Here's video number 3 in our Paint a Bird a Day challenge. Today we're going to enjoy the immediacy and intensity of gouache, straight from the tube and applied with a brush that's a bit on the large side so that we have less control and more freedom of expression. I find painting with gouache now and then to be very liberating, and what you learn will affect how you paint when you go back to your regular watercolors.

For this cute blue bird I'm using Arteza Gouache watercolor paint with a Da Vinci round brush, and I'm still working in my Viviva sketchbook.

What a big thing that is - your bird a day. I put my crazy birds on my status on WhatsApp and they are loved and brighten up my friends‘ days too. So much love your idea. Gouash! Did I spell that correctly? Is it similar to acrylics? It makes a lovely effect. I love it when we see the total picture up close to see the finished look. Thank you for another informational lesson (as always)

FYI….if you store your pens with the tip facing down the ink will flow better.

I would always recommend Kuretake Gansai Tambi for a beginner nowadays. Or the Paul Rubens basic set, either pans or tubes.

Love your blue bird but I wanted you to stop after you had it basically done. I also liked the flowers in black and white. I will try this on my own and see how much self discipline I can try but not overdo. I’m not known for letting things be - I’m loving this series, thank you.
