One day at a time my friend. The body heals much too slowly for an active guy like you. I clipped a homeless person that ran out in front of me at night wearing all black trying to collect insurance. Totaled my Triumph, lacerated my spleen, broke ribs and suffered a mild TBI that took a year to begin to feel ok. There’s just very very sad days that go along with suffering and injury. Life is a gift and I’m glad you’re still here. If you need someone to talk to, happy to connect, and talk with you any time day or night. Just reply if you like and I’ll send you my #. God Bless. Rod

@@danreich4320 yes she was. After I clipped her, she ran off and left me in the ditch. She ran out in front of a car later on that night and caused another big wreck. I woke up in intensive care, and there were two cops standing there next to my bed. I said hey guys I wasn’t drinking! They said yes they knew that I was sober, So I said ok then why are you here? They said well we need to verify you’re going to live so we know what to do with the crazy lady….. ha! I said you guys can go, I’m not dying! They dropped by again the next day….such faith. 45 years of riding, and 1st time I’ve come off. It gets in your blood, and almost impossible to quit. I’m now riding a super Tenere 1200. I was riding full gear, and it saved my life. I may consider an air bag vest.

Better living through chemistry!! The first surgery on my shoulder, they controled the pain with a morphine bolus injecting into my IV. I could push the button and get a hit of morphine as long as it was a sufficient amount of time between pushing the button. Followed by narcotic pain medication. The second time they went into the shoulder to remove all the plates and screws and the little monster that grew on them, they offered me a nerve block in pre-op. The anesthesiologist was explaining he was going to stick a needle in my neck until he saw my hand jump. And I said yeah you got a electrode on my finger and you're going to stick the other side of the circuit into my neck and when you hit a nerve my hand will jump and you'll know you're in the right place. And he said you've been through this before and I said no I'm an engineer. And that was great cuz as soon as he squeezed the hypodermic, it was like my shoulder was gone. They left a catheter in my shoulder after the surgery connected to a little pump in a pouch that I wore, and it just kept injecting magic whatever. The problem was is that the catheter came out, and they weren't going to go back into surgery to place it on the nerve using ultrasound so I wound up having to take pain pills anyway. I will tell you that narcotics will constipate you like nothing you have ever experienced in your life. 😮 That's the old guy talking about poop again. 😅 I'll offer these words of advice, Do not grin and Bear it. If it hurts, push the button, call the nurse and raise hell. You do not get a prize for being stolic and dealing with the pain on your own. GET BETTER 👋 👽

You remind me of how close I was, and how much more thankful I should probably be. I got to leave with my leg, eventually a walker, then crutches, then a cane. I spent months with wound care, trying to save my leg. I succeeded!! Still have a good limp, a wicked scar, and still ride. You are sobering my friend, very sobering. I had some videos still up till a few months ago, when the you tube gods decided to take them down for "graphic content intended to shock " .. oh well. You're still in my prayers!!

Dude, it just happened. I’m sure your mind is working overtime, and I get that, it’s definitely normal. But Don’t push rehab. You need this time to rest for a little while so that the healing process can begin. That’s important. Youll have plenty of time for rehab. I was in the hospital for two and a half weeks, just for severing everything in my forearm. And I made them keep that bag full the whole time. Then I was instructed not do anything for a month, before we even talked about rehab. I hate drugs too, but when your in need your in need.

Hang tough big guy! Pain control is more difficult when your mind is inactive and the thoughts of your pain overwhelm you. This might sound weird but see if you can put yourself into a meditative state and drift away from the pain. Drifting right now myself. Broke my humerus, elbow, radius and ulma last Saturday and still in just a splint awaiting surgery. Trying to get your Dr (in Massachusetts) to Rx pain meds is close to impossible. Hang in there man. There are going to be days where this is going happen. A "Bad" day however progress is just around the corner. You just need to charge through it and as hard as it is, do what the doctors ask. When it comes to getting mobility back it's going to be rough and frustrating. 2 steps forward, 1 back. 3 steps forward 1 back, etc. Just keep charging forward. It will get easier but this going to be a long road. On the brighter side your face is healing up quite nicely. It's the little things. We're all pulling for you!

Sadly there will be good days and bad as you progress through your healing and rehabilitation. It isn’t easy and I wish we took take the pain and discomfort away. The good thoughts we can send aren’t much of a substitute, but hopefully help to at least keep your spirits up. Don’t suffer in silence. When the pump is empty, press the call button. The staff won’t mind at all. Rest assured though that we are here for you on this journey, urging you on and cheering your inner strength. You have that in abundance. But having it does not mean your physical self has to be as strong. Your body has been violently shaken up and undergone major physical damage. It takes time to heal. Use every crutch on offer to get through this stage and call for help when you need it. Stay strong big man. ❤

Been there buddy. Not with the leg amputation, but with another kind and the pain was horrific. It's hard when you're in it, but remember this will pass. The best thing I ever had for pain was Ketamine. There was no danger of addiction and when they shut it off it soon went away without hangover or withdrawal. If I ever have need in the future I will ask for Ketamine.

