A tip for rice: if your rice gets too wet, throw it in a pot of phones to dry it right up! 😂

If you enjoy dying paper, try black avocado skins! Beautiful purple colour! And if you put a patterned rubber mat on it (like doilies), it will dry lighter in the spots the rubber touched the paper. You can create beautiful papers that way

This was fun to watch, Mira! One of my pandemic projects was a "quick" D&D map that turned into a year-long project. It admittedly is an art project foremost, but it eventually lend to a couple of one shots and a campaign (so far)!

We're totally going to do our own map now! There's lots of spilled coffee everywhere in our workspace so all of our documents already look like antique parchment with muffin crumbs for islands. We think this could be a great rainy day project for anybody, and maybe even the basis for an educational activity! (BTW, one of our team thinks they might just recognize the real life inspiration for that glass house in Victorian Gardens and now they think they're cooler than the rest of us. Don't indulge them.)

My dnd character is an Eladrin elf warlock whose patron is an Archfey. She was intended to be a ditsy fairy princess but because her party members are a zombie and cleric batman, she’s become Kermit the frog to keep them in check.

I play D&D but mostly as a DM. I’m making a rice map for an island in the middle of a lake. There are great secrets to be revealed within a cave on said lake-island. I found the experience of making a lap like this that you’ve shared to have some useful tips. Thank you for posting! May all your rolls be 20!

This is like, perfect to do at school or work when you're trying to kill time. You can use paperclips, staples, tacks... really anything and just trace around it with a pen. Cute idea and wish I did this when I was in school.

I play as a dragon born Rogue and a half elf Rogue. We love getting together with friends every week to play. 😂 I have a sword that is a water elemental. Hear me out, endless water to drink 😂 we have a dark elf who hates all races, who loves shoots, and is wacky. We have a dragon born who is a derp. He is wearing a party cone hat, with a pet rock under it, in a black suite. His reasoning is business and party opportunities. 😂 there is a high elf who is the smart leader. The three love to pick on each other. I'm just trying to get stuff done 😅 you can imagine how the adventures are going.

I don't play DnD but I am creating a bit of a fantasy universe in one of my sketchbooks using my kid and my nephew as my muses. Also I wanted to point out that I think you're supposed to add something to the coffee to make it neutral because the acid will eat away at the paper over time.

Hi! My friends just finished a 1.5 year campaign and I played a human sorcerer (inspired by Dena’ina Athabaskan culture because diversity in D&D rocks) named Memento Mori. They’re a pirate captain who turns into a skeleton at night because of a botched resurrection, and they joined a rebel crew to take down two evil queens and a whole oppressive magic system. I love D&D! Can’t wait to hear your guys’ characters!

Now name the map. A lot of fantasy writers use different techniques to create maps. I do a lot of Islands and those Islands are with their borders and with their names inside of it.

This is so cool! I’ve wanted to do a map like this for a while.

My mains are Eris; the cleric fighter; my first female character. Next is Briask; the awakened Ragdoll cat rogue. Next is Tascus, the rogue fighter tabaxi. Finally, there is Bael, the gunslinger fighter tabaxi. As a dungeon master; I have created hundreds of NPCs and monsters for my on-going campaign and whew; what an experience.

I'd love to see more fantasy art!

I am a DM/GM. I’ve made several worlds and own many TTRPGs and am working on my own TTRPG right now! I’m a forever GM so have not gotten to actually be a player for over a decade. The rice method works well. I used it for a world a couple of years ago. I think doing it in pencil and adjusting it then inking is my preference. Maybe make an artwork of your DnD character. Also excellent thumbnail for this video.

I also made a fantasy map a few months ago. I did it when the InkTober52 prompt was mighty and I did a simpler map that represented different parts of creativity. I think I wanna try making another fantasy map now

My husband and I paly D&D every other weekend with our friend group, and have been meeting up for about three years now. My character's name is Tip and she is classed as a fighter....and the unofficial baby sitter of the group. Nine times out of ten she is running after our goose kinku and our golden grung. Poor thing has become a very stressed out tank

My son did this exact art project for his homeschool curriculum. We use the good in the beautiful homeschool and this is one of their projects.

I play 2 characters, as one campaign has been on hold for a bit. Longest running character is my forest druid half-elf call Merrial; and my current character is a halfling barbarian named Andry. Keep up the amazing work, I might have to try this. 😉

What a great technique to get random looking maps

I LOVE THIS!!!!! As a kid we aged paper with coffee like this to make “old letters” but I’ve never heard of a rice map! I need to do it! How fun and such a mystery what the outcome will be! It came out amazing.

Mira, did you just apologise to the rice??!? 😂😂 This is such a cool idea to get the random edges to the map. I really struggle to make stuff look random. Oooh! This would be really cool to make a pirate treasure map for the kiddos when they get bigger, for like easter egg/scavenger hunts. You could crumple it up and singe the edges to make it look old.

I do a lot of watercolor, journaling and designing tattoos. I work in a quilt shop so I'm an adivid quilter and fabric hoarder. I. So happy to be apart of your art family, you seem like such a kindred spirit. Back to answering the question of the day... I played a cleric dwarf named Freona she was incredible. She had fire red hair, thick round glasses that made her green eyes look huge, and covered in freckles. By the end of our campaign she was skilled in axe throwing but I also obtained a hammer like Thors that would come back when summoned. Ugh she was the best. She was also obsessed with my husband's character Butterlegs haha. Thank you for helping me remember that wonderful time in my life! It wasn't that long ago I'm only 26 but still! And thank you for spreading positivity in this world. You're an inspiration and I can't wait to see what you create next! Sorry this was long! I meant every word ❤

I kind of play D&D. I say "kind of", because none of my campaigns have worked so far. I have a bunch of characters, but my favorite is Othilea Bhe-Djean, my level 1 Half-Elf Cleric I played in a homebrew game I DMed for my friends. (they had no healer and were very chaotic. I wanted the campaign to last, so I made her). She is a very shy person, and I simply loved her interactions with one of the party's bards (there were 2). Sadly, one of the party members moved away (and then I broke up with the player of the afformentioned bard), so the campaign died...

This reminds me of the one time I thought making rainbow 🌈 rice for my now older girls would be a great idea. That rice haunted me for weeks 😅. Looks really cool though! Man, people are so creative 😂

It is reverse colouring but with rice. Same kind of concept though and I bet you could create maps with those books too. If you say D&D three times in a row, you will be sucked into to an art collab with Jazza, who clearly is a HUGE fan. 😂

Another idea is to rip up some tissue paper in bigger pieces to add some variety and make it less "islandy"

If you want to give it more of an antique look, just tear the edges a bit, make it as rigid as possible, don’t keep it smooth. Thank me later 😂
