Paige Bueckers may be on her way to being one of the biggest stars in sports. She is the clear cut number 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft and could possibly be bigger than Caitlin Clark when it's all said and done.

Great, great analysis! I'll tell you what, if Paige came out this year I would not be shocked if some team with the first pick in the Draft chose her instead of Caitlin Clark. Shocking? Yes, to most basketball 'fans' but people in the basketball business would not be. In no way do I want to disrespect Caitlin and I wish her great success wherever she winds up going. But when we talk about their games, some things are glaringly very different. In regards to personalities, Caitlin is admired and Paige is loved. Caitlin has no mid range game, Paige scores from everywhere. Defensively, Caitlin 'rests' quite a bit on defense, Paige is a relentless force on defense. Joe, here are a couple of things also worth noting, Paige has been playing out of position the entire season because of UCONN's short bench but rather than think that would affect her game negatively she has turned it into a positive. ANALOGY: The NY Football Giants in the NFL had, I believe, the greatest linebacker in football history, Lawrence Taylor. The team wanted to take full advantage of his skill set, particularly rushing the passer. So, they did something which changed football dramatically. Instead of playing the conventional 4-3 defense, they switched to a 3-4 defense and gave Lawrence 'free reign' to create havoc against the opposition. With Paige being 'out of position' there is no telling where she will be every time down the court and she has 'free reign' and is creating havoc against the opposition. Also, Paige's stat line does not include everything we need to know. Besides points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots (you mean there's more!!!!!!!) 🙂, we should include how many 'deflections' she creates on defense, how many times she's scrambling for loose balls on the floor and, with all of this said this last stat is incredibly ridiculous: NUMBER OF TURNOVERS. In most cases it is one or none! Joe, They are only playing 7 players and they've been up to it so far and what's been so astonishing, their defensive pressure never stops and somehow they have been able to accomplish that without getting in serious foul trouble. This isn't much room for error. Geno has done a great job this season with his limited cast (which includes 4 freshmen!!!) and, of course, it helps to have another coach on the court at the same time!

Wow some of the comments here 😬 Paige seems legit someone I’d hang out with. Genuine. I think Geno is chill too but I’m biased because I’ve been a Uconn fan since I knew how to dribble. I think South Carolina might have it this year. Like everyone else. Love Juju and Dawn. Whatever the outcome, this is good for the women’s game. Bill Burr. We’ve heard his viral “so why don’t women show up to games”. For real? You try working full time at minimum wage and raising kids babycakes. I don’t have kids but I’m an auntie and my sister’s would love to go to a game but they are exhausted after waking up (if they can sleep through the night) at 5am to make sure kids get to school. Then deal with every other issue, pick them up, drive them to practice, figure out dinner, homework, make sure no one is having a breakdown.. After that, not all but a majority of women want to kick up their heels and watch a game at home with friends at a bar. That’s why the women’s games are getting better ratings on TV. Well, that was my long ass comment for the week. Anyway - let’s go uconn ❤🙏🏾

Joe Pought for whom are you selling this narrative? Look at the stats and show them to Geno as well. Look at TV ratings of games, sports shows talking about others not Bueckers. Watch games, see the crowd, who are they rooting for. Who are the players being written about. I’m not saying she’s not good. She’s very very good. Is she at the next level? No. At that level there’s only room for one. Geno is selling a story because he didn’t have the foresight to get the player he should have. I do , however, wish Paige all the best and hope that next year she transcends into that elite level.

You’re wrong. her injury was to the same knee that had around 10 months in between. It’s the recovery that takes time that makes it seem like she’s been unhealthy forever. secondly, NIL follows you to the wnba and gets replaced by the name “endorsements,” you’re able to make more money as a professional with your salary and endorsements. you don’t lose money when you become a professional and make “less money”

Paige Buekkers doesn't get the kudos she truly deserves.. she's not anywhere near as polarizing as Caitlin or Angel... as talented as she is she flies under the radar...... she's as marketable as either.....and has an endearing quality about her....unfortunately has had horrible luck healthwise...... hopefully she stays in school..... then possibly take her fifth year....all that lost time has got her behind the pace..... Hailey (van Lith) needs to take advantage of her fifth year as well..... they'll both be top three whenever they do declare.....if I'm advising them......I have them to take the safer, more conservative route.......

