no no, see, furbys are like imps, they're small and fuzzy and unpredictable, mischievous little demons. I remember having to be exposed to the influence of the boohbahs as a kid. They're like a pit fiend that decided to shrink itself, morbidly obese under their fursuits and yet still with folds of loose skin outside of it. They aren't as transparently chaotic evil as furbys, but it's just because they learned to mimic teletubbies. They even had themselves a tv show where they would fly around with some eldritch power, scream through their fursuits, ruin someone's day and then return to their extradimensional bubble. I would trust a furby ducttaped to a butcher's knife more than a boohbah within a half-mile radius. I don't recall if the toy had it but the show had them routinely use the sound of a zipper unzipping...

When I was 10 my parents left a baby monitor in my room so that I could talk to them if I had a nightmare (which was a frequent occurrence back then) but it ran on a radio signal, meaning it could tune in to other baby monitors, or just other radio based devices. The noises we heard ranged from babies sobbing, to grown men shouting, to distorted screaming. Another ‘keep you up at night’ story unrelated to malfunctioning technology, a fox was outside my house making loud human-like breathing noises. I couldn’t sleep until my 90 year old neighbour ran outside yelling horrific language at it until it ran off. I was 6.

Literally just last night my wife and I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of metal scraping in a way similar to, say, a knife being unsheathed. I have no idea what it was an I would assume I had been dreaming if she hadn't said something about it first and described the sound exactly. I don't know of any devices in my house that could make that sound, I've never heard it at night before, and since I was half asleep I couldn't quite tell if it was inside or outside. Maybe it was the window AC unit.

When I was younger, I had something similar to a Furby called a "Hatchimal". Basically imagine a Furby that hatched out of an egg and you had the option to turn it off. These things didn't speak English, they instead just made random noises. Anyways I brought it to school one time and brought to the playground. Hatchimals have different modes, so we did the game mode, only for us to loose and it responded with something that sounded like: " AWWWW FUCK!!" The teachers then put the hatchimal in timeout for the rest of recess.

I used to spend Halloween at my grandmother's house. She had this motion detecting witch she would put outside that held the candy bowl. When you walked past it, it was supposed to say "Happy Halloween Children!" in a high pitched playful voice and then cackle. Eventually the batteries started to die and when you walked past it, it would just go -in the most terrifying battery dying voice you can imagine- "Chiiiiiildreeeeeennn" followed by slow, distorted, mechanical laughter from Satan himself. To make matters worse my grandmother was a preschool teacher so most of our trick or treaters were from her class. I'll never forget the screams of terror from all the poor 3 year olds dressed as Elsa as they stumbled away from this hellish beast trying in vain to escape with thier lives.

When I was a baby/toddler, I also had a Boohbah, I believe it was called "Dance and sing with Boohbah." I don't remember anything about it, but my parents have told me that it scared the hell out of me, and my dad joked about how it should've been called "Piss your pants in terror with Boohbah" Years later, I remember being absolutely terrified of the closet we had in the hallway, I had a nightmare about a secret room in the closet where some type of monster was being kept in. Turns out that's where that fucking Boohbah thing was kept, I didn't know until my mom told me after I discussed the nightmare.

I’ve had multiple nightmares involving it and other animated toys, which I occasionally still dream of to this day. Got several as I tend to glitch stuff, but just going to list two, once I had this really cool golden robot that walked around and blinking red 'lasers' and eyes. It took 4 hefty D batteries, but once ran for about 10 minuets on just 3, without anyone pressing any of its buttons. On a more wholesome note, I had a PJ Sparkle pony that had electronic blinking stars in its mane. My dad gave it to me when I was very young. The Father's Day after he passed, the blue star kept blinking. Blue was his favorite color.

