Packed 135 year old Abandoned House in North Carolina w/ Tons of Old Cars

First house was around the great dismal swamp, built in the mid 1800’s then had a large addition and renovation done in the early 1900’s. Bunch of antiques inside and lots of old cars sitting around being consumed by nature outside.
Second house was more middle North Carolina, closer to Raleigh. Couldn’t find much info but I’d guess it was built in the late 19th century.

I get very sentimental seeing the old antique furniture. As a 76 year old woman, I remember these things in my parents' home and my grandparents' home. My mother was the youngest of 10 children, so most things were gone by the time I realized how wonderful "old" stuff is. Thank you for the trips back in time for me.

Confession- when I watch these, I feel physical, to my heart, pain. To see such irreplaceable beauty, rotting, makes my heart, and whole body, hurt 🤕 Thankful to Kappy to at least be able to see these gems, but I will never understand the loss of these stunning, once in a lifetime, things 💔

Same. Often wonder what led up to no one coming around anymore. Know someone with a farm land it's done had two houses on it, first burned in the 40's, second held up until family member backed a truck through the front, it actually stayed up 20 more years like that. Now there's a double trailer house out there, old house still up but can't live in it one side on ground. Family member got the land couldn't bring himself to tear it down, was originally his great great grandpa house. Then his grandpa took over 60 years driving out there 80 mile trip every week. Now he has it. This kind of thing I imagine when watching these but guess there was no one close to keep up with it.

It's a bit of a shock to the system. The waste. There are KZfaqrs who visit old mansions as well, and it is a bit unbelievable what is left behind. I always feel a bit stunned. If I were to come upon these places, I would probably try to find out who owns them, and then I would feel the need to try to buy some of the pieces....just to get them out of there, before they are lost completely.

@jenImbusy : i feel the same... i thought i was just weird... but you see what once was a beautiful home for a family or old couple... it seems to wrong to let these homes rot that way.

@@researchbear3960 I think that a lot of the time, there's a death or disability. Someone can't deal with the home or living alone any more. By the time the person leaves, things are usually going downhill already on the property. Then the kids or others don't want to deal with it, or they can't deal with it. Maybe there is no designated person in a will or estate plan. Taking on the accumulation of another person's lifetime can be daunting, especially if that person is still alive. Or it can become like a monument that someone doesn't want to be disturbed. That one spouse might be so traumatized or otherwise disabled in a way that they just never make it back in, even if they intend to. But they can't let go to allow others to do it. So it is put off, and put off, and everyone gets older and more detached or they die.....years pass.....until someone goes in and makes a video, so that we can scratch our heads and wonder what happened. And why this old home and its things seem so forgotten. Natural disasters might be part of it, but I would say that these sorts of situations are most often somehow connected to the psychological or the emotional. And now they make us sad.

The first house looks like older people lived there, and possibly died, or was unable to care for themselves. It's a shame the antique furniture was not rescued, some beautiful pieces soon to be ruined. The second looked like the old island homes, built many years ago. Thanks Kappy

With all the old furnishings, it wouldn’t surprise me. Wow no tagging, no stuff thrown everywhere,😳😳😳😳 GREAT FIND, also sad nobody is enjoying all that great stuff

Kappy, I don’t know how you are able to continually explore these beautiful expiring homes especially when so much is left behind. I guess your passion for it is a huge driving factor!!! I am grateful, as I’ve said before, for you and your talent and the time you spend doing this!!!! My heart literally hurts for some of these homes that are left to rot alone. It’s hard not to get angry but I try to remind myself we don’t the circumstance in why they are left the way they are. Please stay safe with every explore you do! Thank you for trip in to the past even though some times it’s hard. 💕💕💕

The first house had some really neat furniture and beautiful fireplaces. You can tell it was well loved at one point. The porch was really pretty too! That car at the second house is a Ford Mustang ♥️

Somebody really needs to save all those gorgeous antiques (furniture) before it's too late. And those old wicker porch chairs could be repurposed as well with a fresh coat of paint and some colorful cushions. Argggghhhh....drives me nuts!!

