heavy front end, and get the front end lifted up a bit more. I also decided to upgrade my headlight bulbs from Halogen to LED with a set of JW Speaker LED globes. With the vehicle almost ready to go, it was just time to pack the vehicle, I go through some new ways that I can pack the vehicle and cant wait to see how it all works on my trip. To kick of the trip I collect my buddy Marcus who will be joining me and we make our way to Lady Grey for our first night of camping in the Rooftoptent! A seriously epic trip awaits us for sure!

Snorkel truly does look badass. I was under the impression that snorkels are used for wading, thanks for not making me look like a dumbass in the future! Just watched those montages and 😍 half the video is gorgeous wallpapers

It was a sensational trip! My laptop literally got stolen yesterday, so I am hoping that A; I have the footage from the trip still and B; I get a new laptop this week so I can edit the video! I’m completely shattered after everything last night so let’s hope I can get back on my feet soon

Congrats on another great video. Well done for continuously creating great content, great story telling, and for never slowing down. You deserve all the success you receive. You literally earn it every time you set up a tripod to film a cupboard opening, when you get out the car, drive back round, drive past to film your car then drive back again to fetch your camera, AND when you sift through hours of footage just so you can give us the good bits. Thanks for the continuous class and inspiration. My channel is tiny compared to yours but from a fellow KZfaqr, well blimmen done!

Primer is hydroscopic if not overpainted water will migrate through the prime and start rusting the steel underneath. Rig looking good 👍.

Snorkel! Good idea! (Don't know why but reminded me of a movie from the 90s where a guy drove his Porsche 928 into a river. Next scene, the mechanic comes out to speak to the driver, "Okay, so who's the U-Boat commander?") Here in Malaysia, where we get rain like every day, Ram air type intake on the snorkel can be a concern. I've seen pick-ups with similar type intakes swivel it 180 degrees to face backwards. This is just to prevent rain from being sucked in. Not sure how well it works though.

So this snorkel has 2 areas that can shoot the water out 👌🏻 so it should be good. But be safe and think about it for your area. We don’t get that much rain here

You will need a very light anti smash tint, its both a good preventive security feature and also from protect you from the heat, beautiful rig! ❤️👌

I fitted it aftermarket it’s a very cheap upgrade directly from Toyota, it cost me R1.7k I think 👌🏻 soooo worth it!

Thanks boet! I knew about it through my Garmin Overlander; there was a campsite on iOverlander, so I planned it as an emergency stop Incase we didn’t make it to our campsite. It’s just overlooking Lady Grey

Hey Danie; from Motus Toyota on Malibongwe. But it’s been a bit of a disappointment, the little grid on the ram head fell off and I have been struggling to get a replacement. I would get intouch with Terrain Tamer SA and get a Safari snorkel, if I had to do it again. Pop Marinus a mail on Marinus@donkyatt.com.au he’d be able to help you out

Because it’s Auto, I don’t really know 😂 it just does what it needs too! But I am loving it 👍🏻 would advise going with the 2.8 if you want to build it out as much as mine, but the 2.4 is handling it well considering

The Jimny is amazing right off the show room. The Hilux needs some more modification; but once modified, the Hilux is incredible

Headlights bulbs that replace the actually headlight bulb; and I think around R2k.

Space and safety; it was small and doesn’t handle very well, and that just gets worse when you make it heavy. For my needs this Hilux is amazing, it’s comfortable, safe and has space for my family. Plus it’s still amazing offroad 👍🏻
