I'm used to a 1869 metre long runway, so flying from a 533m runway in a PA28-161 with 3 POB was a real challenge! We depart Blackpool and fly over to City Airport Manchester Barton for some circuits on RWY 20 - to me, it felt short! Please like and subscribe it really helps!

Gosh, what a busy circuit. David was working hard, and I was impressed how you were keeping tabs on everyone. Well done.

One ultimate hint for short field landings: Do not think about it :) Check out Helgoland EDXH! The longest Runway is around 480 meters the shortest one is 260 meters. Nice Footage anyway! Thank you for the great work!

Wolff Henry David is a great FISO. He was working very hard during the fly-In weekend!

Wolff Henry Thank you. I try to be as friendly as possible as I feel it relaxes people and can help reduce the stress levels of students in busy environments. I always encourage people to visit the tower and sit with us with a headset plugged in so they can see how we operate and that we're a friendly bunch on the other side of the radio.

Your voice was very calm and reassuring in the video, even under obvious pressure. Great job! I've flown from another airfield, as a student pilot, where one of the FISO's was particularly rude. His attitude over the radio often made me tense and I would ask my instructor to take over radio duty. Whenever I get my licence, I'll make sure and visit you at Manchester Barton!

Great video. Really enjoyed it. Made me feel tons better after my own flight this morning doing flight at minimums including precautionary landings on Barton's runway 14. You think 20 is short? 14 is 398m! Touch & goes are really interesting! Ha ha!

+Steve Middleton I don’t think I’d do touch and goes on there in a PA28! Thanks for watching.

You should come to Derby (EGBD). It can be quite tricky at times and a combination of short final approaches on rwy 35 and rwy 05 leaves you with very little time to sort things out and a group of 30ft trees just before the threshold of 23 leads to an interesting angle😂😂. Great video as always.

Do the rubber bands on the suction mount serve to dampen the vibrations during takeoff/landing?

This reminds me a lot of when I flew to Villamartín LETF (about 550m or so with trees on both ends) being used to the Jerez LEJR 2000+ m long runway!

Very good video as usual! One question: why does the controller say "touch and go at your discretion" instead of clearing you for t/g?
@PlaneOldBen
@PlaneOldBen 6 жыл бұрын
+Fabrizio Albonico it’s an AFIS Airfield.

@@PlaneOldBen indeed he doesn't clear for t/o/landing/t/g, he's just gives circuit informations as it's not a controlled airfield.

Flip me, that was busy. Did you use the manual for landing distance calcs?
@PlaneOldBen

+Chris Dixon yeh I expected that RWY20 might be in use so planned every eventuality, there ended up being much more room than planned but it still felt, interesting!

Excellent vlog. All T&Gs and landing "greased" even on a grass strip. I know that a 1750 foot runway is short; but doesn't the aircraft slow rather quickly on a grass strip??? Not many grass strips in USA (or at least not in areas that I have been in)

challenging when, similar to your flight one has full or almost full house plus the elevation and relevant DA here during the warm months. come fly here for a few days!

Helgoland out in the north sea - the longest runway is 480m with basically nothing between the runway thresholds and the sea - A 737 once did a touch and go there ;) and I still feel to unskilled to land a 172 on it. Another (german) alternative for the very brave: Baltrum airfield on the frisian island baltrum... 360m total runway length...
