Teen Prez I was surprised too. I was worried it wouldn’t capture the feel of the game but It added on to the already great story, I think I read Kojima oversaw this adaptation as well which is probably why basically the entire game dialogue is intact too; thankfully. Hope you get to check it out. I also just got a proper mic so I’ll be re recording earlier episodes like mgs2 and will probably add a section for that novel after I read it too.👍

Great video but I noticed a bit of an error near the beginning. Metal Gear was ported to the NES, not Super NES in 1988 with no involvment from Kojima. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake did not see an official US/EU release until 2006. The game you showed was Snake's Revenge (also for the NES, not SNES), a game that released the same year as Metal Gear 2, but was made before it, also without Kojima's involvement. The only reason MG2:SS exists is because Kojima bumped into a developer from the Snake's Revenge team on a train, who asked him to make a true sequel to Metal Gear.

I remember playing the first Metal Gear on NES, but I was really young at the time, '85 kid here. MGS on PS is the one I found and fell in love with. I remember seeing it for the first time at my local video rental store and the cover stood out to me so much. Rented it and the rest is history. I've played through every single installment more than once. I'm also someone that can point out the ridiculousness of the story and scenes, but still enjoy it as a whole. Twin Snakes was great, but I remember even at the time, thinking how goofy the scenes were at times. Guns of the Patriots was top notch for me and it was a great bookend for the series at the time. I still wish Kojima was able to finish Phantom Pain, it was a great game, but not so good MGS game. Still have 200+ hours in it personally. BUT we did get Death Stranding!

I remember as a 10 year old kid i was really into military/spy thriller action stuff and I saw the trailer on TV for MGS and I HAD to have it. I was so excited to play it just thinking it would be a fun spy thriller action game, I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I remember early on thinking to myself how something was different about this experience, the strange character names, how it alluded to the fact that some of them had otherworldly powers. I just thought, meh ok ill roll with it. But it really kind of hit me the first time you hear The Best is Yet to Come start playing when swimming into the basement of shadow moses, holy shit what is this game???. The next few days and probably 10 plus hours it took me to actually beat it as a little kid are still the most transcendent and meaningful Ive had consuming any form of media in my life. I must have played the game through 20-30 times in the coming months, I wanted to unravel every hidden meaning and ingest every single story beat. Every release of the sequels for the rest of my life was like my own personal holiday, no matter what was going on in my life I would just be like nah im playing the new Metal Gear today. Anyway ill shut up now but its nice to have watched your MGS vids lately I can tel you may have had the same feelings I did, and they have given me a real pang of nostalgia. Thanks man. Cant wait for the next one.

It’s really easy to say in hindsight, but even as a 10 year old playing this game I knew what I was experiencing was one of the greatest and most important games ever made. Something about it was just different than anything I had played before and I knew that it deserved attention. It was just as revolutionary as something like Super Mario 64 was for platformers. It really raised the bar for video games as a storytelling medium and although the series has become more mechanically and technically impressive I still feel like they haven’t really done better than the original 20 years later. My dad, who has never given a shit about a video game in his life before or since, watched me play this from beginning to end one weekend. That was when it kinda clicked for me that what I was playing was more than just another video game, but something that was really breaking new ground and pushing video games as a whole forward. It’s truly a masterpiece and I will never get tired of talking about it.

I remember seeing a copy of this at a cousins house. He definitely recommended it, but I didn't have a PS1. Fast forward to the PSP era, I got one during my sophomore year of high school with a copy of Portable Ops. While not entirely wrapping my head around how it was supposed to be stealth until later, I still enjoyed the hell out of it. A little later that year, I read an article on the upcoming MGS4, which had a history of the series so far. After some hard work and saving up, got a copy of it and also, by sheer luck, found a party pack that had MGS, MGS2, and MGS3 for the complete price of $30. Without a second thought, I bought the pack, ran home as fast as I could, plugged MGS into the PS3 (thank god it could play PS1 discs), and didn't stop until I realized I had been up all night and had to go to church. Since then, MGS has been one of my favorite games of all time, and the series has been a favorite of mine since. Can never get enough of playing this game.