The first house had lots of antique furniture. I love the old curved glass hutch and the treadle sewing machine. The one car you asked about looks like a Pontiac Grand Prix or LTD I could be wrong on that one. The 2nd house full of possibilities. That car out back would be a Ford Mustang early 70's. Both worth saving though. Thanks for sharing and you have a great day

I love that first house! Reminded me of my grandma's house with all the bedrooms with doors to other bedrooms. They don't make them like that anymore. So sad to see it going to waste.

@@Lo2smoove Shotgun houses are little small houses with a small living room up front one or two bedrooms behind that and a kitchen to the rear. Years ago they all had out houses behind them. They were called shotgun houses because you could potentially shoot right through them without hitting anything. My Grandparents lived in one of those but the kids built an addition onto the back and put in a bathroom and septic system.

I love the big sink cabinet. Fireplace is gorgeous. The columns and the old bike are very cool. Pretty furniture sitting around. To bad someone did not take them and someone else use them. Great tour, thank you for sharing. lean on God

Brown car, '63 Chrysler possibly a Newport Red one, '77, '78 Dodge Polara. The Mustang could be a '65 or '66. Maybe even a '64.5. Another good catch Kap.

The red one is either a Dodge Monaco or Plymouth Fury 75-78. Didn't see the grille so it's a little hard to tell what year.

That first house I really liked also those Pillars separating the 2 rooms cool, the red car outside was a Dodge Sedan full sized car around mid 1970's the other car at the other house was a Mustang around 1966-1967.

Thanks, Terry. I thought that looked like a 'Stang, but without any structure between the headlights, I couldn't see the shape of the grill. Looked small, though, so I immediately thought it might be one of the early coupes. (They kept growing and growing...)

One of my buddies in our sports car club had a red "Notch-back" that he outfitted and drove like a true sports car. (He and his dad ran a Firestone dealership, along with an oil distributorship, so it really cornered nice with those Firestone Wide Ovals and a front anti-sway bar he added.) Even the base price 6-cylinder convertible was sporty.

The car at the 2nd house is a 65-68 model Ford Mustang and the one at the 1st house I believe is a 70's model Ford LTD. Both are very collectible classics.

That bike was awesome. Loved all the dressers in the bedrooms and that sewing machine in that one bedroom. Sad that those cars are just rusting away along with the house. Excellent find and thanks for sharing. 👍😊

The Good Housekeeping magazine under the 1999 one had a date of 2006. I think it's really cool how you find the beauty in all of the abandoned homes that you go into. Thanks for sharing. Oh and I always hit the like button before I watch because I know I won't be disappointed.

I would loved to have had a closer look at the old log structure behind the second house. Amazing it looks in such good condition for it's age. Possibly the original homestead on the property.

Another great video. I love watching your tours. I admire your respect for the properties and your obvious enjoyment when you find a great old newel post or some original hardware. Oh, and how you always test out those old piano keys! I have so many questions. Do you drive around aimlessly looking for old houses or do you get tips? Do you enter on your own or get permission from someone first? Do you first do a recon before starting to film? Do you always take someone with you (the backup person) in case of trouble? Have you ever stumbled upon nefarious persons inside of these houses? What is your take on the houses that are crammed to the brim with "stuff"? People just up and move away or die? Stuff left but messed up by intruders? It's all so interesting. Would love it if you did a video explaining some of this and maybe telling about misadventures (such as have you ever fallen through a floor or old stairway). Anyway, so enjoy your work. Thanks!

It is sad to see what had been a beautiful home now just rotting away. Some of that furniture is similar to what my Grandmother had. My mother had a china closet like the one in the kitchen. She was lucky to get it I think when a relative was downsizing. My sister was the one to get it after my mother passed. I had no room for it.

Looks like the ceilings were lowered at some point in the first house. It’s a shame all that old furniture is being allowed to rot away. Maybe the family has died out? Great video Kappy! Thanks for sharing!

