When I went to the gunshop years ago and was handling a firearm similar to this one, the guy at the counter calmly explained, "Yeah, it's not a shotgun... Shotguns have shoulder stocks... It's... it's a firearm that is capable of firing 12-gauge shells without a shoulder stock. Perfectly legal, but there is a distinction." I could almost hear the "I guess" from inside of his head.

Since this video was made, the Shockwave has officially been designated “firearm - not otherwise specified”. And I’ve heard some states still ban Shockwave and other “non classified” firearms.

It has been made my understanding that because the "handle" is fixed to the firearm and thus not able to be fired from the shoulder, it is basically a big pistol, and therefore it is not illegal even with the small barrel length. Now, if someone were to affix a stock to it, it is then a shoulder fired weapon and would fall under the SBR category of the ATF rules. My main source of this is someone who did have to go through the paperwork to get a tax stamp to make his Shockwave an SBR by adding a stock.

just some video ideas... 1. fire 2 or 3 golf balls from your cannon 2. show us all your guns and how many you have (might be a hour long) 3. fire 2,000 rounds of .22 long rifle at a level 3a armor 4. fire enough rounds of 50 bmg to make a hole in a safe 5. buy the cheapest rifle you can get and do a test like you did the Hi-Point a while ago thats all I got, please like if you would like to see some of these and so Mat can see.

I ran lots of rounds and many different loads through mine. Haven't had any problems yet. Good little hallway sweeper. I keep mine loaded with bird , bird , 00 , slug. In closet on top shelf.

It's a shotgun. Even a level 3 vest ain't gonna stop the kinetic dump when it takes 000 buck. Sure the buck won't go through, but it's still going to bust up whatever is under that armor (physics suck) due to the law of conservation of energy. And there won't be near the mess as a head shot

@@nicholashodges201 unfortunately cracking ribs and knocking them to the ground, while certainly useful, still isn't quite as effective as putting a round through someone's heart or lungs.

@@lizgayle14 read up what happens when ribs are broken by high velocity impacts. It generally looks like a 12 gauge filled with bone went off inside their chest. This is often lethal w/o penetration, and is always a fight stopper. Even w armor at indoor defense range, that's what's going to happen as that mass of shot has no time to spread

I want to agree it is a pistol too. but he said a pistol cannot have a smooth bore. I am trying to find where rifling classifies a pistol but coming up short.. Everything I have read makes this a pistol. a "pistol" is also defined to shoot "a" projectile, this is where it gets muddy since a "shot gun" can shoot "shot", but they also make shot shells for pistols.. jesus christ WHY WHY WHYYYYY does it have to be so complicated?!?!?! my brain hurts now.

I have a 590 shockwave. You can get a ported barrel for it from brownells and a laser saddle. Makes it super easy to shoot.

I think the shockwave is definitely interesting but I can't help but feel skeptical of effectively wielding a shotgun without a stock. At the very least I'm skeptical of my ability to do so.

I don't blame him for not carrying duct tape. Duct tape in the heat starts oozing adhesive and it gets on everything and makes the tape very hard to unroll and not as long term hold.
