Total knee replacement surgery is painful.
Each patient has a different experience after knee replacement and everyone has a different threshold when it comes to pain.
In this video I will go over the approach to using multiple medications (as opposed to only narcotics) as a way to better control pain and limit the amount of narcotics needed after knee surgery.

Thanks Adam so much. I'm a 74 y/o sports loving NP who worked in recovery as a nurse in the days of PCA's. I am having the 1st knee done in September and second knee likely next September. I have been doing the pre-hab for years knowing it was coming (not 3x's/day), as well as biking, swimming, tennis, and good ole pickleball. My BMI is 20.3. Your talk was interesting, insightful, and encouraging. I found the too thin just as interesting as the not to thin. Really appreciate the time you have taken to do your books, and the video's, and likely talks at conferences. Thank you again!!

Thx for this really well detailed plan you use for many TKR patients. As I commented on another video, I had two weeks of absolutely awful experience with all the medications was given from day 1 of surgery. This resulted in two trips to ER and a colon swollen like a balloon. At week 5 now, and after being removed from first night morphine, then switched to oxycodeine opiods due to massive throwing up, and then finally removed after ER trip about a week later, my stomach is back to normal and on right track to focus on my actualy knee recovery! Still some severe achy pain at night but covering as much pain as possible with 2x Tylenol Xtra strength, some nights only 1 pill now, and prescribed anti inflammatory during the day. (Also ice, elevation, self massage, wave type music etc.) Not great sleep nights yet but improving slowly and I like the idea on the next leg, to go more for early Acetaminophen load like you've done and will bring your video etc to my surgeon when ready. One question though, was the anesthesia "general" in conjunction with the nerve block? I had an epidural and the nerve block. My first time so very scary to allow a needle and numbing in my back, but it gave me a day with a slower progression toward the inevitable pain and get some meds to control pain as much as possible first, and not have pain hit instantly after the surgery. Just wondering if that is something more standard in USA TKR now? Seems to be the norm with Toronto Canada surgeons now.

Thank you so much for this information, I am 2 months post tkr surgery and I have noticed the numbness area decreasing and was concerned that it might not all go away. One less thing to worry about. Thanks from Houston

Dr Rosen, Thank you for taking the time to educate and inform! Watching your videos, all your podcasts and reading your book on "The Knee Book" have prompted me to seek help. Now working with a physio to help with pre op exercises before the total knee replacement in 3 months time. I am feeling confident and optimistic that I will get better after the TKR (which I have postponed for 2 years). Thank you again for all the valuable information from London, UK

A very informative presentation. After my knee replacement last June, I was lucky as I did not have a whole lot of pain. At my visit to get my staples out my ortho doc asked if I needed a refill on my pain meds and I said no. I think he was quite surprised at my response. I took the Tylenol and Ibuprofen as directed, and got thru it very well. I know we are all not alike, but being proactive with the anti-inflammatory and Ibuprofen does work!! Thank you for sharing your expertise, it is most appreciated! Take care!

My tkr is in September and the thing I'm scared of the most is that narcotics and NSAIDS give me violent migraines, and I keep hearing thats what is needed for severe pain.

Thank you for this. How do you get a practice code to order from Corganics? I’d like to get away from the Meloxicam if I can still taking Tylenol at night. Traveling has been tougher than I expected
@dradamrosen
@dradamrosen Ай бұрын
You can ask you doctor to reach out to Corganics. If your doctor is interested they can contact them. Once you doctor completes the educational platform they can provide you with a code.
