This is a painting I finished in 2022. It is painted with oil on canvas and meansures 1,80 x 2,20 m (71 x 87 in).
It is painted in layers. On skin parts there are mostly 2 layers of underpainting with white, followed by 2 layers of glazings with colour.
I let the layers dry completely before continue painting on it.

Your heart for the "Old Masters" is true. You may want to check out European Artists Heritage for the 17th c. understanding & employment of chiaroscuro ~

I've seen the original in Mauritshuis and the ones in Amsterdam - Perhaps it's the easiest one to copy but it is not the nicest.

I've always worked dark to light for some reason but watching you work the other way looks like it makes sense, I will have to try it. Do you use a projector to transfer onto the canvas when you copy masters? Nice work BTW.

Yes. I do with organic linseed or walnut oil.

I think you're doing the white modeling well, but the rest is done too quickly. In my opinion, there is a lack of love for dealing with the individual areas. Pity

It's fantastic. But I like the white part. Once you put the colors is getting flat.

Do you also take commissions? I’ve tried painting a portrait a couple of times, but I’m not getting anywhere near where I want it to be. And everyone else paints too modern for my taste, so I thought I might ask you 😅
