There is an old BMX hand grip trick whereby you remove the grip, spray the post with hairspray then reinstall the grip while the hairspray is still wet. After a few minutes the grip is on for good. No slippage whatsoever.

All I'm saying is.. $800.00... vs $200.00... for maybe anywhere between 10% to 20% increase in quality with some of these quirks you could fix post buying the flycam(lubrication, glue for the handle, wearing in the gimbal in, etc.) Unless you do work for huge brands you don't need a glidecam. Not about the tools it's just about the artist anyone can master the tools they can afford.

I mean for $800 why not just buy a Ronin-S? I have a Ronin S and ironically I've been looking for a glidecam to replace it heh. I mean the setup time for a fully rigged BMPCC 4k is very long especially because you need an offset plate, which requires a flat head screw driver, to fasten onto your base. So I had to do it again I would've just bought a cheap glide cam, a very good tripod head and a slider.

@@flipnap2112 I agree with your theory, but this isn't about "not having spare money", this is about those who want the best results, and most of the time you have to pay for that. With the Flycam work for most? Absolutely. I used it for two years. And then I started to outgrow it because the design "flaws" were starting to show and that's where the more expensive Glidecam shines. At the end of the day, a professional isn't worried about $400 for superior results, even if it's just the smallest. Why are people shooting in 6 and 8k when 90% of the population watches everything on devices 1080 or equivalent? Because they want the best, it's as simple as that.

As a new subscriber I've noticed that your leg walking technique is something overlooked by a lot of people. The way you personally walk whilst gliding is almost as much as an art form as the videography itself. You've definitely trained your 'walk' and it makes all the difference. I own a Steadicam Solo, I find it fantastic for both gliding and using as a tripod at a moments notice.

Thanks Parker! I had not really considered the Flycam until your comparison. I was looking more at an electronic gimbal to fly my C100/C200, BMCPro 4.6 type cameras but when you do the add-ons for wireless video, wireless FIZ, and filters, the cost of an electronic gimbal becomes astronomical to have the cushion in payload required. These little 5 lbs cameras quickly become 10-12 lbs cameras. I already have a couple of Zhiyuns and an old Glidecam V-16. I have learned a lot about both and before investing into stabilizer tech either electronic or "Newtonian". One must really look at how future changes and personal growth will affect what one buys. I am not of the camp that likes to trade gear in every 6 months, so I try to take the best information in and hopefully get at least 3 good years of use out of my gear. (17 years for the Glidecam so far) For this price point, I took a chance and picked up the Redking along with the Galaxy arm and vest for less than the DGS alone! The RedKing is awesome! Now, I can retire my V-16!! Today, I am modding the Redking to put all my wires inside the post. THANKS FOR A GREAT REVIEW!!!

I just purchased and received a Flycam Redking. A comment about the soft grip handle, the unit I received has the grip glued in place. Either the unit Parker received didn't get glued the MFR saw his video and improved the unit further! With regard to the Allen wrench for attaching the head, my unit came with an Allen wrench. Also, not mentioned in Parker's video, I was pleasantly surprised that the Flycam was delivered with a super nice carry case with a shoulder strap and custom foam protection. As a first time user of a gimbal, I'm very happy and enjoying learning how to use it and excited for higher quality videography! For Parker, thank you for the awesome review and top notch professional analysis! Wow, it is what sold me on my purchase as I'm one of the customers that didn't want debit for a great gimbal.

While it would be cool to see him do a review of a sony camera, he would probably say "I'm not a big fan of sony's color science." He'd probably, just like any person not looking to keep the camera, would just use one of sony's crappy in-box settings without changing the tools that sony gives us to use (knee, black level, hue, color depth, color mode, etc..) which wouldn't be fair. I wouldn't mind maybe sharing my settings to him if he ever considered to review a sony camera. The profile is based off of DG's profile, so it would fit his style.

