This is the Ox Ultraflex review and today we're going to discuss whether it's worth adding to your arsenal of tools!
This is Ox's flexible trowel which from first glance, looks like a very good trowel. However, we need to test it!
We'll test performance, price and handling against 2 other major companies: Refina and Nela. Let us know what you think about this trowel by leaving any comments and feel free to get in touch. Heres a link to the Trowel below.

I also have been using the ox ultra flex about 2 months. Your right it does help with the fatigue. A great trowel Keep up with the great videos.

You can tell a good plasterer from how clean you keep your trowels.. When I see folk with really dirty trowels it makes me cringe. Nice to see yours are in good order 👍👌

@@hoolieye7131 I know that bad plasterers have dirty trowels. As you can't make a good job with shitty trowels. Well worn but clean trowels are a sign of someone who takes pride so it's a good indication is all I'm saying bud

Ian Thompson no worries mate, there's just too much plasterers slandering each other and that is one of the ways they do it. I know some messy people but have never had a complaint about their work, so that's why I pulled you up on that talk. No worries brother

refina superflex 3 is out btw. It would be nice if you could give that a try. I'm not sure what the difference is compared to v2. Refina Plaziflex Spatula Plastic plastering Rule 800/1000/1500mm is also out. You said you loved the grip of the refina rule that had a stainless steel blade but i don't think you have tried one with a plastic blade. Would be nice to know your thoughts. I'm thinking of buying the 1.5m long version and a 45cm one from Ox as 80cm is the smallest refina make. I notice that you have an arch in the background, i'd be interested in knowing how you plaster one of those, maybe you could make a video explaining the method of doing an arch. Also what advantages and disadvantages are there between aluminium and plastic hawks?

Hi Blaine be interested to know, if you had to choose one Flexi trowel. What one would you go for? As I've seen you recently also tried the Nela black edition.

Great video as always, iv watch 90% of your videos and really considering really going for it, my house only of course, what trowel would you consider for the first and second coats. Obviously I'm Gathering you on need 2 trowels. If you have time send me a Amazon link for the first trowels thanks pal

Hi mate! I'd recommend getting the Marshalltown Permashape. This is the trowel with the gold handle and if you're just starting out I'd recommend getting the stainless steel version. They are quite expensive but definately worth investing in 👍

I use the new nela 2 and the lad I work with all the time uses the new ox they both more or less the same apart from price ! I'll be buying the ox next if anything happens to my nela just coz its cheaper 👍

Nela make the ox Trowels. Basically the ox trowel is the old nela mk1. Now nela have used a higher grade steel on the mk2s

Hello Blaine,could you give some guidance to beginners about pricing up jobs.I know that different areas around the country e.g London will charge more but it might be helpful if you could tell us how you would go about giving a customer a price. Cheers,Paul in West Wales.

This is tough pal! The prices vary so much from place to place and to be honest, im just exposing myself to major criticism if I do this! I can't actually tell you what to charge because each area has it's own rates and it even changes from different areas in the same TOWN! It's too hard to gauge pal... Sorry

Charge what you want for a day rate, and so long as your work is up to par, if they want the job done they will pay, if not they will go else where, some blokes are quicker then others, I ended up skimming a lounge where the customer said I was to expensive, got a cheaper price they made a right mess, they paid them , then asked me to come back and overskim the lot for the original quote, so if your rates are sensible I'd stick with what you want

Having been on the hunt for a flex trowel I have come to the conclusion that cost doesn't come into it. The difference in price is not much at all especially when you consider how long you use it for. Interested to hear your opinion on the most expensive flex trowel....the marshalltown permaflex which is available for approximately £60

I don't like it mate - it's extremely expensive and in my opinion, it's just ok. I also thought it was very weak - I wasn't impressed at all my friend!

@@PlasteringForBeginners I recently purchased the new refina superflex 3 rose gold and the quality is quite simply outstanding. The handle looks identical to the marshalltown but feels more grippy. That's a trowel you got try out!

Arite mate, just a quick question if you can spare the time, with watching your previous vids you say you can hit the plaster slightly earlier with your Refina Superflex 2, my question is, would you do the same with your new beloved Ox Ultraflex? Cheers.

Hi mate! It is stiffer than the original Superflex so you could probably use it as you would the Superflex 2 - it should be fine pal 👍

@@PlasteringForBeginners Cheers mate, just a little tip for yourself, its no big secret, bita therapy for your wonky Elbow get yourself a hard trigger point ball with the dimbles on it the size of a golf ball, bop it against wall and roll it up down and across those weary tendons and muscles surrounding tennis elbow, it will break down all the crap associated with repetitious work, helps me good luck mucker.

You can use the standard Ox trowel but but the Flexi. You can only use this for the latter stages of plastering 👍

Never lay on with a flex, it’s in the name. Way to flexible, will leave lines. Lay on with a steel Marshall

@@adamowen5982 better than ever man. It’s still my favourite trowel of all time. Just bought a new 18 inch one too but haven’t used it yet. I’ve used all the different brands but marshalltown is the best. Probably why they cost a little more but I’m still finding them on Amazon for 50/55 each.

No mate...it's only designed for the final stages of plastering. It's too flexible. It would create ripples in the plaster 👍

@@PlasteringForBeginners I was only messing mate . The flexi trowels are good bit can get damaged easily, I've had a nela and refina and they've both got lkinked blades after getting dropped by accident. I turned the nela into a fat midget trowel lol

I've had ox from start . Only downside the metal.edge gets damaged very easy. Specifically when stupid labourers dont put them back in van properly

I don't know where the steel is from, (probably China to be fair), but these trowels are definately made in Germany.
