Just listened to the full review, thanks Andy and Matt for such a ripper review. Ouch no Mpeg4 recording to the camera and the fact you can't get into all menus when in record is not great at all. However there's seems so much upside. I'm hoping to get my hands one one of these cams soon. Jury still out on the performance of auto focus. I was filming Aussie Rules at a venue with like not alot of lux and the 705 just kept focus. Hopefully if I get my hands on a demo I can compare that function to the 705 side by side. Thanks again

I think the LCD is perfectly usable, I film with just the LCD screen and the viewfinder some of the time although most tines I also have a 5” SmallHD Focus or a 7” Video Assist, which I like to work from when on a tripod. The DVX200 had a slightly bigger screen but I have never considered the LCD to be too small, it’s clear, room for info around the edges and you can toggle the info display off. I have worked with plenty of cameras with smaller displays or reflective, dark displays that have just been unusable outdoors, JVCs springs to mind.

Personally, the CX350, I prefer Panasonic to Canon but a few reasons would include the price, the 605 costs much more, the Zoom, just 13x on the Canon. As always it would depend on your needs, if autofocus is essential to you then the Canon may prove to be a better option for example.

One of the things I just learned about this camera is that it requires a separate USB wifi dongle in order to connect wirelessly. The Panasonic wireless single is REDICULOUSLY expensive. Can you do a video on compatible 3rd party wifi dongles that work with this camera? This seems like a serious setback to an otherwise very exciting networking capability of this camera.

Hello! Thank you for making this video. It has been very helpful for me. I have a question that maybe you can help me with. I have the same camera (CX-350). Do you have any experience bringing in Line level audio to the camera? I have a fashion show that I need to shoot in a couple weeks... but I can't record the actual audio that is played at the show as KZfaq will flag it as copyrighted. So I have made my own copyright free soundtrack for the show that I wish to bring into the camera when I start recording the show. So I purchased an XLR cable that has a 3.5" stereo jack on the other end that goes into my MP3 player. The XLR end is plugged into the camera's Input 2 set to line level. The problem is... When I play the audio... its sounds incredibly hollow with a slight echo... and the quality is just horrible. Not distorted like if MIC level was accidentally selected... but nonetheless horrible. Almost like there is some sort of line mismatch or something is out of phase. Almost like the stereo is out of whack and parts of the instrumentation are missing. So I guess my overall question is... do you know the best way to bring audio from a Line level/mp3 player into the camera so the audio quality sounds full and vibrant as it should? Any help or guidance would be so appreciated! Thank you so much! :)
@apntv
@apntv 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I use line level input very often, in fact I have a conference job today where line level is being fed from a sound desk over XLR into input 2 and split across Ch1 and Ch2, so the concept is good. Is the 3.5mm output from your MP3 player line level or headphone level? It does sound like the MP3 output may be the issue but a process of elimination would be good by taking the MP3 output into another line level input device to see if it sounded the same and taking another line level output into the camera to check that it works ok. I can’t think if any camera settings that would affect this, you can add a low cut filter and limiter on the input but neither should cause the effect you describe. I hope that helps.

@@apntv THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to respond and give me such a detailed answer. Based on your advice, I went out today and picked up a splitter cable that has a 3.5" jack end that goes into my mp3 player... with the other end of the cable being split into a Y... with 2 XLR ends that go into the audio 1 and audio 2 inputs on my camera. (one side is marked TIP... and the other is marked RING). Low and behold... the problem is solved and the audio sounds great coming into my camera. I cannot begin to thank you enough for your help!!!! I really really appreciate it man!!!!!! You saved my life!

Hi Andy, thank you so much for a great presentation. I would like to ask you which cam recorder would you choose if you had to choose between the following two: Compare Panasonic AG-CX350 vs Panasonic AG-DVX200
@apntv
@apntv 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Danny, easy answer to that as I used to own a DVX 200, that should say it all. Don’t get me wrong the DVX200, like most modern cameras, is nice enough, gives good pictures and has some nice features however it is much heavier to carry around, it doesn’t have the zoom range of the CX 350 and none of the newer features such as streaming that come with a more up-to-date cameras. A common misconception that I hear, and fell for myself, is that the DVX must be better in low light due to the bigger sensor but in reality the CX 350 has a newer sensor that is better in low light and despite having a micro 4/3 inch sensor, which of course is 4 x 3 aspect ratio, the DVX only uses the 1 inch portion for 16 x 9 footage and a 1 inch sensor is optimal for 4K. Overall the DVX can be quite sluggish to use as the processor seems underpowered for the tasks and some options are not available depending on your chosen set up. The CX by comparison has a newer processor and most functions are fast to use. I find the CX a joy to use and all around a great camera, of course like all cameras some things are not perfect, Panasonic have never been known for great auto focus for example although even that has got far better since the introduction of face detect AF. For me the weakest point is the servo controlled lens but I have got used to using it and it’s fine. I hope that helps, Andy

