Hi Kate....I've been using LOS for a few years now and love the look it gives my finished piece. With regards to getting rid of any unused LOS, I found a site which said to add baking soda to the mixture to neutralize the compound. Within hours of adding the baking soda, the color of the water is clear again and safe to dispose of. Great video....you gave me some info I wasn't aware of regarding polishing the final piece.

The baking soda only changes the LOS solution from slightly acidic to a more neutral solution. It does NOT remove the sulfur from the solution. Even drying out the LOS solution won't remove the sulfur from the solution. It will just end up dry on the surface of the container.

Very informative, thank you. I an somewhat closer to understanding the Sunshine cloth. I noticed you used the yellow. What is the difference in the pink, blue and yellow?
@beaducation
@beaducation 6 жыл бұрын
We only sell the yellow so that is all we are familiar with. Sometimes the other colors either have a bit of grit to them or have a different polishing compound.

do you know how it works on aluminium or what you could use to make the engraving/stamping stand out ? ?

+charlotte woodley Hi Charlotte, sorry for the late reply! You could use ink, or enamel paint or gilders paste. Check them out on our site :) www.beaducation.com/home/search?qry=pat005%2C+pat010%2C+pat014

Thank you for this great lesson. I tried to blacken a whole band(without any engravings) with oxide,but I have seen that after a day of wearing the ring black began to disappear .For how long does the liver of sulfur hold?. Thanks...
@beaducation
@beaducation 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Moshe, the black does rub off on the surface but will stay deep in the engravings/stampings because nothing is coming into contact with those deep spots. Liver of Sulfur holds for a very long time, but again, only in the deep impressions.

What is better for stainless steel bracelets and rings? STAMPING or ENGRAVING??
@beaducation
@beaducation 8 жыл бұрын
+Fleur Miranda Sheaf Hi Fleur. Stainless can be tricky. Like all metals, it can come in different "hardnesses". Most stainless is pretty hard by nature but can be stamped on by stamps rated specifically to stamp on stainless. If you use other stamps not made for stainless, you will ruin the stamp. Engraving is also do-able on stainless but because it is hard, you will go through bits pretty fast. So there is no right or wrong, just a few things to consider. Hope this helps :)

Many thanks for such a detailed and descriptive video. I am interested in creating copper pieces with verdi gris or turquoise patina colours, relic looks I call it... My question is, how safe is it to wear items that have patina, no one seems to mention that. I don't want to sell items that may cause allergies etc.
@beaducation
@beaducation 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris! This is a great question. Obviously there are an endless amount of techniques to patina metal. So, I can't speak to them all. If you're concerned I would consider sealing your pieces once they're complete. This will protect the patina, but also put a layer between the wearer and the patina. We offer a few choices of sealers on our site. I've linked them below: Jewelry Shield: www.beaducation.com/p/1526-jewelry-making-tools-jewelry-shield Renaissance Wax www.beaducation.com/p/2069-jewelry-making-tools-renaissance-wax-2-ounces Glaze Metal Sealer www.beaducation.com/p/3421-enamel-mixed-media-glaze-metal-sealer-2-ounces

How long does liver of sulphur last if unopened? (liquid form)?
@beaducation
@beaducation 5 жыл бұрын
It can last many years and has greater longevity than the solid form. Liquid Liver of Sulfur will weaken over years but if you keep it super airtight and in a cool dark place, it will extend the shelf life. We have a "working" bottle that has lasted years without a noticeable decline.

So have you ever used the Patina gel and if so, how if at all ,are these related ? Also , I am a bit confused because I watch a lot of craft videos' and the soldering and use of carbonated water and Pickling thing are all these things related somehow for the same uses or am I totally confused?
@beaducation
@beaducation 4 жыл бұрын
We have used the liver of sulfur gel and it works great. We no longer carry it in our shop. This product if for oxidizing (darkening) the metal. Pick solution is to remove fire scale from a piece you have soldered (firing with a torch).

Hi Michal, you can try sealing it with a Spray Adhesive found at craft or hardware stores or you can use our Glaze Metal Sealer www.beaducation.com/zen_products/3421-glaze-metal-sealer.

What is the most efficient polishing method for production work?
@beaducation
@beaducation 6 жыл бұрын
If you are doing a lot of polishing, I would invest in some sort of polishing wheel.
@beaducation
@beaducation 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, hit send too soon, I would look for a large wheel that you just hold the piece against, maybe something with large radials or a buffing wheel. We don't sell that on our site but you could try Rio Grande :)
