Hiking use to hurt a bit but then I found Savotta, now on random rucks now only my wallet hurts. If some one was to come to me and say I'm going to by an Osprey I would immediately send them to savotta almost the same cost and it's "made to endure" and by god they do.

When I head to the woods, I carry, at minimum, a Puukko 110, Silky Big Boy 2000, and an Agawa Canyon bucksaw with spare green wood blade. I don't carry an axe because I find saws safer to use personally.

Hello Tim, just wanted to say that I bought the Kahakka 25 mainly thanks to your review, it was good in explanations and show-its. For maybe another vidéo, it can be cool if you give some example of utilisations (like what this pocket can ideally carry and why ?) your thoughts might be very intéressant. I just discovered your channel like a week ago and it's very cool ! Thanks, Louis

Nice load out, Tim! Good luck on the job. Ever tried Fiskars axes? The handles are great. Hold up really well in the cold.

Thanks Jess :) I have many great experiences with Fiskars, it took a long time but I outfitted the hospice with an entire selection of orange and black goodness. My problem though, I can't stop maintaining my gear. I love the bi-yearly linseed oiling, my homemade beeswax rub on leather... its my quiet place

@Tim_Keys *A well-designed and well-maintained hickory handle on any style of tool is a joy to use.* My grandfather, my father's father, worked on the construction of the *Conowingo Dam that spans the Susquehanna River.* He was injured on the job, fired as a consequence of his leg injury, and subsequently ended up with a *very unique, 10-pound, straight-peen sledgehammer.* The hammer's uniqueness, aside from its straight peen, which was relatively rare for a sledgehammer of that weight, was its very small, slightly tapered, oval eye. The oval eye *measured approximately 1.25 inches long by 1" wide,* with the long axis of the eye in line with the length of the head. *The straight-grained, heartwood, oval hickory handle* was incredibly flexible, and at its thinnest, where the dimensions of the handle were the smallest, it measured *NO MORE than 7/8"×3/4".* Until the handle finally broke in its 8th decade of use, it was the most enjoyable sledgehammer that I have ever swung. My father called it a *Buggy Whip* handle, and if you stood perpendicular to someone using it to break up something like concrete, for example, you could see the handle bend like an archery bow when the head impacted whatever it was that you were trying to break. We oiled that handle religiously at least once a year. I should mention that the grip end of the handle didn't measure much more than the size of the eye and was approximately a maximum of no more than 15% larger than the eye. In addition, the handle was *TRIANGULAR* in shape, being *more isoscoles in shape than equilateral.* It was the only 8 pound plus in weight sledgehammer that I have ever used that *NEVER* gave me a blister.

Can technically do that with any pack/pouch with 4 or more attachment points and some spare field repair quasm buckles
@Savotta
@Savotta Ай бұрын
You can yes, if you either swap out the side compression strap SR buckles on the Jääkäri M to G-hooks, or add female SR-buckles to the side compression straps of the Kahakka and then attach the male SR buckles of the Jääkäri M side compression straps to those.
@Evensteven73
@Evensteven73 Ай бұрын
Yes! I’ve done it by adding Savotta’s 2M WB SR PALS-MOUNT, 25 MM, FEMALE buckles on the Kahakka and using the compression straps on the Jääkäri M to connect it.

Thx for entertaining & informative videos Tim! One question, what's that at 06:32, is it ground sheet, like MPP Foam Mat or... soft armor? I think you were wondering on some previous video if soft armor would fit the back pocket. I'm guessing Sioen 6x10'' (150x250cm) NIJ IIIa+17J side plate would easily go there when inserted vertically, though dunno if it's useless due to its small size (well, smaller than normal 10x12 back plate). But at least it weighs only 143g. Unfortunately selling abroad is forbidden.
@Tim_Keys
@Tim_Keys 24 күн бұрын
Thanks for the love my friend, and that is the MPP Foam Mat. I pulled off the tag to make a patch out of it. And as for armor you might be talking about the PC18 from Varusteleka I am putting together. When it is all put together I will show that too

Speaking of the Savotta MPP not fitting in the 15L. How well does it fit in the 25L? Is it the same size as the stock gray pad?
@Tim_Keys
@Tim_Keys Ай бұрын
In the Kahakka 25L, the grey pad is just a tiny bit longer, but the same width as the Savotta Pad/Mat thing. You are good to go with either one there.

Tim, thanks for the video. I agree 100% on keeping your children's images off of social media. Anyway, my question was regarding the axe loop. Did I hear correctly that you were wearing the Casstrom Axe Loop in Cognac Brown, #11500? If so, then I might just have to consider adding something else to my *"Things I'd Like to Purchase List."* I too own a Jääkäripuukko 110 with the Boltaron thermoplastic sheath and the Blade-Tech plastic hardware kit that I purchased for the Boltaron sheath is just too clunky for my engineer's simplistic brain. In addition to the fact that the hardware is a poor fit onto the sheath. I also have a Skrama 240 but I'm not sure that I will want to carry its weight on my belt. Although, the Skrama 240 is much shorter and handier than a full sized machete.
@Tim_Keys
@Tim_Keys Ай бұрын
I believe that's the color, but yes that is the model. Complete game changer once I got it. I never liked being hooked to carrying the Skrama like a sword but with this system I can carry it and keep it handy for short periods. It still wants me to buy some suspenders to keep it up but short term work is alright.
@brucemattes5015
@brucemattes5015 Ай бұрын
@Tim_Keys Carrying a heavy, long-bladed knife like the Skrama 240 on one's waist for any extended period of time only makes sense to this old man if I was suspending the Skrama 240, or an even longer bladed and heavier machete, from a well-padded waist belt, similar to a war belt in height, that was equipped with a quick-detachable shoulder strap harness. Then, both of my hips, as well as both of my shoulders, would bear the far more well-distributed weight. Then, the only necessity would be finding something of near equal to equal weight to carry on the opposite side of the war belt from the Skrama/machete. The same principles would apply equally to anything from a mini-hatchet all the way up to a mid-sized hatchet with a 1.5lb. to 1.75lb. head and a 16"-20 " long handle. uarmprotection.com/product/armored-war-belt-regular-long/

If anyone knows Savotta's reasoning for not putting additional rows of PALS webbing on the front of either of the new packs as well as the Hatka, I'd love to hear it. I'm the kind of person who loves blowing packs up with attachments and Savotta sort put the damper on that idea.
@Tim_Keys
@Tim_Keys Ай бұрын
Very simply, they were not designed with that in mind. Yes, nature finds a way and people will use the bag as they see fit. But the design is fit for the needs of the Finnish Defense Forces, without adding weight and additional end cost per unit.
@yoinky
@yoinky Ай бұрын
@rusty9045 the funny part about that is that the Hatka with its 4 rows actually has twice as many rows as the Kahakka lol. Both packs coulda have benefited greatly with the addition of just 1 more row in the middle.
@leka34
@leka34 Ай бұрын
@@rusty9045 Worth remembering these are ultimately daypacks/combat packs, not really meant for hauling huge amounts of stuff. For larger capacity, Jääkäri M are both more expandable (more PALS, floating lid) as well as designed for better comfort (e.g. proper hip belt and cushion, backside with air channel). Plus there's some other larger packs coming from Savotta, IIRC later this year.
