Check out the Oztent RV 5 Plus Canvas Touring Tent here:
www.snowys.com.au/rv-5-plus-c...
With all the classic features of the RV tents but with extra bells and whistles, the RV-5 Plus Tent takes the touring tent to the next level.
With the same size, same high quality 8 oz ripstop polyester canvas, 30-second frame, and large attached awning as the original RV but with improved zips for more water protection while attaching accessories. The plus also features an extra SkyMesh Skylight for a full, insect-free view of the stars and an included fly which reduces condensation out in the field.
In this video, our gear expert Ben shows you how to set up and pack up the RV5 Plus Canvas Touring Tent from Oztent.
He starts out with the packed dimensions and weight, what you get in the bag, and then begins setting up the tent. Ben folds the tent out, attaches the fly, sets up the frame, pegs the tent down, secures the fly and adds the poles, and then sets up the peaked awning.
Then he shows you the process in reverse and gives you some tips for packing it up in windy weather and on how to fold it up to fit neatly inside the carry bag - so check it out above for all the details.

Thanks Ben for your great demonstrations. We are so thrilled with our RV 5 Plus tent and we've also purchased all the accessories and they have added to making this an enjoyable camping experience. Just a note that we were able to attach the fly after the tent was set up. We do have raised camp beds to make it easier. Just undid the rooftop window and reached through and it was easy to attach. We also took off before packing away as it's quite a squeeze getting back into the bag - we packed the fly elsewhere. Absolutely love our purchase and appreciate the advice and customer service Snowys provide. We spent weeks researching and your demonstrations helped us make the decision. We've used the tent twice since purchasing in February and during gale force winds on the South Coast. It certainly stood up well beyond our expectations. We've been camping for 30 years and this is our best investment yet. Thank you and the team from Snowys. Cheers Christine

Thanks for your comment, Christine. I too love my Oztent. I have an RV5 and it has kept me comfortable and dry in all sorts of conditions from dry heat and tropical storms to icy winter nights and strong coastal winds. I'm glad our videos were helpful. Happy camping! ~ Ben

Love my Tent! It was an investment but cheaper than a rooftop tent and it doesn’t burden the car being on the roof all the time. We sometimes don’t take the living room attachment when we do quick trips and because it comes in a separate bag we don’t have to sort before we go. The flat pack is very heavy though. I personally can’t lift it (husband does the lifting). So quick and easy to set up too and all the windows create great cross flow. Going from a cheap dome tent to this has been a fantastic upgrade that was worth every penny. Also, I remember watching all these videos before I purchased. So helpful and made me decide to buy this brand. Well done 👍🏼

Hi Ben Very nice demo on RV5 plus set up and packing. We wanted to also buy the walls for the extension / awning to create an additional room. Is this part of RV5 plus or would that be additional? If it is additional, request you to point out the right product please. Thank again for all your videos. Regards Djay
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
You would need additional panels to enclose the front awning Djay. The side walls come as a pack of two (www.snowys.com.au/rv-plus-peaked-side-panels), you'd then need a front panel if you want to enclose the space (www.snowys.com.au/rv-plus-front-panel). There is no zip in floor but the Oztent Mesh Floor savers fit neatly under the tent and covers the ground area in the awning, once the storm flaps on the walls are pegged down it becomes a pretty weathertight space. You'd need the RV5/RX5 size floor saver here - www.snowys.com.au/rv-mesh-floor-savers. I hope that helps. ~ Ben

Great video. Do you sell or recommend an 270 awning that joins onto the front of this tent. I am aware the fox wing does so, but chasing a pole-less 270 degree awning
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
The Foxwing is the only awning I am aware of that will easily attach to this tent, Chris. You may be able to make others work with a little customization though. ~ Ben

I’ve just bought this tent from Snowy’s! Quick question... do I need to “season” the canvas the same that I would do for my swag?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
No need to season it, 4x4therapy, it won't hurt, but not necessary because the seams are sealed. Seasoning is more relevant when referring to cotton canvas swags rather than the newer polycotton blended fabrics that can be made waterproof by sealing the stitch points with tape applied to the stitch points. ~ Ben

Love this tent but feel it may be a bit small for a family of 4. Would you recommend this or a Coleman Instant Up 8P Lighted Northstar Darkroom?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 10 ай бұрын
Depends on the style of camping you do & how often. Ben has this tent for his family of 4, including teens, and has no issues. The benefit of the RV series is its made of canvas and has longer terms durability and use cases in a broader range of weather conditions. All spare parts, and accessories such as awning walls, ground sheets, awning extensions, etc are available. Its also a great tourer option as you can pop it up for 1 night stays without the awning or fly, etc The Coleman tents are a great option for the occasional camper who are looking for a basic, budget conscious family tent. Theyre a great option, at a great price, and give you more room for stretcher beds, camp furniture, etc. Packs to a more convenient size than the RV, which needs roof racks. If you're an occasional camping family, or camp alot but largely stick to grassed, sheltered caravan park style camping, the Coleman would be a great option. ~ Lauren

How Long does it take you to set the whole tent up and take down? And is there any setup difference between the rv5 plus and rv3 plus? Thanks.
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
The video we've filming is ultimately in real time @SamueL Da Hotshot, with abit of extra yaking from Ben. So you'd be safe to be around the 15-20min mark. The difference between the two tents you mentioned is just the overall size, but the process will pretty much be the same. ~ Lauren

Cannot decide between this tent, the RX5, the Darche Airvolution AT-6 and Zempire Aero TXL.
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Tough decision, David. I reckon the RV Plus tents offer more versatility and accessory options than the RX5 but you'll be doing away with the zip in awning floor. The AT-6 and Aero TXL probably offer more living space making them more suited to family camping, but I reckon setup will take a bit longer with the extra pegs required to set it up. If you want something to set up and take down night after night i.e. for 4WD touring then the RV tents are a great option. On the flipside if you want to set the tent up and stay put in one spot for a family getaway, then one of the other two tents will offer more livability. I use an RV5 and love it, hopefully this helps with your decision. ~ Ben

Are you confident that the skylight wouldn’t let in wind driven rain if the tent had been set up without the fly?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 9 ай бұрын
Given that the skylight is a mesh window, you'll 100% get rain through it if you leave it open in wet weather. You can add the fly and keep the skylight open to help manage condensation, or if you've left the fly at home, just zip closed the skylight canvas until the rain passes. ~ Lauren

If Ben ever meets GOD. Ben should ask GOD for a second set of hands. I like this tent and I like how you have the other new tents set up in the back ground. I think it would be cool if there was an audience in rows of chairs and you were wearing a wireless microphone.

Rip stop material is not actually canvas... the industry mistakenly calls it canvas....
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Ripstop is used in all sorts of fabric, it simply refers to a thicker/stronger thread in the fabric usually in a grid pattern that prevents any tears from becoming too large. I guess traditionally canvas was used to describe a 100% cotton material, but nowadays is is also used to describe polycotton materials which contain a percentage of cotton and polyester. The thicker threads are usually polyester as they have a higher tensile strength than cotton. The take on this nowadays is that polycotton canvas offers the best that both canvas and synthetic have to offer, and they can be treated with PU coatings making them more waterproof. ~ Ben
