This is the first of several videos on how to start practicing left hand pizzicato.
Left hand pizzicato is one of the best exercises for the left hand. It strengthens the fingers, brings the hand into a correct position and increases speed.

There is a similar technique on guitar, called a " pull off", and it really does build strength. You pick the first note and essentially pull the string to play the next note. Done in sequence, it's very effective.

Paganini was an excellent guitarrist as well as a violin virtuoso and he probably developed left hand pizzicato from the pull off technique on the guitarre as well as his chordal approach. Great for strength, speed and precision and only a fee minutes practicing it already brings a lot of results within a few weeks.

I think the height of the string above the fingerboard is far more critical to the difficulty for the first finger in first position than the angle. I found the E string difficult but doable because the string was close enough to the edge of the fingerboard to allow me to pluck down. On the A string this didn't work because the E string is in the way of a downward pluck. It was the hardest string. The thicker D and G strings were a bit easier than the A because there was more string to catch and grip but still not easy. I'm not going to go one step further and rosin my first finger! Move into 5th position and the extra height of the string makes it much much easier.

Yes. The geight of tje strings is the problem in first position and the A-string is hardest. Moving up to a higher position is very helpful but have the goal to move down bit by bit as your finger improves at plucking upward. Don't put rosin on your finger. Lol :) Paganini technique is about long term patient practicing. You'll get it if you keep working at it.

@@luck8999All double stop practicing will help with avoiding hitting the other strings because we have to be so much more exact with our bow when playing on two strings.
