On today's show, join Andy Herman as he reviews which Packers are 100% complete locks to make Green Bay's 53-man roster, and which roster spots are still up for grabs through the remainder of the offseason. Don't miss it!
Note - the udfa TE is Messiah Swinson, not Messiah Wilson, apologies for somehow putting Joel Wilson's last name on Messiah

I can see Dillon make the team just because the Super Bowl window is open. And you can trust him. As your third back. Thats great! would it be a rebuild season in GB I would go with a different body there. Thankfully we don´t do rebuilds in GB :)

Just an observation but since last year I don't recall the emphasis on competition at every position being as paramount as it has been the last 2 years. It certainly has helped this "rebuild" to take a fast track. GPG

Hey Andy, I just wonder is there a world where we trade away a WR because we have so many guys at this position?? Maybe to fill a need somewhere else? Lets say there is a rookie WR that looks good. and we feel not super good about our CB room or the edge rushers.

They don’t have any rookie WRs (at least any with realistic roster chances). This wouldn’t be the year to trade. Next year, small chance maybe, if you know you aren’t gonna resign doubs Watson or melton, and one of them isn’t getting snaps or maybe the season is going south, then might as well try and get something there one could argue.

Is Sean Ryan really a lock? Does he have any versatility beyond Right Guard? I can see the Tackle competition being so fierce (Walker, Morgan, Thom, Dillard, Glover et al) that one of them gets thrown into the Right Guard spot, winning the job and then Monk providing Right Guard and Center flexibility that they keep a Donovan Jennings over Sean Ryan. Granted, he is likely to win the Right Guard starting spot, but with the versatility and competition in the O-line, I can see a small scenario where he doesn't make the team.

Eric Stokes as a former 1st round pick has salary guarantees and wouldn't provide the cap savings you mentioned. Unless there is a massive drop-off in his athleticism post injury he will be on the roster. I'm higher on Robert Rochell than most and think he was a stud on special teams while the upside is there for a quality backup at CB with an offseason to show off his athletic traits. It may come down to Kalen King battling Rochell for the final CB spot. If I had to make a 53 man roster at this point in the offseason it wouldn't carry a WR6. As much as everyone seems to love Malik Heath (or Grant DuBose/Samori Touri) the talent drop-off after WR5 Bo Melton and lack of special teams value would make it near impossible for me to justify keeping a 6th as a weekly inactive at the position. I saw Heath mentioned as getting reps as a gunner at the OTA practice and securing such a role on special teams is needed for him to claim a roster spot otherwise his blocking role would be better served going to a TE who carries significantly more special teams ability and his roster spot would be better served going to another position less likely to pass through waivers onto the practice squad. Yes you read that correctly Heath or DuBose, despite the love Packers fans have for roster bubble WRs, are not so valuable that teams will be clamoring to claim our blocking WR over their own roster bubble WRs. I'm not ruling out carrying a WR6 but someone will need to stand out and showing special teams value will be key. The battle for the final few roster spots at OL will be highly competitive and may be the most difficult to predict. They may also have a hard time passing through waivers due to the lack of quality OL across the league so a low value type of trade like we saw with Cole Van Lanen is possible. OL isn't the sexiest of camp battles but it may be unique in that there is a bigger group of fairly evenly matched guys all competing. After shifting to a 4-3 defense and the change in the kickoff rules I do wonder how many LBs the team feels are necessary to keep. Is 5 enough? Quay, Edge, Hopper, McDuffie and likely Eric Wilson with Kristian Welch pushing for a spot. Feels like an important position for both depth and special teams but tough to keep Welch as a 6th even if he provides more value to the roster than guys at other more valuable positions. LB may be a position that is frequently called up from the practice squad for game day.

You convinced me on Stokes but I think he is a 99.5 percent lock. I disagree on TJ Slaton and Sean Rhyan. I think they are about 90 percent locks, but I'm not sure Rhyan is one of the best 5 on pass-blocking and Slaton doesn't seem to fit this attacking style defense as well as he did the old scheme. Slaton is someone I could see being bumped by a surprise FA pickup. Still think all 3 more likely than not to make the 53.

The Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney has impressed just about everyone in the organization as a player and leader in the 2 months since signing as a free agent, but he’s also been impressed with the collection of players around him in the defensive secondary. Xavier McKinney is the key piece of the rebuild at safety, but the Packers also added 3 draft picks, 2nd-rounder Javon Bullard, 4th-rounder Evan Williams, and 5th-rounder Kitan Oladapo, and returned 6 cornerbacks or safeties who have started games for the team in the past 2 NFL seasons. Xavier McKinney and our cornerback Jaire Alexander are difference-makers. Eric Stokes is a former 1st-round NFL draft pick. Keisean Nixon was the team’s go-to starter in the slot. Carrington Valentine and Anthony Johnson, 2 7th-round draft picks from last year, returns after starting games in 2023. Corey Ballentine is back after flashing in a starting role last season. Javon Bullard can play safety or slot. Evan Williams and Kitan Oladapo are interchangeable. Even our 7th round 2024 NFL draft pick Kalen King has a chance to make the roster and contribute at corner. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛

I respectfully disagree on your FB/H role not being a lock. The entire MLF era it was pivotal. from Danny "the Superback" Vitale to drafting Deguara in the 3rd. But once Deguara was injured we didn't go without a FB or turn to Lewis, Tonyan, Sternberger to fill in at FB no, they signed John Lovett off the street and threw him in immediately. When Lovett got injured late in the season we again didnt go without or turn to our deep TE room, we signed Dominique Daffney and again threw him in there immediately. Bro couldn't have known the playbook well at all and we were in the playoff hunt. When Deguara was back neither of them came back, and both those guys were good. But last year Deguara gets injured again and we immediately sign and play Henry Pearson in his absence. Not only that, once Deguara came back Pearson stayed on the 53. he took a spot on our 53 and didn't play a down. FB is a lock, and it's Pearson at the moment.
@Seth_Michael_Hernandez
@Seth_Michael_Hernandez Ай бұрын
Note, each time Green Bay couldn't go one week, not one, without a FB and each time neither Dillon nor any of our many TE's were acceptable, even last year, we had to sign an unknown guy off the street who immediately starts, knowing the playbook or not. FB is not an option, it's clearly a requirement.

I don't see why the Packers wouldn't keep 4 running backs on the roster and make AJ Dillon a fullback multi-purpose player. Dillon knows the playbook and can contribute still at a good level and he's cheap. He's good insurance too.

I think a fun way of looking at this is “would the packers keep them on an initial 53 even if they got injured just to save them” (I know they changed this rule so it doesn’t work like that anymore)

Dillon has only been “it” for one game of his whole 4 year career basically. Barring a complete lapse in pass pro and fumble problems or failure to grasp the offense, Lloyd projects to overtake dillon as number two as soon as those things are sufficient. He’d be the preferred number one RB if jacobs is out. His upside in running the ball is night and day compared to Dillon. Dillon’s had so many chances and he just doesn’t have number 1 RB upside
