How would you approach this using hardware compression through the DAW, specifically the phase issues?

I'm not the best person for advice on this topic, but personally I would use the hardware for tracking and use plugins for mixing. I am not aware of any methods for matching the latency, and the only other option I know of is to use better hardware. Sorry if that's not the answer you were hoping for, but again, this isn't something I am super knowledgeable about. Hope that helps.

@@AudioMountain777 Hey I appreciate the reply! I have tried, but never had much success with latency matching when it comes to parallel processing in a DAW using outboard processing. However, I'll try again by visually matching waveforms rather than relying on numbers and see if that helps. Many thanks for the inspiring videos, particularly the mid/side insights.👍