Ummm you actually can’t rely on Paige. She’s been hurt and you’re saying a team is going to choose literal box office talent for someone who has potential? Love Paige she was my favorite going into her freshman year, but man she is just riddled with the injury bug. That factors in to draft stock. There’s no way anyone chooses her over Caitlyn. It’s just facts over feelings. Love Paige and I’m rooting for her. Also Caitlyn is doing all this with who as teammates? She’s the only five star recruit. Means she can carry a team. I don’t know about this analysis. Put Paige on Iowa. Can she do what Caitlyn did? I’m not so sure.

Dude, look at the numbers, Paige is an all-around better player after missing 1 and 1/2 seasons with injuries. She's playing out of position with only seven healthy players and 4 are true freshmen and we still made the elite 8. Do you honestly believe Clark could accomplish the same thing I don't think so.

I mean Clark plays no defense. Paige plays the best player on defense. Clark is an amazing iso dynamo and a better passer. Paige especially with injuries is much closer to a Durant now. Everything is in offense and fitting in. Clark is a Brunson. Both are great. But Clark has no off ball movement so the curry stuff is kind of silly. She needs ball in hand.

Caitlin Clark is not a great basketball player. She's a great shooter when she plays basketball. She has not led her team to even ONE National Championship. Not ONE!!! Paige is in a class by herself. As the Syracuse women's basketball coach said, "Paige is playing a chess game in her head when she plays!". Paige is otherworldly. I live in CT and I'm a UCONN fan. We love Diana and Sue and Maya. But, Paige is something else entirely. She can't be compared to CC. When CC goes to the WMBA she'll be playing with several former basketball players who understand something that Clark knows, but isn't. Clark is supported by four other players, but Paige plays with four other players who are great in the own right. UCONN basketball is a team sport on the women's and men's side. Being a UCONN basketball player is not like being a player on any other team. Here's the reason. Players come to UCONN to win National Championships. Period. That's on the men's side and the women's side. Emecka Okafor and Diana Taurasi once graced the cover of "Sports Illustrated Magazine" because in that year (2000?) they led their teams to National Championships. Don't be surprised if you see Tristan Newton and Paige Bueckers gracing the cover of "Sports Illustrated Magazine soon!" And, by the way, there's a 6th player on both UCONN basketball teams and that is the UCONN fan base including the UCONN students and thousands of CT residents who support our teams.

I respect your opinion but we don’t judge college players by national championships. They’ve always been judged by how they look on the court & Caitlin is a no doubt superstar. I do agree with everything you said about UCONN, they have an amazing organization over there.

@lindsay, you must not pay attention to what goes on in the NCAA world of basketball. Caitlin has surpassed so many records held by both men and women. I have nothing against Paige, she is exciting to watch. You may not think Caitlin has anyone to play with her, you couldn't be more wrong. You might want to see how well Iowa handled Colorado last night. Caitlin only scored 27 of Iowa's 91 points, scoring 3 of 9 from beyond the arc, but she had 10 assists, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. She has the weight of the world on her shoulders right now, everyone expecting to see her shoot out the lights from the logo every time. She is 22 and a student as well as an athlete. Even in Albany fans were lining up to get autographs after the game. She has been selling out arenas wherever Iowa plays. That started in 2022 and continues. When season tickets went on sale for this season at home, they were sold out in hours. Every arena we went to sold out as well. Paige has been unlucky with the knee injuries, and I hate that an athlete of her caliber had her career interrupted like that. While Sheryl Swoopes tried to lie about Caitlin's numbers of shots per game, her age, and saying she was in her 6th year, she takes an average of 19-20 shots per game, she is in her 4th year, is 22, and when she has an off night, her teammates pick up the slack. In her collegiate career so far, she has scored 3,859 points, has had 966 rebounds, and 1,120 assists. She has made 531-1408 3 point shots, and 802-934 free throws. Please tell me how she's "not a great basketball player". In every single post game interview or post-game presser, she speaks about her teammates stats and how they contributed when she wasn't scoring, she credits her coaches, the opponents and what they did well before she EVER speaks about her own accomplishments. She plays the game with passion, she loves the game, and she LOVES her teammates and coaches. Away from basketball she has her own foundation that raises money for kids, to help them with education, athletics, and nutrition. She gives her "free" time to the Johnson County Food Bank after they offered to pay her 5 figures. She refused to take any pay for it. She gives as many autographs after games as time allows, including opponents arenas. A few lucky young girls were given her autographed shoes after games. She wants her legacy to be "the Impact I Have on kids and the people in Iowa". Along with a number of the athletes at Iowa, she visits kids in the children's hospital at the U of Iowa. She is MORE than a great basketball player. I have respect for Paige and how well she has played after battling back from knee injuries and I hope she continues to play her way to the WNBA if that is where she wants to go.