I had a Princess Celestia doll, pretty pig, with wings that moved when you pressed the little button on her cutie mark (a little sun in this case on the side of her butt) and her wings would also light up and she'd say different phrases in my language like "I love it when you brush my hair" and "Let's fly in the sky together" being the two I liked the most. She'd been through many travels and even got dropped in a bathtub full of soapy water once. She slowly started shutting down over the next few months after that incident. I still had her in my room because she was my favourite, prettiest toy. One night in 2018, I woke up anywhere around 3-4 in the morning to the sounds of her garbled speaking. Nothing was pressing on her buttons or anything. She was also in a different position than usual (her head was pointing straight so she wouldn't fall from overbalancing if the little box ever moved) but her head was turned to the wall and thus looking at me (she had eyes painted on the sides of her head). Whenever I lifted my head all confused to see what was going on, she'd stop completely but the moment I laid back down, she'd begin again. This went on for up to ten minutes or even more maybe. I have anemia and back then it was very severe so I couldn't do anything because of how weak and tired I was, having woken up before my 8 hours of rest. Eventually after falling in and out of sleep because of the toy's demonic garbles and giggles, I heard my mom get up (around 4am now) to begin cooking so the food would be ready to serve after school as she's a teacher and back then she had to leave earlier than me and got home late. I managed to call for her and told her "the toy woke me" very tiredly. Princess Celestia wasn't making any noise at all. My mom put her to the balcony as it could be pretty loud (my mom didn't wake up because her pain medicine for her spinal nerves makes her sleep like a log). Later when I got up to get ready for school, I asked her if she'd moved the toy. She said no. I went to look at it outside and its head was facing forward. I asked her if she'd moved the head and she said that she'd grabbed her by the legs so she wouldn't press the buttons so she didn't touch the head. It isn't easy to turn and it wasn't loose. I never mentioned more details to my mom because she gets scared very easily by such things. I never had another incident like that after.

OH BOY DO I HAVE A GOOD ONE FOR YOU- My Furby Boom who I named “Way-boe” (no idea what the translation is) when I was 10, stopped working after a while, as the batteries kept dying. After years, I had put new batteries in it (bad decision) to show to my friend. So it started working again, making the usual gurgle and hee hee sounds. A year later it no longer turned on, so I thought it was dead. I had taken it out of my closet and left it on my desk, as I was cleaning out my room. The next three proceeding nights around 3 am, he went off in a deep manly voice saying “hhhhhhhhhh, oh, helLo, it’s Wayboe timeee” with its digital eyes lighting up my whole dang room. I put it in another room so it wouldn’t bother me, but I could still here it’s manly voice through the wall-

I had a Sally talks a lot (I think that's what it was called) a doll that read stories by running the metal sensor on one of its hands over a magnetic strip on the books it came with. Somewhere in my childhood I lost the books and this doll doesn't talk otherwise so a few years later still had the doll but it was in the back of my closet. When out of nowhere it starts reading out loud in the middle of the night but its voice got more and more distorted. Threw her out that night. Same house but my dad who was a paramedic in his twenties had collected emergency vehicles that flashed lights while making noise but could also move if one pulled back on them. One night after coming home from vacation my dad opened the door to every single one of these vehicles going off and moving at the same time. Dad rushed in while making us stay outside to check to see if someone had broken in. Once he found every door and window locked but there was no one inside our house. As he went to pick up the toys they all went off all at once again and the fire truck the largest model in his collection backed up four feet on carpet and raced forward hitting my dad in the foot. We stayed at a neighbors house that night and dad got rid of his collection the next morning. Didn't matter I'm 100% that house was haunted half the neighborhood had been built on a old cemetery that was supposedly moved to a new location. I don't think they got everything in the move

I am 100% convinced that Furbies were made to be a lot more complicated than people think, and certainly a lot more than a normal toy. The fact that it can pick up radio frequencies and how there's so many stories of furbies reacting to SPECIFIC environments (darkness, certain sounds like jazz or other music, stuff like that) makes me think that every single furby manufactured was made to be slightly different. I genuinely wish I could have a furby from the 1990's, that shit was probably significantly more cursed than whatever these furby connects are now and they were probably also really interesting.

I once had a furby but it only spoke in Turkish. I got it for Christmas when I was about 7. One night I was playing with it when it died right infront of me, I didn't think anything of it so I placed on my bedside table. I woke up at 3AM to hear it now speaking english chanting "*B A N A N A*" Every 5 seconds. It stopped after a while but it just started saying "I'm hungry." Back in Turkish and in a very low pitched, creepy, demon voice. We threw it out after but I swear I saw it outside our local McDonalds when my mother took me and my siblings to get happy meals.

