It can take many trips and many hours to land your first landbased snapper, the Oz Fish Team offer some pointers as they target these solid fish under the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne.

Honestly it's more exciting catching these big fish from land then from a boat. Anyone can catch big fish from a boat. The challenge is hooking one from land. A lot more challenging. Good stuff. Love the vid 👍🏽

Bloody Ripper! I've spent hours down along the Newport area and only caught 5 fish over 29 cms, largest of which has been 33 cm. Few of the guys down there today (May 12 2018) caught a couple over 35 cm. Top job and love coming down here as you never know!

22/02/22. I Went last week from 8.35am to 5.40pm. Nothing. Use chicken, squid, white bait, and even the oyster and mussels from the surrounding rocks and baby crabs.... nothing lol.

Interesting. In NZ we do similar. Big spring snapper in close. Recently landed a 15 KG + Snapper off the rocks. Vid on my channel if interested. 97.5cm released. But they don't like frozen or salted baits, only fresh big cut baits or whole fish of whatever you can catch at your feet.

In NZ it's easy to catch one land based, this is totally different

@@lachlanoneil8938 Easy....? Easy to say that. Don't know of any suburban spots in NZ you can practically drive up to and have a reasonable chance of a big one. Usually it involves an adventurous mission just to get to a spot. Same species, same hemisphere, same goals, similar techniques, similar peoples, and a similar habitat. Not all that different.... NZ does have an abundance of 'small' snapper though that are 'easy' to catch over summer months. World record is 15kg for shorebased snapper.

i caught a 5.5 kg snapper in the tooradin inlet early feb blew me away havent seen anything near that size in there since not to mention any other snaper

no mate, the most common fish caught are salmon , mullet,flathead, snapper. good luck

The last question! Can I fish in Yarra river which is closed to South Yarra? Beacuse I live there!

you will find fish anywhere in the yarra mate closed or not the further up you go the fresher it gets and you'll get trout and cos and black fish in some spots.
