@@ActonCreative handweavers pattern book by anne dixon. Would you recomend me buying the one of marguerite porter ? Or another one just about overshot?

@@aknittingbakery I love that book! It's my favorite, hands down! Here's what I would recommend. Stick with the Anne Dixon book for now. It's such a well-rounded book, you can't go wrong! Then if you find that you absolutely love overshot? Definitely check out Marguerite Porter Davison's book!

Hi Chris. Thank you for all your great instructions! I have been weaving less than a year and am currently trying overshot for the first time. You reference Davison's book, Wandering Vine pattern (too difficult for me at this point!). As I understand it, her patterns are all for a sinking shaft loom (hence the x's instead of the o's in the tie-up), and you are apparently using a rising shaft, as I do. How do you change that pattern to fit your loom or is it even a problem?

Hi Gayle! I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos! This is a great question! You do need to make an adjustment, but it's an easy one. Here's an episode all about it - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g8eKmbZll9ungWQ.html

I still don't know how to achieve plain weave in between.... some of patterns doesn't give the plain in any heddle combination...😏 help!
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Жыл бұрын
Hi Sandra! Here's what typically happens. Following the threading of the heddles per your pattern - don't worry about adding anything. Then, tie up your treadles as specified. One at a time, lift the shafts to see which yarns move. From there, find which combination of shafts lift every other yarn. Use that to create your plain weave. This might mean that shaft 1 lifts 1/2 the yarns and 2&3&4 lift the other half. Or maybe 1&2 together lift 1/2 the yarns and 3&4 together move the rest. More than likely you'll find a combination of shafts that will create plain weave for you! Let me know if that helps!

Thank You for such a long answer, love you! 💖💖💖💖 I was trying to figure it out by just looking at pattern and I think that got me very frustrated (too many numbers made my eyes freak out) I am just waiting for 2 new heddles to arrive and I wanted to try overshot on more complicated pattern.. but I was afraid its impossible to get plain weave without weird adjustments and manipulating the original threading. You are great! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Thank You again!

If I want to make a table runner what is the best yarn to work for an overshot project?
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Жыл бұрын
Hi Diane! Great question! The beauty of a table runner is its flexibility and variety! It doesn't need to be super thick or thin. And depending on how you want to use it, it doesn't have to be washable. So, the world is your oyster! When planning for overshot, just keep in mind that you need 1 weft yarn for the background, and another weft yarn for the pattern that is 2-3x as big. If you haven't played with overshot yet and this is your maiden voyage, I would recommend using whatever yarns you have. Then as you get a feel for it, you can make more specific plans for the next project. I hope that helps!

How would you weave overshot without the halftone, ie Monks belt? Can you create those gently curving lines as Monks Belt?
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Жыл бұрын
Hi Jackie! Can you tell me more? What do you mean by halftone?
@jackienemecek7052
@jackienemecek7052 Жыл бұрын
@@ActonCreative when I look at overshot, I see a "shadow" of the main pattern on each side. I'm told this is called the halftone. In Monks Belt, that "shadow is missing. But Monks Belt seems so square, not curved. Just wanted to know if the curves seen in this vines pattern can be accomplished as Monks Belt? I'm a slightly advanced beginner, so I may have terminology wrong.
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Жыл бұрын
@@jackienemecek7052 Hi Jackie! That's so interesting - I've never heard that before! To create the curves, it really comes down to a combination of how your warp yarns are threaded into the shafts and the treadling of the pattern. Does that help? Let me know if I can further clarify anything specific!