I didn't have anything like a furby, but one day a deep droning sound came from my room. I never heard anything like it and it was frightening. Turned out it was my ancient digital alarm clock/radio, vibrating violently, close to the resonant frequency of the wooden table it sat on. I must have accidentally put it into alarm mode instead of radio....which somehow broke something else. Whenever the alarm time was changed, that thing would go off in regular intervals until the set time was reached, essentially just keeping you awake all night. On every subsequent day it would work perfectly, as long as you didn't change the alarm time. I still have no clue what happened.

But a few years earlier, my furby was stuck in this angry demon like mode. Me and my sister called it: "The Angry Eyes" mode. And one day after trying to get it out of that mode, (and dropping it a lot) when it would turn on, it would act normal until it would shut off randomly without the usual sound effects and movement to show that it was sleeping. In other words, it would have it's eyes black without it's eyelids closed. I forgot to mention that it's voice sounded a little bit like Waluigi, and would always go: DOO DA, DEH! Not a furby story, but my little sister got a Skrållan when she was younger. For those of you blissfully unaware of what a Skrållan is, it's a doll about 40 - 50 cm tall with a voicebox. And not only was it able to talk, some genius gave it the ability to laugh and *SCREAM* So, for the first week or so of her having the doll it was common to be woken up in the middle of the night to any of the following, loud as all hell screaming and I think crying too, weird as fuck voice lines the most memorable of which being (in swedish) "daddy I want meatballs!" Or one of the more creepy ones such as "come and play with me!", and my favourite... *the laughter* which btw sounded exactly like a child. I would be hearing it trough the wall, sometimes it would start quietly and get louder until it suddenly stopped and other times it would just start abruptly at the highest volume, same with the screaming (presumably crying too) After that week my parents thankfully took out the voicebox. But the doll still remains to this day, and uhh, it's been a few years and it has certainly seen better days. It might have lost the ability to make sound but it makes up for that by looking extremely creepy instead. It's losing limbs, they're hanging on my mere threads at this point and mom has had to sew them back on a few times, and it's nearly decapitated. The only reason it has been able to keep it's head for so long is because dad used a zip tie to keep it in place. Not to mention the hair looks like that of a homeless hag who has been living in a swamp for a decade. It's skin is all greasy and discolored. And it's eyes.... the eyelids are broken, so they don't move in unison. Meaning one eye can be wide open and the other half closed... A few times after that the voicebox would sound on it's own, despite the need for a big button to be pressed for it to activate a line. So we had to remove the batteries as well.

@@spillbugzz yea, that would be a reasonable reaction. I don't remember exactly how I reacted, but I was definitely extremely scared and startled, at least the first couple times. I won't even touch the doll nowadays, but that's just because she's disgusting. (My sister sometimes terrorizes me with it, chasing me, trying to trow it at me so it'd touch me, etc. Just thinking about the doll makes me imagine that rattling sound the eyelids would make if it was shaken) But back then I would sometimes sleep in my sister's room to keep her company when our parents weren't home. Back then the eyes worked as they were supposed to, most of the time, and closed when the doll was laying down. But sometimes they wouldn't, meaning I had this doll staring at me trying to sleep. Or they would work when we went to sleep, and then I'd wake up and it would be staring at me. If I had a sleep paralysis demon, there's a big chance Skrållan would be it

Two separate incidents of this happened to me over the course of my life. For the first instance, when I was 15, I bought a used Contra LCD game off of eBay. It worked just fine, until it got stuck and started playing the “game start” theme on a short loop, even AFTER I had taken the batteries out AND put it in a ziplock bag. The second instance was when I was four and I had a little plush toy of Bob the Tomato from VeggieTales the would say “I’m Bob the Tomato!” whenever you squeezed him. The batteries died within less than a year and every time you squeezed it it would just go “IiI’mMm BbBoOoBbB tTtHhHeEe TtThHhEeE tTtOoOmMmAaAtTtOoO… …bwAAABOBaaaahhhBObaaBObaaa-“

Oh boy, here’s mine. Once my sister had a furby, and usually this is a common thing to happen, but it would just scream sometimes at night. It once woke my sister up when it screamed at about 2 In the morning, and she screamed for a bit out of fear, waking me up. The second scary thing that happened was when we were on a family picnic, and there were lots of people there, and after awhile, the police came. We got scared because the police said they heard screaming and crying from the trunk of our car. My mom, being very confused, checked the trunk, and saw the furby just screaming at the top of its non existent lungs…