I would love a remake on all systems with the graphics we get today but all the controls are the same as the PS1. The controls behind the first game were a big part of it. My first mgs experience was Snake Eater. I'd just had my best friend play through Silent Hill 2 during the first UK Lockdown and he'd managed to piss me off by killing everything he came across instead of just running by. So when it came time for me to play his favourite game, I decided stealth wasn't an option. I was a fuckin war machine, gunning down everyone with each alert that sounded. The highlights being mowing down tens of soldiers on the mountain top with a turret I found and chasing down the end, blowing him away with a shotgun. Later ended up regretting that turret rampage when it came to The Sorrow's River. Since then I've played through every MGS with only 4 left to finish. He may now be on the other side of the planet, both that mother fucker gave me his MGS memes.

While this wasn't the game I started the series with, it was the game that made me like it, mainly cause I just resonated so much with Snake. By the end I was loving it, and it just felt like a wonderful game I wanted to play forever. As I said earlier I only played MGS2 first, and for MGS1 when I first got the "Essential Collection" for PS2 I remember when I was in the parking lot of the game store with my mom, going through all of the first three games' playing manuals and reading them from front to back, just trying to figure out what this whole series was about. Nowadays I play MGSV with random videos in the background just to have that Metal Gear fix, mainly because I only really have a functioning PS4 right now and my other games and consoles don't work, so going through these videos allows me to relive the memories I had with these games, and I have to thank you for that. I also put these videos into a playlist of other gaming stuff that I have watched over the years called "Big Boi Game Time" and I will forever cherish the memories I had with these videos, even if me and the dude on the video never meet, it's interesting to know that his videos, especially on a series of games that I only knew from the games until KZfaq videos gave me more insight to how these games were made and some of the Background on them, have impacted me in a highly positive way. May God bless you man, and may you find much success in the future.

What makes Mgs what it is, is its future and its past. I am currently since June 2020 on a MG marathon, playing the story from the beginning (snake eater), now I am on son's of liberty. And played no other games in between, only MG. I noticed that most things of mgs where already featured in 87s Metal Gear and 90s MG solid snake. The codec, the cardboard box the scopes the thermal goggles, the cqc, the hind the cameras the remote missiles, the electric floors, the infrared beams. Mgs is the previous MG games that became cinematic if I could say so in a very few words. Also if you noticed from mgsv, the staff members names like, crying harrier, cunning mastiff, brutal gecko etc. Is like Sniper Wolf, decoy octopus, psycho mantis, 2 words describing animals into people's characteristics. And its something I noticed after I played mgsv and recently played mgs for the 4798134th time. All mg saga is included in mgs. Hail Kojima hail Metal Gear

Wanna hear something crazy. (or read to be more accurate.) The first time I played MGS I got the Otacon ending. And the second time... and third time etc etc. For years I wasn't even aware there was two possible endings and I played MGS 1 more times than I could count by the time I played MGS 3 Snake Eater. Because I couldn't tap the button fast enough to make it through the torture scene. I would always submit. I used to think it was designed that way so that the player would have no other way to get past it than to submit. I would have been really confused by Meryl's appearance in MGS 4 if it hadn't been for my brother figuring it out. He taught me a technique where he basically vibrated his whole arm to press a button more rapidly than I would have believed to be possible if I didn't see him do it myself. It was hard for me to do at first. It was actually painful until my arm muscles got used to it. Anyway My brother and I had both played MGS countless times for the better part of a decade and suddenly we both discovered a whole other ending. I had a lot of mixed feelings about it. I didn't know which ending was cannon until MGS4 and I found out the Otacon ending that I became so attached to wasn't it... Oh well. I got over it. And it's still my favorite game. I learned to love the Meryl ending.

