Its almost too painful for me to play this game growing up my best friend and I were huge mgs fans and when this came out we were just flabbergasted by how amazing this game was. I think my friend even became a soldier because of these games. He saw some intense stuff he became a marine corps grunt and later he would constantly complain about physical symptoms related to PTSD but he would also say that he thought the injections given to him in the corps fucked up his brain. Later he eventually killed himself after years of suffering from a liver illness and mental problems. The last scene of the game where big boss salutes the bosses grave is now for me a chilling reminder of a person I lost along the way.

Eeeeeeh… I still like MGS5, it’s _the worst main entry in the series… second worst main entry in the series_ (forgot Survive just there) but it’s still a pretty good game, just not a good enough Metal Gear game, _especially the story_ and in comparison to 4 or Peace Walker… _oh and_ being one of the reason why _Hunt Down the Freeman exist_
@neofromthewarnerbrothersic145

@@James-oj6ru Have to agree. I was so unbelievably hyped for MGSV, and it was a great game in a lot of ways. But it was just... missing some things, I think mostly as a result of being open world. Just didn't have the same charm. The cinematics and cutscenes were severely lacking, the story felt mostly disjointed. Not enough camp and goofiness, seemed like it took itself too seriously. MGS3 was just the absolute pinnacle of the series, and of gaming in general imo. Lightning in a bottle. But yeah, MGSV wasn't a bad game by any stretch. Just didn't fully feel like a Metal Gear Solid title.

MG3 Snake Eater was one of the first games I played when I finally bought my PS2 back in 2004. It is a game that I hold very dearly to my heart. It is definitely the peak of the MG series. I remember completing the game 100% with all the obtainable items and animals, including the legendary tsuchinoko, and also beating the entire game without getting detected or killing anybody in order, as well as shooting all the secret toy frogs, to unlock some of the most unique camouflages, with the help of some written walkthroughs that I found on forums since back then there was no KZfaq. Sometimes I would go to sleep with the sounds of the forest from the game. One of my all time favorite games, no doubt
@quiggs8361

I remember shooting all the frogs too, the ones in the last section during the motorcycle chase were the most difficult. It took so much effort, that when the rerelease Subsistence came out, I didn’t even bother trying to do it all again Lmao. I never did get to figure out how to catch the legendary Tsuchinoko tho….

The only problem I find in 3 is that you cant walk while crouching...that's it. And that could have been because of the PS2 limitations, like the game running at 30fps. Other than that, this is probably the perfect stealth game.

Thank you so much for giving credit to the composer whose name I can’t spell. The healing tracks are fantastic and I listen to them all the time. I was born in the 70s, and I lived through that Era, the 80s, 90s, and onto present day. I have played every Metal Gear game and these same games changed my life from being a freshman in highschool with my old Famicom system thank you sis for buying it for me...to Playstation 4. Life has changed for me and the last remaining Metal Gear games evolved as well. I was a young naive highschooler who thought life was awesome and fun. Metal Gear proved that I could live vicariously through Snake being a stealth agent and the life therof. James Bond, eat your heart out! As I grew older, I've I witnessed the tragedy of September 11, Metal Gear Solid 2, and as tragic as life was, I soldiered on with my grief over the events, knowing that life was not fair...what a somber feeling... Metal Gear Solid 3 brought back the nostalgia of innocence lost in the 70s, but also escapism from the realities of 2000s. I miss my youth and friends long gone now. Wrapping up my MGS4 experience, my life was in turmoil, but Kojima's fourth entry reminded me to blend into history and make do with what you have. MGSV brought a closure to my pain I felt. My mother had a breakdown, my father was ill, my sister was diagnosed with adrenal deficiency and aneurysm, and we were kicked out of our home. MGSV and God helped me through all that. As that was the fifth masterpiece of Kojima San, I played through and wept at it's end. I lived life as Snake in my way, and I won! I bought my first home and my family is well, Thank God!!! I said goodbye to Snake, and so did we all when Kojima closed his doors to Konami. Thank you Kojima San! You don't know what you helped me with in my little life. You never know what gaming experiences do to your soul, but maybe you could be the next director of a Metal Gear type of game. The sky is the limit, and I sincerely hope to play another Solid Snake game someday♡♡♡

21:04 fun fact: the if you codec call Major Zero, or Sigint (can't remember) they'll actually name the helicopter the "Hind" and then if you call them back, they'll say that it could be dangerous, and you should probably destroy it now so you don't have to deal with it later. That's the only way I discovered I could destroy it early

In regards to the graphics and engine development, I'm really interested in how they made the real-time reflection and distortion effects on the water. I'm assuming they do the usual old method of just copying and flipping the meshes, but also make them vanish when when you go under the water?
@PaperStarship

I will say that is impressive especially in the Pains Cave . Unfortunately in all the articles I found there wasn’t anything super in depth into those aspects of development. And another brilliant execution! MGS3 was a remarkable piece of art. And your analysis is just as remarkable. I remember getting Metal Gear on the NES for my birthday the year of came out in North America. I wanted Contra but my parents said all of the stores they looked for it were sold out at the time. I wasn't ungrateful, and I played it every chance I got. I never beat the game, but I had fun trying. I would have never imagined that it would become the monster of a franchise it is today. But even then, as a child, I knew there was something special about it. And at 40+ years old, I'm watching videos about every detail of it! Great breakdown, my dude. I'm loving this stuff. Bless up!

I managed to play the mgs2 demo via a playstation magazine demo disc, and i was so hyped. Its also weird that the prototype for "guy savage" was an easter egg because I got it on my first play through. I must of saved the game in the prison cell for the day, and got it the next.

Being honest I may do a couple specific topic based vids for 3 like open world linearity and maybe one just exploring the subversive ness of its boss fights but I don’t see myself doing a retrospective type video. For these games I want to projects that are more unique and have an angle or tone that hasnt really been done. I actually have some other projects planned next but I will be silently working behind the drapery 😉 on the skeleton of a big MGSV project.

I never exactly understood why this was people's favorite since I didn't see many of the easter eggs and did almost no optional codec calls but after seeing this I completely understand. I'll probably replay MGS3 now and experiment more.

Awesome video again bro... I loved every second of this . You’re 100% right too... usually people say TPP is the apex of game play in the series I’ve always said the snake eater was. I understand the argument but in terms of innovation and just flat out fun factor snake eater takes the title. I must’ve used that cig spray 100000 times.

Came for some MGS documentary and I stumble upon this amazing documentaries clearly the best ever series. This is exactly what MGS needs. This is exactly what Kojipro fans need. This is exactly what matters. If anyone has to make a documentary of MGS and Death Stranding it really had to be you. You have created a treasure and made history which is going to leave a mark on this world. I am at peace now. Im sure Kojima San loves this GEM.

The only reason I bought an old Playstion 3 in 2018 was the Metal Gear Solid 4 and 3 titles. I never cared about video games at that point but was so enthralled with what they story and game looked like.

I apologize for being late fanatic video and lol good to know that even back then that MGS fans have always had “extreme” theories and enjoyed uncover trailers and Kojima always messing with them Kojima and his team are indeed legendary. Lol I remember when I was younger I always had fun with Guy Savage I always tried to make the demo last as long as possible. Lol I remember it tricked me the first time I played it thinking there was something wrong with the disc, since then every time I played 3 I would always save the game just play it. 3 will always have a special place in my heart. Wonderful job :-)
