In honor of Pantera's 1992 masterpiece, Vulgar Display of Power, turning 30 this year, we spoke with vocalist Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown about the wild times they had while making the album and touring on it with their now-deceased bandmates, guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul. In this extended excerpt from the full conversation, Anselmo and Brown fondly recall some of the craziest experiences they had with Dime and Vinnie - the drinking game"twist and hurl," getting shirtless on an airplane, going feral on tour - and pay tribute to their everlasting legacy.
Fan Poll: Top 5 Songs on Pantera's 'Vulgar Display of Power'
"Walk" and "Hollow" didn't even make the cut
Watch above and tell us your favorite memory of Vulgar Display of Power in the comments below!

Yeah it's just a shame that Phil didn't get his act together way back then , when they broke up. History could have been altered and Dime would've never been in that club the day he was murdered. Not blaming him , but sure would have been a different outcome.....

Man you missed some crazy shit , i saw them for the first time in the early 90's at a small club on the Vulgar tour. Talk about an unbelievable show , the place only held between 500-1000 people. It was during the summer and had to be at least 150 degrees in there , after that tour they exploded and i saw them every time they came to my area. I also got to see their last tour for the Reinventing the Steel , with Slayer and Static X opening. Such a sick show and their pits were the craziest iv'e ever been in. Been headbanging for 40 years so that's saying something , considering iv'e literally seen every metal and thrash band since 1980...

@@kskip4242 not true, no dime=no pantera in Vinnie’s eyes and rightfully so. I hate when a key member dies and the band decides to have a “reunion”. It’s corny and it’s disrespectful, once someone dies there shouldn’t be a reunion because it’s impossible to reunite when one or multiple members are dead. The most respectful thing that any of them could do is to lay the bands legacy to rest and not reunite because it wouldn’t be the same without dime and everyone knows that.

Who remembers ripping up the wooden floor and moshing on the ice in Dallas Texas. I think it was at Fair Park Colesium or maybe it was Reunion Areana. Those shows back in the late 90s were out of control!! People lighting shirts on fire and throwing them up in the air, sneaking in bottles of whiskey, a huge cloud of weed smoke over the pit area and stage. We will never experience shows with that kind of chaos ever again. Good times for sure!!🔥💥🤟😝

I met them on gstk tour. It was a great show pantera, anthrax & kittie. The alternator on my car went out coming back from omaha. I was pushing my car down the interstate trying to get to the exit about 100 yards away. It was prob 3 degrees, snowing & cold as fk. Than their bus pulled over & rex grabbed a chain out of their their traler. They pulled me into the truck stop. I was broke & couldn't find anybody to come get me. The guys in pantera & their crew were cool as hell. They bought me something to eat. They had a buffet at the restaurant, dime & rex grabbed these 12" bread sticks & started sword fighting with them while grabbing handfuls of food & throwing at each other & using the food trays as sheilds. The whole area around the buffet was covered with lettuce, bacon, scrambled eggs, pudding anything they could get their hands on. When they left the waitress handed me a pack of marlboro reds. She said the guy with the pink beard told me to give this to you. It was about a half a pack of smokes, 2 points & $200. There was a note that said hope this will help you out Dime. When I went out to have a smoke my car was covered with stickers & silly string & the back seat of my car was filled with pantera shirts, drums sticks, guitar picks, signed bass drumhead, poster, stickers etc.

I am so glad that we still have you guys to keep the message going Pantera is way more than just the great music to us fans.i made my high school Brothers from Colo. Meet me in Vegas for slayers farewell after rough drive from S Lake (construction)my adopted downs syn. Son pulled his feed tube out had to get golf carted to the casino(construction) weaving my way through with my blind husky to get our room quickly before his belly healed n sealed knowing the dog needed to pee but got room plugged kid then the dog area was a o sticle course in a non maped park garage that even folks coming back after letting their dogs crap couldn't direct us to the designated nasty carpeted we finally found my dog looked at me like wtf I'm not supposed to piss on carpet and that $h/+s f-ing gross but next day was worth it all. Except I was beat I slept through Primus and Misistry used to dig but nowdays hate electronica crap. Screw fake computerized synthetic... specialy keyboards. The doors are barely tolerable. Church okay. But Phil and Benanti+ to celebrate his b-day freaken awesome! And my buds didn't expect what Slayer threw and Phil threw out either! I KNEW I GO TO EVERY METAL SHOW THATS WILLING TO COME GET UTAHD'D withing 3 or4 states They still thank me for talking.them into it I say if Pantera Slayer and Waylon aren't playing in heaven it wont be heaven and if I go to hell and they're playing it'll be heaven to me!

Man it's hard to still believe Pantera are no more and we will NEVER see them again or hear the guitar of Dime or the crushing drums of Vinnie , I got into them on the Vulgar album and was lucky enough to see them live . But in a weird silver lining way they are one of the few bands ( like the Beatles or Zeppelin) that had a 10 years on top and swung harder and played harder then anyone , they went out on top and as legends. Although I believe they would have absolutely gotten back together eventually it's kind of satisfactory that there legacy is perfect and untouchable. RIP the Abbott boys !

Drugs turn people into way different people, but heroin turns you into a monster. Phil has a very understandable history. He performed every fucking night with 100% of everything he had to offer, with or without a massive hangover and fucked his neck and back up. Starting the typical trajectory of starting with prescription pain killers, and the already immense alcohol intake the band was known for in a daily basis, it was all downhill. Once Phil’s tolerance level for pain killers picked up, he did what most other people do in that situation and turn to heroin. He was not himself during that time. I’m just glad we still have him here and he’s able to speak well again. For about 12 years, he could barely form a complete sentence and when he tried to sing, it sounded like the devil’s belch. If he lost some weight, he’d actually look somewhat like his younger self.
