Our Pak 40 is the only one that still fires live projectiles, not blanks. It was originally captured on the Western Front in 1944 and returned to the USA.

My grandfather was a engineer and had to destroy a Churchill with one of these he had to wear those old type of bottle lids to protect his ears

I remember my grandfather always stuffed curled up news papers in his ears when he was cutting wood with a loud machine. I once asked him why newspapers and he replied that if it saved his father's (Waffen-SS) ears in the war, then why shouldn't it work when cutting wood

I read a TM 'Training manual" While in the Army during First Gulf War. That manual was a reprint in english of the German Army in the desert in WWII. One of the tips was about preparing the ground around AT guns. Whenever possible use old oil or water if possible on the blast area around the AT Gun. Also mentioned Tarps with natural camo on top of them.

@@fatinfadillah4265 To keep dust from kicking up when the shot's fired. This allows you to re-sight and fire again quickly without having to wait for dust to settle down (because, you know, they obscure sight).

The Blitz would have used smaller predecessors like the Pak 36. The Pak 38 & 40 wouldn’t have been mainstream until like mid war. The final iteration being the giant Pak 43 in 88mm. The year Pak40 would have you believe it came out in 1940, but that’s when it was designed and tested. It really didn’t hit the frontlines until 1942 onwards.

Just amazing and beautiful gun + it's pretty neat to build models out of this, even when I can go to the Parola Armour Museum to see the real thing and get correct measurements and information from the guides. There are also PaK 35 guns (German and Soviet versions).

Just imagine German soldiers cannot walk away laughing or shell shocked, but stick their eyes to their targets, and relocate their gun every couple of shots to avoid enemy counter attack...

@@TheMysteryMushroom Agree. Wrong words used here. Dazed maybe the right word. Decades ago my platoon was the 106mm recroilless anti tank rifle on an armor vehicle. The firing noise is similar.

Are the powder charges down-loaded compared to the original German spec for the 75×714mm cartridge? It seems like it doesn't recoil the full length of the rails.

Yeah 75mm is no longer in production. That is why they don’t have the manual ejection after the round was fired, to not damage the casing.

Why are the fat guys all standing at the side with their feet behind the wheel? You have to sit on the weapon´s leg or crouch behind it, avoiding the recoil... Use a belt for firing... A little help: Imaging bullets flying around. That´s why there are 2 shields at this gun... Finally a little hint: There was another caliber AT gun, called "Scheunentor" in German... The 12,8-cm-PaK 44... That was not such a toy... Check it out guys;-) You needed titan balls firing this one;-)

What the hell does "Fire in the hole!" mean? It sounds stupid as hell. There's no fire, there's no hole nor are you firing into a hole. Just yell "Fire!" Sounds waaaaay less ignorant.

If you were to just yell “fire” you’d probably create a bunch of confusion at a range. Nobody would know whether to brace for the concussion or look for the closest fire extinguisher, whereas “fire in the hole” predicts the upcoming events pretty well.

It was originally used in mines it means there is an explosion in a confined space about to happen and it’s just to let people know to brace for an explosion really

If you have the chance to firing this piece of history.... do it right. Please. Sit on the chair and first of all fixed the PAK right to the ground and clean the ground in front.
