Be sure to make it to tip #10. It's hands down the best tip of all.
Did we miss anything? Give us your parenting tips and advice in the comments below! #makeroomforlife
We've compiled the best parenting tips to know before having a baby to help you sift through the mounds of parenting advice you're going to get. Becoming a parent is a huge change and a lot of things you won't fully understand until baby arrives. However, these tips and guidance will help prepare you for parenthood and that special day.
00:00 [Parenting Advice: 10 Things I Wish I'd Known Before Having a Baby]
00:21 [10. Do what works for you and don't get on the internet because you can Google anything and everyone has a different opinion]
00:42 [9. Get on a schedule!]
00:52 [8. Be sure to take time for yourself. Go to they gym, drop the baby off at grandma's, take a 20 minute nap, etc.]
01:06 [7. Discover who your baby is and let them be. Don't try to mold them to what you want]
01:14 [6. Be prepared for the unexpected because it will happen]
01:30 [5. You're going to have to make room for the baby. They come with SO many things!!!]
01:46 [4. Memories are the only thing you'll have after all is said and done. So be sure to make and keep some keepsakes.]
02:03 [3. Be grateful for your kids!]
02:31 [2. Don't be too hard on yourself. The house can wait. All of the chores can wait.]
02:55 [1. The one thing you can't understand and prepare for, that you're not going to know until you experience it is all the love. Be prepared to love something more than you ever thought you could.]
Relax! You're going to do great.

One of the best things my wife and I did was taking turns getting a good night's rest. Instead of us taking turns waking up each night, we just swapped nights. As long as one of us was fresh and awake (instead of us both drowsy), we handled things much better.

I've lost count how many times I've watched this video, and every time I've cried. It's always been something have come back to, when my husband and I were trying to conceive and nothing was happening. When I wanted to give up, this video would remind me why I felt so strongly about becoming a mum. Happily, I'm pregnant with that longed for baby, and the tears I cry now are of joy and excitement of what we have to come :)

***** - NOOO.. A 13 year old girl would cry from this because it's just an emotional video.. that's not very accurate advice lol. Even people who don't want children like me found this emotional, because it's just an emotional video.. designed like that.. people crying.. sad music.. facial expressions.. slow pace.. etc. The idea is to manipulate your emotions.. movies do it all the time "this part is supposed to be sad because we're playing sad music". Also to clarify, "every great" is probably just joking. But still.

+Zoe Blayney because you're alive and human and feel love and are able to empathise with others and feel a part of what they feel, in this case love for their children. it's how humans are built, it's how we are what we are as a species.

No 11 - No matter what they do, how much they stress you out, take a few seconds and always think of this.......what would you do if they were gone. Sobering thought to get you through any sleepless night, tantrum, public meltdown or teenage rebellion. No one gets it right 100% of the time. Luckily kids forgive easily. It's a shame as adults we hold grudges and life becomes less colourful. Parenthood is a privellege not a right. Cherish that. I do 4 times over 💖💖💖💖

Now that I'm older and more mentally mature, I'm slowly starting to understand and appreciate how much my parents have done for me in my life, how much they must love me. And I actually feel really bad as to how long it took for me to realise this, I was such a happy, oblivious child and never learned to truly appreciate my parents until so much later. :'|

I can't help but tear up when I hear the sincere love in all of these people's voices. I cannot wait.(On a side note: people at work are probably like "Why the hell does he look so emotional at his desk right now!?!?!?!?!?!?").

As a father of three who are high school/early college age, I would say that don't worry that you'll have to do everything perfect in order to raise an amazing child into an amazing adult. Just provide structure, consistency, gentle guidance and LOTS AND LOTS of love. They will do the rest on their own and become amazing people. Trust me on this!

All very good points. The one thing I tell parents of young children is to treasure every moment. Looking back I realized how simple life was when my kids were small and how much more demanding it gets when they get bigger -- more running, more money, bigger problems, much less or no control, outside influences, and constantly reacting to things you didn't have control over in the first place.

I remember watching this video when my friend got pregnant because she posted it on her Facebook wall and it made me cry. I just came across this again and it made me cry even harder. I recently miscarried for the second time. My husband and I are trying for a baby and it's just been really hard to have to go through two miscarriages in a row. I know someday it will happen, and when that day comes it will be the best day of my life. Being a mom is something I've wanted to be my entire life. Sorry for the rant. My emotions are just all over the place right now.

I'm a new mom to be... Several weeks before those those 2 red lines showed up, I was debating on permanently enabling my ability to have children... I was one of those people that were pretty sure they didn't want kids. Mainly because I'm afraid of failing them. Well, though still worried, I actually jumped up and down in joy when I saw the positive result. Well.. 4 months in, I'll be finding out the little sea monkey's gender in a few days... And the inevitability of being a mom bulldozed me down two days ago... Terrified, I looked up tips... And found this super positive message. Thank you so much. You made this 26 year old woman shaking in her boots relax and smile.

This video shouldn't confirm anything for you. You just sound a bit starry eyed. This video to me seemed extremely fake and exaggerating emotions like crazy. This video was meant to stir that up in you and you ate it up lol. Don't raise a kid because you think its going to be some kind of blissful magical thing. kids are just people. Not some special little miracle that brings meaning to your life.

ALL TRUE! Every last one of them! You'll smile, laugh, nod your head in agreement and, by the end . . . . . you'd better have a tissue! (or ten.)

Man I've been the most indecisive person on the planet when it comes to whether I should have kids or not. This kind of made me make up my mind... Ok, just need to find a man now

I really appreciate and love people who can go through the parenting process. It is something I will never want to experience, but I can understand how beautiful, hard and rewarding it is. And I agree with that first tip, don't take in all the advice you hear. Especially from those anti-vaxxers.

Agree with everything except the schedule idea. Trying to force what you think should be happening on a little person is only going to piss off the little person and frustrate you. Instead of implementing a schedule, learn your child's schedule, they will develop their own bedtime, their own nap times and eating times and they will be consistent, you kust have to be realistic and not expect a new born to sleep through the night, or do much more then eat, sleep, poop.

Like a 2nd mother since 8 yrs.old Too young to take care of baby. Younger siblings needs to have parents but parents are at work. So older sister needs to take care of younger sister. We're 9 and I'm the 5th. A lot of tasks at home. At the teenage life, baby sit with my cousins 2 years old and below. Oh I feel like I'm a back up mother of their real mother. You know the crying that they want their own mom and running around everywhere like they don't stop. Carry here, carry there, carry baby everywhere. Making milk, wash baby's clothes, do the poopy pop, clean the baby's stuff and everything. And the mom where? Oh she's busy. It's not easy to have a baby, I cried a lot those times I feel like I am the one suffering but after all they are big now. I'm passed the tasks and thank you for all the wonderful experiences babies and now I'm married so, no baby for now. I'm done!