Now I'm playing mgs2 and after that I will play mgs3 which I left unfinished cuz my PS2 got broken.

@@PaperStarship just watching a let's play and after torture scene, "Miller" says: "Hiding a bomb in your items... that's a despicable act. He should never... Well, forget it. You'd better hurry to the underground base... you're almost out of time". Ocelot is a trip-qud-quintuple agent, he ACTUALLY tries to kill Snake (and sabotage the launch), and Liquid panics because of that, missing the fact that Ocelot is killing people critical to the mission on purpose (he killed DARPA chief before he gave the launch codes too). No idea if they had explanations for the Hind fight but apart from Ocelot they don't really try to kill you (other boss fights, Ninja and Raven, obviously didn't go at full force, they only fight to the death on second meeting) so that checks out, remember the first person you kill canonically is Psycho Mantis. Pretty sure Liquid either is confident Snake will pass by genome soldiers mostly undetected, or he considers them flawed, so expendable... almost everyone else tries to capture, not kill you until after MGS is launched. Notice how wolf could have shot you instead of Meryl, and Raven has you fight some random gunners instead... and Master Miller is always there to help you get out of trouble if something goes against the plan.

You show Snakea Revenge when saying that the games were released in america, but this is not the case. MG was released in the USA, and then the american branch if Konami made Snakes Revenge on their own. During production Kojima heard about it through the grapevine and pretty much decided "screw that, its my game, I will make the sequel, and it will be better than theirs!" and started work on MGSS, which was not released in the west until it was included in the Subsistence release of MGS3.

The voice acting and bosses are still epic, and no MGS has done bosses like this after that. ( except The Boss obviously)

Nice video but you got the detail of metal gear being ported to the Super Nintendo wrong. The first game was ported to the NES and an unofficial sequel was made for the NES called Snakes Revenge. One of the people who worked on Snakes Revenge met and discussed Metal Gear with Hideo Kojima on a train and told him he should make a true sequel. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake was released on the MSX2 and was NEVER Ported to another system until Subsistence. Just needed to clarify because you put a lot of work in your research and that is a HUGE detail. Had that conversation not happened Solid would likely have never been made.

I played MGS1 without cut scenes. Not because I didn't like them but the reason is that I found a PC copy of this game. And due to data limitations back in 90's it was bare minimum. So my experience is more like a gameplay oriented rather than the story side. But I was curious about the whole story rather than the codec calls. It means the gameplay was masterpiece of that time .

@@PaperStarship The gameplay mechanics were so advance at that time or may be a head of it's time. So it wasn't less than a masterpiece to me. Other franchises like tomb raider were not closer to the reality as much as MGS1 was. And my English wasn't so good back in 90's so I knew I missed a lot of story. But I was having feeling of being an agent who can call his base and ask clues for next step. Imagine what did I had to do when Miller asked me to check the back of the disk for code. Well, I had to connect my dialup connection and search the code. What an experience which had an impact in my real life. None of my friend could beat this game as it wasn't a child's play. From story's perspective, it was too late for me when I came to know that I have missed the cut scenes. For instance, Snake meets Myrl, but for me, I happened to be with her in a gun fight where I didn't know who's this person next to me. So I had to drop the story for later because the gameplay was so involving and mesmerizing, I couldn't resist myself to finish the whole game. For story, I played it again but at that time, the graphics couldn't inspire me much but I got the story at least. However, I couldn't let go the Twin Snake unplayed. By that time, new benchmark was set by mgs2 and 3 so it was a lot to take in. Thanks for your video which took me back in time and recall the amazing moments in my life.

