at one time there millions of buffalo in the USA and Canada which fertilized and worked up the land with there hooves and they also had seeds in there poop that regrowth the grass lands , they also found out how well the elephants regorged the land with seed in there dung .

And they died in the ecology -- not in a slaughterhouse ending up in a sewage treatment facility.

Quick answer- absolutely not. If anything, more cows seems like a main key for saving the world.

Youre not allowed to criticise livestock raised with BAD practices (CAFO, soy/maize feeding, land clearing) without demonstating an understanding of how broadacre monocropping has already killed the soil and water quality

But they don’t like talking about that, do they?;) The bias, corruption and greed is evident almost everywhere you look it seems. It’s sad, really. How did we allow the world to go so wrong?

@@ARBackfire it has ever been thus, but I think we are more likely to get to actually see it now, much more so than in previous times. My concern is with the assumption that 'plant based' = pure motives

These days you can't even buy medication that doesn't contain soy, it's everywhere. Just because it's so cheap it's been added to almost everything in the supermarket but the cows are getting the blame for deforestry.

@toni4729 it IS grown here but not as much as America. Only about 40,000T this year. Most of our medications are made overseas and the majority of the soy components in foodstuffs are emulsifiers/stabilisers and protein isolates, all used to extend shelf life of ultr-processed crap.

@@cassieoz1702 See, we can't get away from it even in this country now. I'm glad I don't buy anything that comes in packets with labels. I was annoyed to find vitamin D3 oil was sold in soy. It's supposed to be an animal product. You can't get away from it.

It's called a fallacy. It's meant to distract from the real environmental destroyer: the agro-industrial conglomerate. Big Pharma.

Surely the same argument can be made to eat less plants if grown industrially. This will produce more carbon.

Nice to see more people catching on, next step solutions! I'm ready to herd cattle by the thousand fold, adaptively and holistically to regenerate desertifying lands, but alas, there's no support available, nor infrastructure either. Savory figured this out fifty years ago. Put that together with Gaia Theory, the soil-food-web, and the newer work on the soil-carbon-sponge, and we have a rational view of how climate conditions are mitigated. We know, but what it would seem we don't know, is how to appropriately take over the systems of government, finance and education in a way that is necessary to make ecological stewardship a reality. But hopefully the tides are shifting. "Using ruminant animals as herds is our only tool for countering desertification on a large scale" Savory. And right in line with that, desertification is the single greatest driver of climate instability on our planet. Local biology creates global ecology, and yes, the cow is our sacred partner in our ability to regenerate the Earth

Both China and India have confirmed that they will keep increasing CO2 emissions for the next few decades. Those 2 already make up about 2/3rds of all emissions. Any effort to reduce CO2 by other countries is meaningless in the face of this. For example, the whole of EU is already at about 7.5% of total emissions, and the increased total emissions are on track to push that to 5% by 2030. The whole of EU could disappear, and it would have no effect on climate change.

What is happening is there is no climate crissis and the land is being harmed by massive vegan mono cropping for human consumption! And humans getting sick from eating so heavy plant based! Make a regulation that all land must be used for regenerative ranching and put limit on how many plants can be consumed as the humans eating plants and mono cropping are cussing the damage!

The problem is how we industrialize all life. Cows are victims of our greed. Feed any animal the wrong type of food and it ill cause great problems with digestion. The answer is to raise them properly and kindly with proper food. The answer is regenerative farming practices… it is or actions that are problem… human need to industrialize and commodify life.

plant agriculture is the real problem, it is all about destruction of the soil, of the biodiversity, of ot ecosystems. cows developed together with the whole ecosystem, they are a part of the natural cycles. in the excrements of the cows live insects which are essential for the whole system. cows fertilize the grassland and due to grazing the land it keep it living. the methane "argument" is completely ridiculous. everywhere in the nature where you have anaerobic bacteria methane is produced - in the swamps, in the rain forrests, even in the trees are methane-producing bacteria. biogenic methane is part of the nature and it is exactly this nature that created our mild and livable climate. there is nothing wrong about nature producing methane because it is one system which just works - a system where due to various mechanisms the planet is both cooled and warmed to achieve a homeostasis and a stable climate. it is so ridiculous to blame nature or a part of nature such as cows for what we have done by releasing fossile based greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. that is just a complete nonsense!

That is why the old farmers rotated crops with one rotation with livestock. And while vegetables are not great from a nutritional point of view, those grown properly have some. It will take time to switch to regenerative farming, but the farmers that have are extremely happy once they have.