Yeah sorry have to disagree. I love glidecam; I'm sure its amazing and was worth to you paying $300 more of what it should be because it still is a great product, but realistically I think most people can see that the price is way too expensive even if they love their dgs glidecam. Its awesome that you enjoy it and are getting great use out of it. But for me, at that point I might as well buy a pistol grip gimbal and add another great tool to my gear list.

Yeah, but every hundred or fifty dollars adds up quickly. If that's all we needed in film making, then yeah, it'd be reasonable. But we have to buy much more than a camera, a lens, and a glidecam. We need more options than a 16-35mm lens (I found that out the hard way starting off).

After it's worn in is it worn out? Or when it loosens up will it also fall apart? The flycam my also be a great backup too. Specially at eight or four hundred a pop. Peace

Specially after getting use to that slight friction. Electronics you get what you pay for too. The flycam is excellent for two hundred although the Glidecam is better for eight. It's really about preference and budget. Now with all the creator it' gives the industry competition for our business. Great video Parker!!!!

Put some adhesive foam strips on the shaft of the FlyCam or even out a simple 1/2 screw into the shaft for your thumb to manipulate to adjust for that sticky feeling you’re talking about. Sometimes we gotta modify our equipment to fit our own needs 👍🏻 So far it seems the FlyCam is the real winner when you account for the price. Great review bro!

Don't buy either of these. I own the DGS Glidecam-- was great!..... two years ago... lol. Buy a Zhiyun Crane v2-- Works great with the 1DX II. (Don't buy a Nebula Slant 5100 it's a poorly made product with even worse customer service)

I have a zhiyun crane and still looking to get a flycam. Check out parker's glidecam to zhiyun crane comparison, glidecam still better in some situations and it's quicker to balance

I hear ya, I still own the DGS Glidecam because it has it's place, but it's a wiser choice to buy the zhiyun crane v2 than either of these. The reason-- time, you can get the goods five times faster with the crane, no need for 5 takes on the Glidecam anymore...

i also got ronin then zhiyun etc..but now im thinking to get a gravity stabilizer..not only faster to setup but the overall quality in shots is so much better than electronics

I had the Ronin M... wasn't doing it for me. Then I got the Crane 2... wasn't feeling it. As soon as I picked up the Red King, all the feelings I had of not being satisfied for some reason were gone lol. You can still get silky smooth shots with the glidecam, and it has some major benefits over electronic gimbals👌🏼 for some, it is the creative way to go! and, its cheaper! haha

Well you don't need 5 takes with the glidecam if you're good with it. If anything you just need practice. When I first used a steadicam, I had a good shot maybe 1/5 times, but after you get good, you get the right shot 100% of the time, just like with the zhiyun crane.

I just got the Flycam Redking in the mail. I mounted my Sony a7iii and 16-35mm f4 lens and OHHH MY GOOOOOOOSHHH it is like carrying an elephant. WTF. This is so unreasonable. How am I supposed to use this to film. It's so flippin heavy hahaha. I mean, I'm a 5'11 guy and weigh 170 pounds. I'm not weak, but mannnn wtf. I can't carry this for more than 20-30 seconds without my arm starting to hurt. I'm thinking of returning it

Idk man, I didn't really have much time or experience with it (or any glidecam's, except for a cheapo $50 one a ways back). Idk how parker get's such smooth footage. I try to balance mine the best I can and I get wobble and stuff. It's heavy, but when I used my 24-70 f4 it wasn't thaaaat bad. I think my forearm muscle would get used to it over time. If you are okay with having a quite heavy setup and you are willing to practice and learn to get good with it, maybe give it a try.

All of the Glide Cams take time to get used to. You should not base it on a single test or use. You have to "get used to it". Your arms muscle memory will then kick in and it will get easier.

So cool ! Thank you for comparing those two type of "glidecam" Really really cool to know your sensation ! It make your test true... I got the glidecam xr series.. wanted to switch for a real & big & pro solution, because mine is to tiny, to lightweight... I'll go to the flycam because of the budget. But when I'll get the budget, I'll may think to go on glidecam again for that finesse of the move !
