P-51 Mustang RC build of a great planes kit Part 1: the fuselage

This is documentation of my P-51 Mustang RC build of a Great Planes kit. This part is the fuselage build and the modifications I had to make so that it was more to the scale of a real P-51D Mustang.
There are more videos of this build with modifications made to it including, my design of the flaps, the working exhaust system, retractable landing gear, retractable canopy, and making panel lines and imitation rivets.

Thanks, right now my computer that I have my videos is down. Once I get it back up I will post the "How to make panel line and imitation rivets. After that I will be doing one on making the sliding canopy.

Seems like a lot of unnecessary weight has been added with thicker/more wood, bondo, and scale bits. And why add thickness to the tail to make it "more scale", then leave the trailing edges of the elevators and rudder extra thick instead of tapered like a real P-51? My guess is it's going to be excessively heavy and fly very poorly.

Sorry it took so long to replay, but I just got out of the hospital. The balsa wood added was only 1/8 inch on each side of the tail to hide the wires for the tail clearance light and the elevators to make them propionate to the tail. The weight added was very small. The Bondo I used is a light weight Bondo and was only to fill in some low spots. As it is, after installing the engine the plane in nose heavy add I will have to add some weight behind the COG to balance it out.

That takes guts to not check the alignment before putting the epoxy on.

Not sure what you mean. It was 30 min. epoxy that I used for the hinges. I glued both ends at the same time making sure the hinges were horizontal so once the other end was glued, placed in the stabilizer, and turned up, they would align themselves.

I recently returned to the hobby after a 30 year break. I was horrified to see people sticking servo warts on the outside of there otherwise sleek aircraft. Please stop the madness!

I was going to place the 2 in the rear outside but after looking at it I decided that it may be convenient but it made the plane look like crap. I decide to go with putting them put towards the front and run the small guild link cables, I will show that when I get the room to finish the next video on this plane.