Whats missing? definitely a bonded sim card insertion,, you say 4K streaming, im lucky to get more than 3 to 4 mbps upload where i am, so i have to bond networks, either carrying a Rasp Pi with 3 connections or a small laptop and bond that then hotspot it.. i struggle with settings between 1.5 - 3mbps..
@apntv
@apntv 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s tough for a stream, we use LiveU or Vidiu Go for bonded streams but I have on occasion streamed straight from camera but I say only over Ethernet, once at 1Mbps, which wasn’t so great. I guess as always there’s only so much you can put in a camera before you add to the cost price with features that many other users don’t need, so it’s always going to be a big balancing act for Panasonic and things like bonded encoders can just be added on externally I suppose.

I have a question for you. With the NDI activated, can this camera recieve a program feed back from the control unit, so you can preview an NDI transmitted program feed? (This would be awesome so the camera guys can preview the program or multi-view feeds?) (Apologies if you mentioned this in your video, I haven't re-watched it from a couple months ago)
@apntv
@apntv 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t enabled NDI on any of mine as yet but I don’t think it is possible as it would need a decoder as well as an encoder, I’ll see if I can find out. For me it would make more sense to buy a stand alone NDI encoder that I can use on any camera or video source for a little more than the activation licence.
@crooker2
@crooker2 2 жыл бұрын
@@apntv Ok. It would make more sense (realistically) if the camera supported NDI to provide full duplex capability. But I understand the economics of doing so. I guess I was just curious as to whether or not it could. It already (theoretically) has an encoder to send video out via NDI, I wouldn't think a decoder for video coming back would be too much of a stretch. But then again, I don't know if Panasonic had 'broadcast' in mind when creating this camera. And, of course, for the broadcaster, having a camera with program preview would be a VERY handy feature (and IS in higher end cameras) preventing the need for additional hardware and another Network cable to decode PGM out. I can see what you mean about buying a standalone NDI encoder, but as I'm in the market (or will be soon hopefully) to upgrade my cameras, it would make sense to upgrade them with NDI in mind... rather than having to spend more money on encoding/decoding boxes. I'm trying to maximize dollar, and buy a camera that will fit the bulk of my use cases (wired via SDI, standalone streaming, and networked over NDI or IP). I also looked into the Black Magic Studio 4K (which doesn't have NDI) but the network conversion box is still an $800+ cost add if I wanted to run them over the network rather than SDI. I really think NDI is the future of broadcast video distribution, and I want to be as future ready as possible (within my mid-level budget). Thank you for your FAST response and high quality information videos. I wish you were in Canada so I could buy you a pint and pick your brain. hahah.

@@crooker2 at the moment I’m using SRT to send a camera feed back to a gallery, using vMix, even though it is on the same network. More of a proof of concept. Obviously the latency is higher on SRT but for our use case that is fine anyway. I do keep considering enabling NDI-HX and as you say, avoid the need for additional decoders, again it all depends on your use case I guess. Where about in Canada are you, lovely country, one day I’ll get back there. :-)

@@crooker2 as you see in the video the camera can now sent SRT over the Ethernet port, I just send that directly into vMix, much like NDI. NDI would typically have much lower latency as SRT uses latency to ensure quality. SRT is meant to send video across the Internet but that doesn’t mean you can’t use it locally. Just got our grant for new equipment and I'm seriously considering 3 new CX-350s for my multi camera setup. Has Panasonic taken advantage of any of the new NDI-5 protocols like NDI Bridge etc... Is there an alternative to the criminally overpriced Panasonic wifi dongle (AJ-WM50)?
@apntv

My understanding of NDI is that it’s the tool set that gives you the additional options, the NDIi-HX in camera probably stays much the same although they may update it on a future firmware release if it needs it. The bridge is still not available at least last time I looked, we have a project that we would like to try it on when we can. In terms of the overpriced dongle, I am not aware of an alternative at the moment. I had one for my DVX200 but it was too big to fit in the 350. Once purchased, the WM50 just hides in it’s slot and you forget it is there but I agree the price is ridiculous, at the moment I only have one of them.

