I bought those colors but went with the true primary colors, yellow magenta and turquoise. I've mixed them wet in the pallette and created 12 colors from those three tubes, let them dry and now I don't have to mix new colors every time but just use my premixed colors. It's so much fun and I could create almost all colors I wanted even a true red and blue and every colour of green, orange, purple even an indigo.. you get it, lol (except black, I only got a deep deep grey but not a true black)

I love that you did not edit out when things don't go as planned, like using too much paint or when there is bleeding. I tend to scrap my works when this happens, aiming for perfection. You showed me that if you stick with it, you can end up with a great result even if the process did not go as planned. Thank you!

As always, thank you for taking the time to make this. Watching Ooops! moments are so useful to those of us still learning. Not to scrap a picture but to rescue it is a good lesson to learn.

Thank you for correcting your mistakes in front of us so we learn, there is a lot of perfectionists out there that will not show their mess ups and I believe we need to see them and learn how to correct them. Thank you for taking the time out to teach us and have a nice day 🙂

I saw a video (not sure whose) that said if you have a plastic palate, gently use a toothbrush with toothpaste that contains baking soda to rub around the palette then wash well. It should stop the beading.

Hi I want to pass on to you and your followers a tip concerning using new pallets and having that beading up problem. If you take Arm & Hammer toothpaste with peroxide in the toothpaste and a toothbrush and clean the whole pallet plastic and metal both using the toothpaste it will prevent the beading from happening. It’s awesome and really works!!

Hi...I started my watercolor journey with your videos about a year back and I am grateful for that... because it gave me the confidence to venture out to other themes and mediums too...I remember, in your earlier videos, you used to say that our failures may be because of the paper and not ourselves. However I always used to get the water pooling on the paper despite the quality ...and however little water I tried to pick up, it was always more. and I didn't like to lose all the paint that I mixed in pooling/drying it off on the paper towel today too I learnt a new lesson, that since plastic resists water, much of it stays on the brush rather than be laid out on the palette... thank you

Hello Emma! I just love your channel; I think I'm addicted! I've ordered one of your workbooks, even though most of the content can be found on your channel. I wanted to "pay" you for all the videos! p.s. My husband commented on one of my paintings, and thought it was 'professional'! So, that was my go-ahead to order some professional paints of your four colors in the video (and maybe more!). I'm having so much fun. Believe me, 'fun' is hard to get in our often 'troubled' world.

Nice lesson. 🙂 Rubbing toothpaste on plastic or metal palettes makes them just “rough” enough to stop the water beading. I rub it in with my fingers and then rinse really well before using. I also use Bee paper because it’s inexpensive. I’ve recently become a fan of Indigo and Kilimanjaro papers, though. I buy whole sheets online (Jerry’s Artarama, Blick’s, Cheap Joe’s) and cut them down. It’s very economical and the papers are awesome.

Cool good job 👍!! I hate those pallets though. The paint does suck up into your brush to much with those pallets. I use a smaller brush and it does help a little. I was surprised about how many different colors you can mix with a limited pallet. When I first started with watercolors I thought I had to go out and buy all the different colors. Then I quickly learned that's not true. I could mix yellow blue and red and get plenty of colors. It does help to have a painsgray also. That way you can darken up a red or a green. You can use purple but I prefer to use painsgray. Plus it always good to have a neutral in your pallet. I wanted to ask you if you have ever painted a horse. I'm trying to accomplish painting a horse right now and I can't keep my paper from drying on me so I can the highlights and shadows done on my horse. I use bee paper also to practice on. Can you do a video on painting a full body horse? Please? I would appreciate it 😊. It would help me ammensely. Thank you so much for sharing. 😎FL.

I love that you’re showing how to use a limited palette. So many painters want to buy ALL the colors (even black), when it’s pretty easy to create custom colors. I’ve noticed that you paint with a lot of water. I agree that Arches soaks up the water better. But one of the things I hated when I first started watercolor was how the water would dry so unevenly with hard lines around places where there was more color/pigment. It changed my life when I learned it’s from having too much water in an area. Water pushes the pigment out toward the edges and as it dries you get the dark outlines. It takes more time, but I get better results when I use less water/pigment and use layers to build up color. Just my two cents! Haha! 😂

Hi Emma enjoying watching your demo. paintings. So nice to see. Once question I have a small block of Strathmore watercolor paper and I would like to know if this paper (it's 140 lb. paper weight). Is this similar to the Bee paper that you used here? Would it work for little demos such as yours? Now the little guy is saying goodbye to us on the channel. So cute. You are a good teacher, teach in down to earth ways I can understand. Thank you.

Thank you, love your work.

As a real newbie to watercolors, is it necessary right off to purchase the best paper? I throw so much away at this point, that I hate the idea of throwing expensive paper out. I’m using a cold pressed 140 lb paper. What do you think? I love your videos and they have truly inspired me.
@EmmaLefebvre
@EmmaLefebvre 4 жыл бұрын
Joetta Smith not necessary. I’d say at first get the strokes down. But when you start to get a bit frustrated because it may seem the quality of your work isn’t at its best, it will probably be because of your paper. When you feel more comfortable, then upgrade. I used cheap canson paper for about a year. Do what works best for you!

Joetta, if there's an art supply shop in your area, ask if they have open stock of Arches or Bee. The local shop where I buy supplies has packs of Arches ($$$!), but also sells it by the sheet which is more affordable. You could practice on something else and then use some of the Arches when you're ready.

Shawnalee Whitney that’s a great idea! So far, I’ve only purchased from Michael’s. I will definitely check with an art supply store about single sheets. I have no artistic talent. This is all so new to me. I was drawn to watercolor painting for some reason. It has such a dreamy quality to it. I do get frustrated sometimes, but I absolutely love it; mess ups and all!