Health care professionals love it when you ask for your favorite pain meds. 😀 Charting: "Drug seeking behavior" 😲 I avoid all kinds of drugs, even OTC stuff like Tylenol. The few times I've had opiates, I didn't enjoy it. I don't like the dopey feeling but it was way better than pain. It was weird. I still had pain but I didn't care. It didn't really bother me. It was more annoying, as if I was trying to sleep and someone kept disturbing me. Time didn't seem to be going faster or slower from my perspective, but I couldn't be bothered by the passage of time because I didn't care about that either. I didn't enjoy spending an afternoon sitting with my head on my desk, drooling, but... better than pain. I can't imagine myself addicted to opiates but I can understand that there are people who are so emotionally or psychologically miserable that their pain is comparable to my physical pain, and opiates ease their pain. I truly feel sorry for anyone in that much mental or emotional anguish because my physical pain was very temporary and their pain is hopelessly unrelenting. That sounds like hell on earth.

So I happened upon this video probably because I was just watching reviews on the ‘24 Harley Low Rider ST. I’m 60 years old, have never ridden a motorcycle and have been contemplating it seriously for about a year. (For a first bike probably not the Low Rider ST by the way ). I plan to take the basic rider course in July so I can get my MC endorsement. They say it’s not a question if “if” you dump your bike but “when”. And I suppose it’s “how hard” too. Seeing this video scared the hell out of me but I can’t get rid of the desire to ride. All of you veteran riders certainly know what that means. What I will say to you Sir is I’m sorry to see you go through this but you sure seem courageous and determined and for that I commend you. I half expect you to talk me out of getting a bike and I know others in the family who will definitely try. But there’s that fever I can’t quite explain. Get well, keep your chin up and (in pure humor) ask the guys who will work on your prosthetic if they can make it a dual kickstand 😁

Hang tough, man. You should be through the worst of it. When you commented that the pain decreased a lot after surgery, I thought about making a comment explaining that the surgeons pack the site with a local anesthetic to reduce the post operative pain for a day or so and it's typical for the pain to return with a vengeance for a short period after that as the wounded tissue heals, but I didn't see how that knowledge would help in your recovery. Sometimes there isn't much postoperative pain and I was hoping you'd be one of the lucky ones. I'm sorry that wasn't the case, but the pain will subside soon. It won't seem like soon when minutes feel like days of agony, but in a day or two the pain should be much better and more of an annoyance in a week. I nearly tore off my right foot when I was 16. After the fall, I was lying on my back doing my power on self test (POST) while rebooting. I was worried that I broke my back (I did, T6, as well as torn muscles in my lower back and butt) so I was testing to see if I could wiggle my fingers (yes, so not a quadriplegic) but when testing if I could wiggle my toes, I could only wiggle my left toes. What kind of spinal injury impacts the right leg but not the left? I carefully lifted my right leg, not wanting to move much to avoid possible spinal damage. As soon as my right foot came into view, the foot hinged 180 degrees along a flap of skin on the inside of my ankle and I was looking at the sole of my shoe. That's not good. The surgeon worked four hours cleaning the dirt, decaying leaves and pine needles out of my ankle. Apparently, that muck acted as a coagulant, but it's very bad to have a cup of witch's brew bacteria inside a joint. The surgeon did his best to reattach all of the structural bits and even tried to put the severed nerve bundles close to each other. I was on powerful IV antibiotics for several weeks. They ran out of veins in my arms and hands. I have had no pain after a few months of recovery, and the right ankle has the same strength and range of motion as the left. I slowly regained feeling on the top of my foot over several years. Conclusion: The best time to do something very stupid is when you're 16 years old. I wish old farts had the recuperative powers of a 16 year old.

Well I was really hoping you where pulling a fast one on us. Sad to see this happen to anyone. But dang if your attitude about it is good. Id be lost. Get through it. Then buy one of those auto bikes. Like the AT. Or get a hand shifter. You are lucky you werent all alone in the middle of nowhere with no one around. I wiped out on Lolo Motorway one year. Straight over the handlebars....great video clip of it. Walked it off. But id I was really hurt. I would have been in trouble. Cause I decided tk wait until someone came driving by to help pick up my bike. I waited an hour. Then unloaded gear, picked up bike and reloaded gear then rode 2 hours before running into anyone.

Possibly bupivacaine. I have an intrathecal pain pump that has both fentanyl and bupivacaine in it which goes directly into my spinal cord..