@@PaperStarship this franchise is a yard stick to me to judge other similar games i.e splinter cell and hitman. Every addition was meaningful to this franchise either it's mgo or titles on handheld devices. As for Konami and him it was a big pissing match, he went over budget on some shit and they punished him. Honestly he had been trying to take a backseat to the mgs franchise since number 2 but fans wouldn’t let him. He actually got death threats to make mgs4. I’m kinda glad he got to stop making mgs and do something new and I hope he keeps doing new things. Sorry for the long rant. But main point, keep playing man 🤙👍

My first Metal Gear experience was Metal Gear Solid 1. It was early 1999 and just had our Playstation for a few months. It was also the Number 1 PS1 game according to PSM (100% Independent Playstation Magazine) is what got me into the Franchise in the first place. And I look forward to this new MGS1 Remake after The Twin Snakes fiasco. I like the Remake, but there's something wrong with it: The visual looks dark compared to the Original and MGS2 that I can barely see. Some of the glitches kill the game: The camera near the stairs in the tank hangar always spot you no matter what you do, except if you use Chaff and if you get spotted even once you always get Alert 3 times, even if you Reset the game or die and exit. And some of the cutscenes are ruined: the Original cutscene with the tower bridge was dramatic. After the bridge gets destroyed the Hind appears and Snake runs toward the handrail where you're supposed to use the Rope, but in Twin Snakes after the bridged is destroyed a metal debris flies towards Snake, Snake chucks a Grenade at it, WALK TOWARDS the handrail where you're supposed to use the Rope, the Hind appears and there's NO MORE DRAMATIC RUNNING! And in the cutscene where Gray Fox dies, why does Snake scream his name before he gets crush?

Hey man I've discovered your channel recently and I really enjoy your analyses you've been doing on the series. You clearly put a lot of work into them. But it's strange, sometimes you just have some big inaccuracies that don't seem befitting considering the rest of your work is really high quality. You said both MG and MG2 were were ported to the Super Nintendo. But that's incorrect on multiple levels. Firstly Snake's Revenge isn't a port of Metal Gear 2. It's a sequel to MG1 commissioned by Konami without Kojima knowing or having any input on it. It was made before MG2 was made. In fact it was only when Kojima found out about the game and heard how sub par it was, that he decided to make a true sequel to his original game on the MSX2 after some encouragement from a co-worker. Secondly they were not released for the Super Nintendo but rather the NES, the Super Nintendo predecessor. These errors don't seem that big a deal but I just feel you're kinda letting yourself down because the rest of the quality is so high and these are really silly mistakes that should be easily caught. Even a wikipedia article says what console and what release date for the games. I hope I haven't come off disrespectful or naggy. I'm looking forward to your next MGS video. If you're interested, I also made a comment on your MGS2 video about some weird misinformation you had.

I appreciate the compliment. And the corrections. A lot of this stuff is simple facts that had I taken a bit more time would’ve gotten them right. But I’m human and make mistakes and just make these vids for fun. MGS2 and 3 vids did make me work a lot harder on research and even just thinking about different angles that haven’t been explored with whatever topic I choose. I actually posted about a month ago that I’m most likely done with MGS content. I couldn’t make anything better than mgs4 was a mais take for 4 if I tried and mgsv I just don’t have the same fanatic love for that title like I do 1-3. But I do have something fun. Planned for death stranding at some point . Hope you continue to enjoy the vids and honestly keep making corrections If I miss something. I don’t claim to be perfect or have all the info and the more people that contribute the better. I’m just a dude who loves movies and games and semi knows how to edit a video lol 🤙👍

Do you think MGS should get a remake
@PaperStarship
@PaperStarship 2 жыл бұрын
No. I think the original should be ported to modern consoles but I don’t think it should be remade. I think a remake takes away from what made those games so unique and great when they did come out. I just don’t see anyway that an MGS remake could improve on the stealth action genre. That was always a big selling point of each MGS title was the increased stealth and strategic elements added. Unless Konami can pull a rabbit out of there hat on that front I don’t see any need for an MGS remake. The better testing ground for a remake is MG1 and 2. I think those titles warrant a remake first before touching anything from PS1-4
