Train lines tried to ruin the 12e arrondissement, but it found a way to make it work. Grab a copy of my guide to Paris at go.parisinmypocket.com/20in20 and take a chance to get one of my hand drawn maps of Paris while helping me make better videos at / jayswanson

The 12th arrondissement of Paris is underrated, in my opinion. For the Coulee Verte alone, it's worth a visit. Grab dinner in Gare de Lyon, drinks with boxer bros, or take a long stroll along the basin at Arsenal if you're craving some boats on the water. It's not a bad place to end up.
My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.

FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? Over five years now, holy cow.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: • Draw My Life
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: bit.ly/JaysGearList
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: • Why I Want to Live in ...
Do you speak French? - Oui. • Un Jour en Francais (E...
Do you make money off KZfaq? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $5/mo to help me make better videos: / jayswanson
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): ko-fi.com/jayswanson
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. So instead people often drop off or ship things to the Peloton Cafe in Paris for me.
Thanks for watching!

“Wrecked” by trains?? 😲 Trains are a feature! #railgeek 😉 We stayed just down the street from Gare de Lyon on our recent trip. Thanks to some of your earlier videos, we did walk part of the Coulee Verte. We did go to Le Train Bleu. We arrived at the station coming back from Avignon so we just walked up and asked them if they had any openings for lunch. They were able to give us a reservation for 7p so we came back that night. If you still want to go, maybe just walk up and ask about that evening. Perhaps you get lucky like we did! Glad we did. I’m not s foodie but the restaurant is gorgeous. We were one table away from their open front windows so it was a very enjoyable meal. Plus it’s in a train station and I was able to see TGVs when we arrived and left! 👍🏻

@@bombaytalkie. It was fine. During the day, there was a lot of foot traffic of people obviously heading to the train station. Just a typical area of Paris. I went out for a late walk the first evening we stayed there and it was fine then too. Not as sketchy as near some train stations in Europe (thinking to the east and north of Gare du Nord or Frankfurt). Not many out later in the evening but I was fine walking back to the hotel that evening.

I was at Le Train Bleu a couple of months ago. The food was meh, but even though i had seen tons of pics and vids, I was still gobsmacked by the grandeur. I hope you go soon! Next time, I'll just order a cocktail, a cheese plate and salad. :)

We have just watched a few of your videos. While they're generally quite informative, I have to say that the amount of self-promotion and advertising is just too much. I understand that KZfaqrs try to find ways to increase their outside income, but I honestly think you would have more subscribers and views, if you would turn it down a notch or rather five.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. As you know, every single video I post on KZfaq is essentially free labor, to bring you information on Paris and give you advice. My guide complements this, and if I didn't well, sell it, I wouldn't be able to do this job and continue make videos.

@@JaySwanson That you advertise your book, I have nothing against. That you do so every minutes, I feel is aggravating. I supported you on Patreon until you made more than my own revenue. I criticized your video because I thought you could do better.