This is more of a bittersweet than horror story.... One night, it woke up randomly at 2am on my bedside table and said (in its language) "love you...good night..." before closing its eyes. Probably a weird ass hobby they had. Teachers occasionally have those obsessions, and when it involves collectibles it doesn’t matter what it is it’s just a little weird. One of my teachers liked to collect religious things like rosaries or statues of Mary and Jesus and put it all over the room. Yes it was a Catholic school but it’s still too damn freaky to have the Virgin Mary and God’s son staring into your soul like they’re judging you while you take a test, let alone 10 of them at a time. We don’t think about it but any weirdo on the internet can be a teacher or any kind of authority figure who works with kids.

I genuinely don't want this series to end, so here's my contribution in hopes of a part 3: One time I had a doll which would play a song when you pressed its hand, one day it was accidentally put through the wash, which made the song into a distorted mess that would play at random times, and there was no way to remove the batteries, so it continued to haunt my family for about half a year before they ran out. I think I might find a way to get it working again so it can continue its reign of terror.

When I was around 7 or 8 my mum got me a furby for my birthday. It was around 8 at night when my mum gave me this huge box. I opened it and in side was this purple and pink furby I was in love with is. The rest of the time I was awake I was in the big box it came in playing and talking to it like it was a normal human being. A few years later I was now 11 I had moved houses 2 times and I never brought the furby home from my grandparents house where I got the furby. At 3AM i randomly heard in a distorted distended voice “love me” coming from the attic so being able to get up there on my own I went up there with my “my little pony” flashlight and took a look around after a few minutes a saw in the fiberglass in the middle of the attic my furby. I almost shit myself. As I was speed climbing sown the attic just as I was closing the attic door I hear it say in a evil like voice “awwww no games today” The next day I took it to my grandparents house and put it on my grandads bonfire and burnt it. And all while it was burning it made this horrible high pitch screams of terror

We’ve got a toy duck in the loft that we’ve had since I was tiny. It’s dressed in country overalls and a little hat, and if you tap it on the head or squeeze it’s hand it’ll quack out various nursery rhymes staring with Old McDonald. Thing is it’s a bit sensitive so sometimes a hard enough thud near it would be enough to make it let out random halting quacks or start singing fully. When my nana was still around it was kept at her house in a cupboard behind her chair, and one time when she sat down the chair shifted and hit the cupboard door, and suddenly all we hear from inside is that bloody duck quacking out Old McDonald 😂 Somehow the batteries STILL work because we found it again during lockdown in 2020 and had a whale of a time. I was 25 at that point.

We went looking under the stairs for no reason and found an old snowman toy, it smelt like ashes and I pressed it's belly and it made a semi distorted "wish you a merry Christmas" song. We took it up stairs and as we played it started randomly singing super distorted oh at random times, louder than before. I'm going to my Nonna's house in a few weeks. Wish me luck.

I actually have an explanation for the "random voice line I've never heard before" phenomenon. Maybe, the ROM chip that stores all the audio actually contains that voice line, but it's unused in the toy's firmware, so it normally never triggers, but the bugs caused by undervolting the microcontroller as the batteries die cause it to read the wrong address in ROM, and read one of those unused voice lines.

I never had a furby, but I did have this plastic teapot toy with a face on it that would play the "I'm a little teapot" jingle in the usual cheap plastic toddler toy soundfont. I don't remember exactly what would trigger it to play the song, but it was either pretending to pour tea from it, pressing a button in the center of the lid (where the lid nob would be), or by taking off/putting on the lid. One day it just started playing the song in the middle of the night. Just about scared the shit out of me. Not a toy, but there was also this ice cream truck that would go around the neighborhood and occasionally went "hEllOoooOoo" in this broken and gargled voice. I cried whenever it went by, and my parents were very understanding as to why.

