hi mate I just taken intake manifold cleaned it and same egr and put it back now the van crank but no start at all , checked the pressure sensor that attached to fuel filter with one bolt , looks like the connector on it will come right off but do think could be because of that sensor ?

Awesome vid Dr. I'm waiting on my manifold to ship as we speak. Question- did you have to remove the gas manifold behind the exhaust cooler in order to remove the intake manifold? Do you recommend any tips as well? Thanks again for the content. Your the only one on youtube that provides at least some level of tech detail for the OM651. BTW, for anyone reading this- I highly recommend installing a catch-can between your breather tube.
@drsoot97605 жыл бұрын
Tomasz Kotwica Thank you. Of course pull the EGR cooler and then pull the bypass valve. 4 bolts to remove the valve, 2 of them you can’t see. I suggest having a set of flex head sockets. Also there is a small bracket behind the swirl motor that has to be removed to get the intake out. Those flex heads will come in handy for the bolts on the bottom of the intake to. Torque specs for the intake bolts are 15 N-m with an additional 60 degrees. Hope this helps. I have another one to do this week, so will try to post a video with a few tips and tricks. Great idea with the catch pan.

@@drsoot9760 Excellent, that's exactly what I was wondering a about. Can't wait to get in there. I have 489k on my 2015 as of today. I don't idle much and have a catch-can installed. But the heat of the motor got to the plastic. It was only a matter of time before it gave. Looking forward to more vids Dr. Thanks again!

Tomasz Kotwica 489k? That’s pretty impressive. I enjoy working on the 3.0s and 2.1s. I give the sprinter van a 10 and the ford transit a negative 5.

@@drsoot9760 Dr Soot sir... Couldn't agree more, I'm extremely happy with my 2.1. It's a total workhorse. Except for right now, it's not doing too well. really stumped on this one. My Exhaust and intake temps are climbing and losing power on hills. Seems my DPF may be building faster than it can regen. The problem seems to be growing and my mpg is suffering progressively- Other than looking for leaks on my intake side which it seems I do not have,- what are the usual suspects for sooting? Bad MAF? NOX? Injectors? No CEL on the dash, only P0402- Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive detected. would much rather not take it into a dealer for diagnostics. Any input would greatly help sir.
@drsoot97605 жыл бұрын
Tomasz have you had to do anything to your DPF? Say in the last 250k miles? Also I know in your last comment your planning on doing the intake replacement. Have you been able to do that and pull the EGR cooler? I have seen in the past the coolers start gradually plugging around the 130k mark. All depending on driving habits as well. On to the DPF: of course after a regen the soot is burnt but the ash still remains which in time causes less flow of the exhaust causing your temps to rise. But with that being said I would start with the cooler first before jumping to DPF. I would love to know if your still on your original DPF.

Do you think a breather catch can would have helped reduce the goo?
@drsoot97604 жыл бұрын
Michael Parker Indeed sir it would help. Anything to slow down the amount of oil getting back to the intake. Another thing a lot of people miss is when those engines burn oil that increases the chances of the DPF plugging as well.

Hi there...great video....I’m due to change my imminently...Van’s running 90% of how it should be...safe to carry on until fixed ?? Many Thanks
@drsoot97604 жыл бұрын
Colin Reid Is some what safe. Keep In mind when the van isn’t running the most efficient it does cause more unburnt fuel which leads to more regens.

Another great video my question is can i remove that elbow with throttle body without removing all that stuff
@Bluekouki1231235 жыл бұрын
I have a leak at the throttle body and its making a mess ... looking at the elbow seems like i cant get to the top bolts wherre it bolts to the engine
@drsoot97605 жыл бұрын
Good question. I have changed the throttle valve before without pulling everything off. With that being said it is a pain to get those 4 bolts that hold the valve. Just a suggestion: The EGR cooler isn’t that bad to remove, the 2 bolts underneath are a little tricky. But with the cooler out of the way it will give you the room to pull that elbow. Also with having that off you clean up the mixer tube and elbow. When ordering your parts, there’s an o-ring on the top and bottom of the valve.

So finally did the throttle body gaskets today and cleaned the elbow only to find out my leak is also coming from the intake manifold i didnt heve the new gasket and bolts so i didnt. Dig further its gonna have to wait until i order some parts seems like a common problem on these engines

Hi there.. do any of your 2.1 sprinters burn any oil i never had to add a drop between oil changes now all the sudden i have to add 1-2 quarts in 10 to 15k milles i think i have a blow by issue maybe i have 280,000 milles and had the van since new its a 2015

And also oil coming out of the power steering reservoir through the little vent on top of the cap i never seen that before
@drsoot97605 жыл бұрын
EDIS Osmanovic Wow! Watched your video that is a good bit of blow by. I have not seen this much by blow on any of the I’ve worked on. That is a really bad sign. Is the van running poor? That much by blow typically leads to rebuild. One thing you could check is verify the tube coming off the valve cover to the intake hose isn’t plugged causing to much crank case pressure.
@Bluekouki1231235 жыл бұрын
It runs very nice no noises or anything no smoke i have checked the vent tube seems to be working right there is air blowing out of it

I know this is an old video but having a hell of a time finding any information on these 2.1's I deleted one and cant for the life of me find the egr electrical connector or connector for the swirl valve motor... are they vacuum operated? Thanks for any input you could give
@drsoot97603 жыл бұрын
Those are some tricky buggers to find. The connector for the swirl valve is just behind the fuel filter. The EGR bypass is vacuum operated. The plug for the EGR is located under the EGR valve behind the cooler real pain to get to.

@@drsoot9760 thanks I really appreciate the input, was pulling what little hair I have left out trying to find them! Short of disassembling the whole egr setup and making block off plates

Dr Soot thank you. And this is a Mercedes Benz 2500 Sprinter Van, correct? Do you recall if there was any hissing sound during acceleration associated with the problem?
@drsoot97603 жыл бұрын
The one in the video is actually a 3500 still the same engine in the 2500s. Hissing is definitely the first thing, some I’ve had you really couldn’t hear the hissing had to pressure test to confirm. I done over a dozen of theses intakes, some of them having broken bolts others just the seal is blown out. High heat and plastic just doesn’t mix.

Corey Osborne My first one was around 11 hrs, mostly trying to extract a broken glow plug. I can turn one now in about 4.5 hrs. Some guys I know pull the engine, trust me it can done with it in the truck.