Thanks for the video guys ! Is there a difference between SRT and NDI HX ?
@apntv
@apntv 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, SRT is a protocol for sending high quality footage over the Internet, it uses latency to ensure that it can maintain the quality during occasional network congestion. NDI and NDI HX were originally designed to run on local networks but with the introduction of NDI5 these can also now work over the Internet too. NDI-HX is a lower quality, compressed form of NDI, it was designed to allow cameras to send reasonable quality signals over a network where bandwidth is limited. Many camera manufacturers have employed this protocol. SRT and NDI now offer fairly similar functionality but they work slightly differently so it will depend what fits your workflow best.

@@apntv I recently bought 3 Panasonic ag-cx350 which I use with vmix to cover live shows with giant screens. Will it have less latency with the NDI HX license than with SRT protocol?
@apntv
@apntv 2 жыл бұрын
@@gstorm1491 yes It should be slightly less, NDI-HX introduces more latency than full NDI as it has to compress and decompress however while vMix is a fantastic product, being software based it will introduce more latency and for IMAG live screens this can be problematic as the delay is often noticeable. vMix don’t recommend their software for this use. The only way to keep the latency down is using a hardware solution such as the ATEM switcher. We use both, often together but for live screens we go straight from the ATEM and use vMix downstream for captions etc. on a final livestream output where the latency won’t show. We recently did a musical event across three locations with musicians singing and playing together in real time which really highlighted some of these issues and helped us work out solutions for both live projection and subsequent stream outputs. It is also worth noting that the cameras themselves introduce latency of a number of frames by the time the signal comes out of the SDI or HDMI ports so the effects become cumulative very quickly.

@@apntv I imagine that we do not hope for a firmware update from Panasonic for full NDI for the ag-cx350?

@@radiumstudiodotcom I doubt it, I think it would likely require a hardware change for full NDI.

Can someone tell me if I can use this as a webcam to live stream as well as green screen?

Certainly, we use them on green screen all the time. You can live stream straight to KZfaq, Facebook etc. From the camera or connect it as a webcam. Have a look at my Networking and Streaming video. kzfaq.info/sun/PLNLfaye-Suq0gKZCbSL26ASX0tkzbT7Zi

@@CL-Filmz there are some options that you do need to disable in the menus, such as Area Mode, these are listed in the documentation for the previous firmware update that introduced Face Detect. Check and see if Area Mode is enabled in the menus. I don’t have the docs in front of me at the mo to be more specific.

Face detection is not that good for a live dance program and also have a quick question , how to hide the red button with 1 or 2 in the camera because it is getting broadcasted to the live stream and looks ugly
@apntv
@apntv 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the real world feedback, I haven’t used it for live dance, I used it last week for a band performance on stage, where there were singers at a mic stand or instrument players were sitting and fairly static. I got pretty good results with that, not perfect but usable. I guess where there us a lot more movement, like dance it may struggle more. When you say the red button is on your stream do you mean that the on-screen graphics display that you see in the viewfinder? How are you streaming, over Ethernet from the camera or are you taking the HDMI or SDI output?

@@apntv Thank you so much for your quick response. I would rate the face detection as great but the overall focus and the quality of the output is great. Regarding livestream, I take the output from the camera via hdmi(need to use a thin cable for the output to work) and stream it via slingstudio. I have removed all the readings expect this red button and 1 or 2 depending on the card the camera is recording. It is kind of ugly in a live stream, need any help to remove during livestream. Appreciate your advise .. I have another question on how to get accurate color like photography where I take a mug shot with light and for double color costumes the color in the camera might be off little which I will correct in post production. How can I do that process in video post production? Any tools or tricks that you're willing to share... Appreciate your advise once again... Looking forward to your reply.

Hello, I am writing from Turkey. I am a news cameraman. I also have this camera. I have a problem. After recording, it takes 3 seconds to re-record. It does not allow recording immediately. Is this problem fixed with the new update? Thanks

I’ll test that when I have the camera with me, I haven’t noticed a long delay but then I am not generally covering news. Have you tried the 10 second pre-record option? This will capture the previous 10 seconds at the start of the recording so that you don’t miss anything.

I just tried starting and stopping recording, I was able to restart in about 1 second or less here. I wonder what cards you are using? I have V60 cards and the write time on the cards may impact on the time it takes to restart if the buffer is still writing to the card of course.
