i am always so in awe of how you build up your skin tones, i always start my bases too dark to get anywhere close to this level of detail cause i am way too impatient while painting. this is so beautiful.

Trying to control the watercolor makes total sense to me. Most people see watercolor as a loose and free flowing medium but I have too much of a fear of losing control of my art and messing up to let it get that way. So I often try to tame it like you said. It really does seem to go the opposite of what watercolor is made for but its satisfying when you can get the smooth washes you want.

I totally understand the need to control watercolor 😂 I hope to one day be comfortable combining elements of letting it be free and expressive but also tame it where I want to apply focus. It's such a wonderfully diverse medium. This piece is incredible. I fully understand the awkwardness of reference shots 😅 but this was absolutely worth it. Can't wait to see this Payne's Grey and Opera Rose combination!

Hey Bri! Sorry for the late reply! I haven’t been comfortable with adding loose and controlled elements until really recently, oddly painting gestural florals really helped, I have sheets of them that I did just for fun and it taught me so much 🖤

wow that look stunning!! I do get your point because its something I also want to achieve thought I just start using watercolors and getting all good material I like the smooth look in watercolor that smiler to digital art

This painting is so beautiful! Thanks for the instant motivation-boost. I'm now gonna get my watercolors out and start painting too. By the way, I have the same dilemma as you have with art from graphic novels. As I am currently working on my comic, I love the expressions and the movement I can get with this style, but when I come back to a watercolor painting I love the mood and softness I can get with it.

wait so you're telling me all this time you don't just wet the brush and brush it over those little things to get the color on the brush, you make a whole puddle of color in a bowl? how do you do that?
