The RV5 Canvas Touring Tent from Oztrail is a robust, award winning and best-selling tent that’s perfect for taking on your touring expeditions across the country.

I've been using this tent for four years now, all over NSW, Qld, down the Binns Track, and across the Simpson Desert. It is extremely well made and as durable as buggery, still like it was as new! And it can be fully put up in just a few minutes, same for taking it down and packing it up. Oztent have a really good product here. The one downside is the bag, mine's taken a bit of a beating up on the roof racks with all the travelling and vibrations from rougher off-road tracks, however I've just ordered a replacement one and I plan to use the old bag as a protective cover for the new bag when up on the roof racks from now on.

Thanks for your feedback, Greg, I haven't had mine for as long as you, but I share your thoughts. It is the first tent I've owned that I feel 100% confident taking outback with me, knowing it will keep me reliably protected against the elements no matter what mother nature throws my way. ~ Ben

How do these hold up in rain and snow? This is the first time I've seen this tent.

Rain is fine, I'd recommend adding the flysheet to the setup for extra protection though, this also helps with condensation. As for snow, they are not specifically designed for this and I'm sure they would handle a light dusting without problems but in heavy snowfall cane should be taken with the build up of snow of the roof area as it is quite a large flat area that won't shed snow efficiently. ~ Ben

We bought a RV5 through snowys. We struggle with the weight and getting it up on our roof racks on our triton...any tips?

This is the only down side of these tents, MyButterflypond. The weight isn't actually much more than your average family sized dome tent, but it's the length and fact that you need to carry it on a roof rack that make it difficult to handle once packed. I don't have any specific suggestions sorry, other than to say "many hands make light work". Maybe other users have suggestions. ~ Ben

The biggest downside is length. It doesn't even fit a pickup bed. Hopefully, someone will come.up with something better soon. Else love the quick setup and packup

The RV series is generally carried on your roof racks @Soumen Bhattacharya, you can get supportive plates for them if required. ~ Lauren

@@SnowysOutdoors thanks. Unfortunately, my Jeep is 3" lifted on 37" tires. I cannot accommodate a roof rack due to my garage height. It is standard garage height.

I’m surprise that the mesh is on the inside of the tent for the rear window and the front door rather than the outside with the canvas in the inside. Don’t you need to go outside the tent to adjust the airflow?

You would need to adjust the rear window from the outside, woolengrappler, you would not be able to be set up as a weather-protected awning for ventilation in humid conditions if the canvas was on the inside. The front doors can be adjusted without having to leave the tent in that all you need to do is open the mesh, roll back the canvas and do up the mesh again, and you can reach the top vents once the front door is open. Whilst the side windows have the mesh on the outside and are well weather protected, having the canvas on the outside of any entry provides protection without the need for extra seam sealing and overlapping fabrics. ~ Ben

Great video. Unfortunately not the correct pack up procedure if you read the instructions on the tent bag. You need to fold B back before A. Your instructions tell us to do A before B which isn’t right. Like a lot of instructional videos on you tube, the people doing the videos don’t really know what they are doing.

That's a bit judgemental! I'm more than happy to admit if I'm wrong, and I certainly don’t claim to know everything, but you might want to double check on those instructions. ~ Ben