@@sjbock ... low ceilings are fairly common out in farm country. I would guess 6 ft 8 in is about right in those days. Also consider the average person shorter 150 years ago.

I know it would be wrong to take anything out of these old homes. I always see the great potential in restoring the furniture to it's new glory. To bad someone can't lay claim to them and give some TLC.

Cool house. You should bring some Febreeze with you when houses smell like that. I suggest Bora Bora waters, it will make the room smell pleasent longer. We keep one in the bathroom and my wife makes me use it every time I sit in the toilet

That first house was a wonderful home at sometime. Would love to see pics from before it was abandoned - and all that restorable furniture!!! Heartbreaking but we are lucky you gave us tours before it’s gone- thank you, Kappy!!! Be safe. I used to go through vacant houses for a living. Fun but dangerous!

Cool old bike, sewing machine, and cedar wardrobe at first house. Car at 2nd house is a 1965 or 1966 Ford Mustang. Maybe the room upstairs at 2nd house was attic with pull down stairs.

Hi Kappy, as I see all those Antique furniture you see, is worth lots of money !! But if not moved to rooms with good ceilings then the roof & ceiling will fall & that furniture won`t be worth a dime! Me...I would at least move it to the good rooms! As for people that come in & search for valuables & trash it by putting it all over the floor is so sad, I would rather they took things then ruin everything. The next is the rusted car outside is a Ford Mustang, but someone came & took the tires, & all the seats, rugs, dashboard & probably the engine! Thanks for sharing this adventure to see this abandoned house & cars! Take care & stay safe from Illinois USA

As always a great find,love that first house,so roomy! I've never seen columns before in a house, but loving the porch! Ur favorite kappy fellow porch lover,the cars are the boat size from late sixties, early seventies,that today would be a miricale to park somewhere, esp in NYC!!

❤❤❤❤🥴🥰The first house is very pretty in front, with that lovely portico and the octagonal attic window! So nice! The screen door in the kitchen is very interesting, and in the corner, another gorgeous china cabinet, this one with its own old glassware! That mantel is terrific and the pale blue walls are lovely! There are a couple of nice old tables in that room, too. Love the columns on the entry to the living room. I wonder if that's a television or a large radio in there. Love the rocker in the corner. Very nice touch. The French door to the other room is lovely! Every mantel is different, it seems, but similar to the others. It's clear that someone put a lot of thought into this house's construction. The amount of antique furniture in this house is stunning and sickening, for knowing that it, like the house, will simply decay. The wide, shady porch would certainly be welcoming on a hot afternoon. All in all, this house is amazingly charming. It reminds me, somehow, of the Waltons' house. Hmm. Thanks, Kappy, for this house and the memory of its beauty. Sorry about the spiderwebs. The second house's design reminds me of the houses in Louisiana. It is incredibly clear and untouched, compared to many we've seen. Beautiful crepe myrtle blooming on one side and a good sized pecan tree on the other. Nice house, all in all. Good find, Kappy! Thank you very much!

I love that curio cabinet in the kitchen. Those sinks are great. They're deep and the water drains right off the drainboard back into the sink. I once had one and loved it. Then we moved. There was a 2006 magazine under the 1999 one. Why is so much beautiful old furniture abandoned? I will never understand that. There's some great woodwork that's worth saving. The sink in the second house looked even nicer than the first one.

First home had 3 bottles of RC Cola on the fridge WOW !! I love that fireplace !! That divider with the columns is so pretty !! Wow a second pretty fireplace !! Sad to see this wonderful old home in this state makes my heart hurt . Wonder who lived here last ....a older man and woman possibly ...some cool old cars as well . That second home was a strange little place inside cool old Mustang . And a nice front porch also great video as always Kappy thank you for taking me along with you always something cool to see !!

The furniture is around the same age as the house! I really hope someone will come along and save it before the weather takes any more of a toll on its historical beauty. I love antiques and it always tears at my heart to see not only a once beautiful home just left to ruin but all of its contents. If only someone would invent a roof that will last the ages and out a STOP to the decay

Metal roofs are guaranteed for 50-100 years.
