Hello again! In this video I start in Mount Shasta and hike through Seiad Valley and FINALLY make my way out of Northern California and into Oregon. Nobody said hiking the Pacific Crest Trail would be easy, and in this video I cry…a lot! The PCT is an adventure, with highs, lows, and everything in between!

You're not weird at all. The person who said that is just rude. Imagine being so rude that you would judge a stranger for being quiet. Don't let others spoil your hike. This is your journey just for you. And thanks for sharing with us. I'm glad you chose to vlog your journey. It's very beautiful as are you.

Wow. Your comments about being an introvert and how that plays out really resonated with me. I feel you on that one, and just know you're not weird at all. Nothing wrong with being quiet and just taking things in. Hang in there!

Thanks Twig. It seems like it's been a while since your last post but it was worth the wait. Thank you for raising the awareness of the sensitivities of shy people. My wife is very shy and over the years I've come to understand the challenges that shy people face. I wish I had some comforting words or some great advice but I don't. I will say that what you are accomplishing on the Pacific crest trail is truly amazing on so many levels. Be proud of that and find strength in that.

I've been continuing to enjoy your videos, but I just had to comment on this one. When you look back on this adventure, I hope it makes you see what a strong person you are. Courage is not being unafraid, unchallenged, and constantly cheerful. To accomplish the things you did; the huge mile days, the extremes of weather and terrain, and the social challenges (I can't even imagine hitchhiking as an introvert), sharing your emotional highs and lows with the public...these are the signs of courage. I don't even know you but I couldn't be prouder of you, and I hope you are as well.

Hi, Twiggy... From one introvert to another, greetings! I’m sooo proud of you for persevering! As an emotionally sensitive individual, I share many of the feelings you’ve expressed on this video! Maybe that’s what led me to become a composer-jazz pianist! I’d love to share some of my work, but with your proclivity to bouts of depression, you might not be positively affected by my work (harmonically rich and asymmetric in form)! I HAVE won major competitions, but introspection doesn’t appeal to everyone! Again, Twiggy, thanks for the kind birthday message! The last day of my 70s is tomorrow... I’m glad I’ll be playing a gig in the afternoon-it’ll keep my mind off the age thing! I’m sending good vibes your way! Keep on keeping on, girl! You have Washington up ahead with Goat Rocks, Alpine Lakes and the North Cascades coming up! You’re gonna love these areas! ❤🎹🏔🌲🥰

Once again, I love how observant you are of detail on the trail both close and far. Maybe this is part of being introverted, eh? Don't change. I just went on a cross-country train trip with my sister. We're both introverts. We had a few great long conversations in our roomette, but we also had to go up and move to the observation car for solitude from time to time. That's how we are.
@twiggyhikes

I love that! Yes it seems being an introvert is about taking things in and not putting things out. I enjoy both depending on my mood but the former is rejuvenating and the latter is draining. Your trip with your sister sounds PERFECT. A good balance of both.

Congratulations! What a fantastic accomplishment to get this far on your own two feet! Something this hard is bound to wear on you physically and mentally, just remember that the other hikers also feel worn down as well and react differently than you do, often poorly. I totally understand the feeling you described. Many people don't put themselves in others shoes and just expect everyone to be like them. My advice is to learn to be ok with who you are and what you do. If there are things in life that we feel we want to work on, that's something we can do for ourselves, but you decide where your energy goes. (and a sneaky congrats)

One of the most recognizable of red-sap-producing trees is the eucalyptus. Eucalyptus trees such as the Eucalyptus robustus and the ironbark eucalyptus tree produce red sap when injured. This specialized sap is designed to quickly cover and coagulate around the tree's wounds, preventing infestation from insects.

Wow, I totally relate to your description of trail loneliness, but also introversion and the need to be alone. People drain my energy and I need alone time to recharge. Amazingly, my partner of 12 years and I are the same: we recharge each other and love being together. But we still need occasional alone time at home: me listening to music, reading, and her doing reading and game development. We both loathe having to go out and socialize, lol. I wish you well!

It is difficult to be an introvert in a world where you are expected to be extroverted. I know that very well myself. I can highly recommend that you read the book "Quiet, The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by Susan Cain.

I get told I'm weird a lot. I take it as a compliment - even when it isn't intended to be. "Normal" after all is just another word for totally Fking average. I like that I see things differently, that I slow down enough to hear things others won't, and that I can see solutions to problems other people might not find. But being different scares other people - and fear causes ppl to do and say some pretty ugly things. Their fear is not a reflection of who you are. Now that you're in OR you're basically in my backyard. I'm SW WA born and raised so everything from Klamath to Puget Sound feels like home compared to anywhere else. I hope you get blue skies as you begin to creep into waterfall country ;)

Hum, I've read a lot of the comments about being and assuming being an introvert person! A lot of supportive people; just loved it. But thinking further, I'm just concluding that you are not that much an introvert person! Exposing this wonderful youtube channel with so much short but so meaningful comments is way far from being introvert. Also, you're so connected to your felling in the blend of this extreme adventure in such gorgeous and wild nature, dealing with bears, pain, exhaustion, etc. And all this with so much depth in the reflexions about it. My point is maybe you're not that an introvert, but a balance person that is well connected to emotions and thinking, that is deeper that average people; and the way you take care of the wildlife tells a lot about it. Maybe you just a balanced person living in an extrovert society that congratulates people that say more than they think, that make noise and bully others. I'm 60 now, I just love to go deep in thoughts, get introvert for a while, but then go out and share with others. I feel this is balance. Sometimes, I have to smile to some noisy people that like to make me feel lunatic. But I stand my ground, not impressed. Sometimes I have to explain that great things take time, and smile, because I understand we are not all the same. But we must respect our own internal "speed", go with the flow, the balance. Conclusion, you're so awesome, just love your videos and comments, keep on going and stand your "balanced" ground! Cheers from Canada.

Wow! Absolutely incredibly said. I think you’re right. There’s a mentality that being quiet is bad (for instance you’ll see articles teaching people how to act more like an extrovert, but not so much the reverse). I’m usually content with my quietness but every once and a while I’m not at peace with it. Thanks for the kind words 😊💕

A lot of long distance hikers suffer from trail depression and exhaustion and there is a simple and easy fix for that. Popular trail food is really bad for the body long term especially those with corn based sugar found in a lot of products. Exertion and incomplete nutrition can cause all kinds of problems with the senses, mental fitness, muscle, tendon, cardiopulmonary irregularities to name just a few of the challenges. Carbs are important but sadly, sugar is not. Try focusing on B vitamins but, the best thing is complete vitamins and minerals and if you can’t get that from your food plan, carry some good quality daily vitamins and minerals for women. Finally, introverts are the highest expression of advanced humans. Revel in your special powers as an introvert and beautiful human. Just remember being an introvert never prevents you from being kind, grateful, and gracious to others for their companionship, or acts of kindness. We introverts don’t need others to validate us, we validate ourselves. Today, most people only know how to invalidate others in order to make their shallow lives seem better. Don’t fall for it. Your internal universe is the best place you’ll ever live. What you gain from your introspection, contemplation, and experience is a deep wisdom you can share, or use to live well and content. Thank you for sharing your life in an authentic and captivating way. I wish you the very best.
