I was at the match in Doha last night (and even have my own fancam video on my channel you might want to check out hint, hint, nudge, nudge, wink, wink).... seriously though, when the draw came out, this was one game I just had to attend. Initially, I expected Vietnam to be heavy favorites to win this. However, as we got closer to game day, the tide started to shift more towards Indonesia. There were all Vietnam's injuries, Indonesia started to look stronger with some of their nationalized players and looked very good against Iraq, and when I saw the stadium, it was basically a sea of red and white so it was almost like an Indonesia home game... I think an upset was well on the cards... my commiserations to Vietnam fans though, unlucky tournament...

This match expose everything Vietnamese football is doing wrong: - amateur play style in V-League: Thanh Binh would never make such blatant foul should he play in a properly-run league or under a system when that kind of foul is punished. He could have gotten away with that in V-League or Vietnamese youth championships, but not in a continental tournament. - no striker (left, Dinh Bac is injured) AT ALL: wtf was Van Tung doing out there tbh? I can understand Tuan Hai, he's never supposed to be the ace striker, he's a winger. Van Tung replace Dinh Bac's place, and one would expect him to at least try to make his worth. Later, he always slowed down Vietnamese advance with his sloppy play. To make matter worse, Troussier bring in Van Toan, another winger. Just...WHAT? Speaking of Troussier, his days was long gone. Look, I'm all for his progressive initiative, but as a manager, he did not have much success lately. He could have been hired as a General Manager, instead we hired him as the manager and give him all he wants, like back in his Japan project. Why was Hung Dung out anyway? And he brought in... Le Pham Thanh Long. Should have brought out Tuan Anh when he gassed out. There are many more problem in his man management but I won't go into that further.
