Today's #paintabirdaday bird is so easy! It's basically two semi-circles, a few loops, half a dozen straight lines and some coloring-in. Then we fix a cup of coffee and a snack while he's drying, pick him up along with a gold pen and a fineliner, and take him to a comfy chair to be embellished!
So many people are messaging us and telling us that joining in the Paint a Bird a Day challenge has helped them to finally pick up a brush for the first time, or to enjoy their art again after a long time of trying so hard that it wasn't fun anymore.

I think this is my favourite bird. I don’t have many crows here at the moment, but I’ve had a family of kookaburras take over the gum tree in my front yard

I adore this bird! I must say that I can totally relate when you say you are better at copying something than imagining subjects. I would much rather alter a version of something than start from my own imagination, for myself, it’s a confidence thing. Finding your videos very inspiring and liberating because you have a wonderful down to earth spirit!💕🇨🇦

One thing I have learned from my favorite artists…an art project doesn’t have to be done in one sitting! How liberating❣️ Love the bird…zen tangle it within the form 😃 I have a book called, “ One Zentangle A Day” a six week course for Relaxation, inspiration and fun…of course I don’t do them everyday. I create them when I want to in a sketch book…great for learning dimension and shading…🙏🏽🙋🏻‍♀️👍🏽Mia

@@DianeAntoneStudio It helped me to see the final drawing of the bird before I drew it. On the owl last week, I followed the steps, but did much better the 2nd time, as well. I should just skip the first try. LOL.

I love using the gold pen!!! I love my pens but I never thought of using metallics for tangling!

Hi Diane! Love this beautiful bird! And you totally have been doing zentangle on your birds! I love doing that too but I tend to do that with tangling instead of all zentangle proper. I guess I do both. I go through spells of wanting to tangle then WC then neurographic some times all of those on one pic! Have a good weekend and thanks for your chat and fabulous birdie pic! What a wonderful bird! I thought you were already influenced by Zentangle because of the way you embellish your paintings. “You can accomplish anything one step at a time” has been a life changing concept for me, applicable to many areas of life!

I very much love a bird a day!! I realize that after the month is over they will then become something I can access anytime. For the challenge this month (if I understood it correctly 😁) it is really wonderful to be able to have ones you do and share. I think it is so wonderful there so many other videos to watch and follow if we need a change of pace ❤️❤️❤️

This has been so peaceful to watch. So soothing. Thank you. Love the sound of animals. Cat on my lap, lots of birds fly by window. If you could add some sheep sounds, that would be so cool. I’m in the flyaway of Canadian geese. Would that work for this? Mouth a little open, stretched neck, flying? I can see their eyes when they fly by. (9th floor). Love them. Robins = spring, geese = winter ❄️ I’m in the north US. These birds are going to be so peaceful to paint. Thank you again.

Wow! Love, LOVE all your birds-a-day...but I must say I SO enjoyed your fish I said to myself right away, "Paint a *fish* a day!!". Then I chuckled when you mentioned it but for sad face when you said it woukd be too much with daily birds....I completely get that but I just cannot let the fish go...maybe take a wee bird break each week with *Fishy Fridays* ??? We could have our Birds and Fishies too...or not...😁💜

Thank you, Diane, love it. I am an avid bird watcher and bird lover. Love that you introduced me to this marvelous detailed bird. He's definitely a go for me and I will try my hand at something similar. I've Zentangled many many things and often birds, and realized quickly that I've been "doodling" that way for many years any time there was paper nearby (ie: when on the phone, when teachers talked, etc.) Haha, yet never heard my doodles called zentangling. I really loved what you did with your bird, though I like your watercolors (when they're not like gouache) best. 1000 crows, yikes. And I complain about my sparrows! I like sparrows, just not when they are too aggressive to my other birds. Do you have a birdfeeder? If so, do they demolish all of it? Love all of your videos💜💙💚. XOXOJANE

Hi Jane, sorry I didn't reply to your lovely comment last month when you wrote it. I have been very busy lately. So glad you are enjoying the little birds and hope you are still enjoying the videos, a mixture of watercolor and more illustration. We do have birdfeeders, but the crows seemed to be passing through, and most of them have gone. And no, the sparrows and other little birds held out against the crows and we very rarely seem to get any visits to the tables from them, thank goodness. Have fun with the videos! That gold pen is a Pentel. Any gel pen would work. Although, the only decent white gel pens are Signo Uniball and Jellyroll. These birds are gorgeous.

First, I Love your videos! I would like to raise your awareness about Zentangle. The Zentangle (TM) Method was founded by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts. The word Zentangle is an adjective, which means it needs another word such as Zentangle Inspired Art, Zentangle Method, etc. It is a common misconception. When we draw a pattern it is called “tangling.” Tangles are patterns. When people call it Zentangle, the founders of the Zentangle Method run the risk of losing their trademark. It is similar to Kleenex. Once it became a common word for tissues, Kimberly-Clark lost their trademark for Kleenex. There are other companies that have lost their trademarks. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to let others know to call it tangling. I love seeing the tangles in your work and hope you will add them to more of your videos.
