a lot of people seem to think the song is about neglectful and abusive parents but if you pay attention to the lyrics it shows a lot more than that and even cancels out entirely that its about the parents with the chorus "I know you miss those kisses There are so many fishes" ( I mean come on guys you don't say that about your parents do you?), so I just wanted to say what I believe I think the song is about while actually consulting the lyrics. I think its about someone whos life is in black and white, everything is painful and dull, she can only see the bad that happens and nothing good shines through to her. it fits with the verses lyrics how she says "you could" to nothing but bad things. like its all she thinks about. then she falls in love with someone, but its different, safer, warmer, more real and that person became everything to her, life was wretched without them and now all the bad doesn't matter to her. her entire world was this person and nothing else mattered as long as she had them. she couldn't see any life without them, but something bad simply happened like usual and that person left her. with them gone she was stuck, she thinks shell never find someone else, shell never love anyone else that way, she wants to see them hold them kiss them again but she cant. I think that's when the chorus comes into play. it seems like its meant to be someone else sees what she's going through and realizes she needs consoled, they tell her that your meant to have relationships and they are meant to end, its how you grow and that for now it may feel like everything's over but in time your papercuts will heal, you'll grow and learn from it, you'll find someone else and with past experience maybe even someone better and one day you'll laugh that you thought you never would. which brings her back to the thoughts of all the bad things that could happen. "If you get cut, you can always get a bandage" that comes from the end of the second verse is where I think she's starting to realize that she WILL heal from it and she will even grow as a person in the process but she has to allow herself to, she has to put on a Band-Aid and let it take its time to heal.

I feel this could be interpreted in two ways: 1- Parents who don’t care about their children mental/physical pain and tells them “Stop crying they are people suffering worse than you so be grateful”. 2-When you want to give up on doing something bc of frustration or things are not getting better but then you remember that they’re worse things happening so just keep holding on and fighting soon things will be better.

Gotta say this is like at the top 5 of my favorite songs by her. Specifically the ones she hasn’t released over the years. I wish she would’ve released this but at the same time I’m glad someone uploaded this video because it’s just amazing to see how much talent and beautiful words she can put together that has an amazing meaning. Do I feel bad for listening to her unreleased music? No not really. Reason being is because I find that when you’re voice is out there in the open you get too nervous to speak about touchy subjects so honestly her unreleased music is almost better than her already released music just being it has a lot more meaning to them because she has no fear about touching things like this. Now I’m not saying I don’t like her already released music because personally I think all of her music is incredible and I am so happy she’s out there because she just has an amazing voice along with meaningful meanings behind the lyrics. So much love for Melanie and I hope she realizes how much of an amazing artist and just person in general. Obviously I’ve never personally met her or talked to her but just from her music you can tell she has a very unique outlook on life which is kind of hard to find in a lot of music these days and I really admire that about her. Anyways I’m gonna stop babbling off. We love you Mel. Keep doing what you’re doing. You’re amazing. And to whoever posted this thank you you’re an amazing person too. So much love ❤❤❤

It’s hard to listen to this song because it reminds me of when I was living in a toxic situation w my mom and her abusive gf. I relate to this song a lot.. Rant warning: I have TMAU and it really took my life away. Some people online who have TMAU try to reassure me by saying other people have it worse than me such as cancer and that they would rather have TMAU to see their child for another day. I understand the analogy but you can't just invalidate my feelings as well. I'd rather have cancer and have my days numbered rather than having fear of going outside. Everyday is a nightmare. I force myself to go to school knowing that I will get many bad reactions. I chose a course that involves a lot of social interaction and I now started to regret chasing after my dreams but I can't shift to a different course because my parents invested too much in my education. I know if I stay I'd only end up jobless cause BO can get someone fired.. even if it's a medical condition. In the end, it sounds like a coping mechanism. Telling yourself people have it worse feels like a coping mechanism. Although it's the truth, my situation is just as bad. Imagine being the type of person that befriends everyone in class, outgoing, extrovert to now a hermit.. I don't really think anyone read this lol but it feels good to type it out and vent 😢

I think I’ve found the meaning so basically a paper cut in this song is a heartbreak so it’s saying that it could be worst and understanding how you feel but you could like being hit by a train or worst

T W .I feel like this song is about self harm "paper cut or two" your gonna cut yourself "don't be sad it's really not that bad for you" meaning it won't be that bad and that you can probably stop "you can find a razor in your peanut butter sandwich, if you get cut you can always use a bandage" can mean that you can find a razor anywhere to use and if you cut too deep don't worry there should be a bandage somwhere. Idk it's just my take on it.

No it's fine bc this song was written back in K-12 but she doesn't care about this anymore, the only songs you can't listen to are the songs from her upcoming album, K-12 is already released