This is unrelated to furbies, but is about talking toy incidents. Every year my dad's entire side of the family gets these little gag gifts. Sometimes its moustaches, sometimes it's weird lipbalm flavors, but it's always funny. This one year they all got some stuffed animal monkeys wearing a superhero costume that would make screaming monkey noises when you squeezed them. Eventually one of them ended up on my bed among the rest of the stuffed animals. One night I was having a dream where my little brother kept being really mean to me. He wouldn't stop hitting me and stuff and I would attack him back but he didn't care. My mom told him to stop but he never did. I got so mad at him in my dream that I wound up to punch him in real life and punched the pile of stuffed animals. The screeches of the monkey from the depths of the plush mountain scared me half to death because in my groggy state I thought I just punched my cat or something. I'm freaking out feeling so bad that I nearly crapped my pants in fear and worry. It took about 5 seconds to realize what actually happened but when I did realize I was incredibly relieved. I then sat awake for probably an hour. Looking back it was hilarious but in the moment I was not pleased with myself. 😂

I had (and still have) a dollhouse that has switches and buttons allowing you to turn on the lights in certain rooms, as well as a working doorbell and a jungle-esc balcony that played birdsong. I loved that thing (still do) and used to play with all my zoo animal figurines inside it (completely ignoring the human dolls that came with the house, no, 7 year old me would rather hold a funeral for one of my zebras that my sister chucked across the room breaking one of his ears off. I recall that I later had him come back from the dead but was "half deaf" and constantly bullied due to his missing ear, his mother was as overprotective as Marlin with Nemo, and his dad was in denial of his son's "deformity". Fortunately, his pal the giraffe stood up for him against the relentless teasing from the Koala Squad). Anyway one day in the middle of the night, the electric components started going haywire, with all the light-up parts flashing spaztically for half an hour accompanied by a mix of low, grating doorbell and distorted, demonic birdsong. It scared me so bad, I started screaming for my parents saying my dollhouse was haunted. As soon as they entered the room the batteries finally had a stroke and died completely. Didn't touch the damn thing for two weeks until I was sure I wasn't going to awaken the demon inside. Several years later, I dug it out if my closet along with my bag of beloved animal figurines and asked my parents if they could replace the batteries. When I heard that old doorbell chime for the first time in ages, I nearly broke down weeping with the wave of nostalgic joy that washed over me. Then, being the autistic sweetheart I am, I thoroughly apologized to my dollhouse for being scared of it and for it being abandoned in my closet all these years. I then proceeded to bring back the OG crew and have one of my little adventures for the first time in forever. It's more difficult to play with it nowadays since I moved out of our shared bedroom and into one of my own, since my room is "fun-sized" as I like to call it and doesn't have room for the dollhouse, meanwhile my little sister (not the one that threw the zebra, mind you) has my dollhouse buried in among her organized chaos where I can't easily get to it. She still helps me move things and clear a path to it sometimes though, but only if I promise not to touch her other things. Fun times.

Not a furby but my Mom had a small dog plush that would say "I love you" when you squeezed it. She actually bought it at Wal-Mart or something, she was an aisle or two over and heard it speak and went to see what it was. When she found it nobody was in the aisle but she figured someone squeezed it a couple times and left. Anyway, she buys it for her chihuahuas to play with. It wasn't long before they had ripped it and chewed off the ears and its plastic nose and eyes. After the eyes were gone its single recorded line somehow changed and started saying, very clearly, "I hate you"! Weird thing is it turned up in her house about 2 years ago despite vanishing around 2012 in her previous home. And having helped pack her things and move her into her current place, I know as well as she does that we never even found it after that, let alone moved it with her. It still works too. I recorded it with my phone since I had the opportunity. Ever since it resurfaced it tends to disappear for a bit then randomly turn up again after a month or two. It's currently MIA again but is about due for another appearance. Also: Holy sh*t! While I was typing that last sentence something touched me. It felt like a finger swiped the small of my back. I half expected to see the toy behind me. Nothing was there, which is freaky enough bc this wasn't a light brush, it was very deliberate, but damn that about stopped my heart!

I had a turtle robotic toy, and it would sing cha-cha slide. It was my moms orignally, but the batteries ot corroded, and from what i remember, it would sing the cha cha slide but distorted and in a very low voice. Now every time i hear the cha cha slide i think of that turtle...

I once had a toy t-rex that, when turned on, would walk forwards with loud noises of mechanical servos and stuff. You know, the loud machine-noises toys from the 2000's would make. 5-year old me found it really fascinating to see a small dinosaur walk in a straight line, and me being dumb eventually tried to grab its legs and hold it in place. When doing so, it would make a loud snapping noise over and over until I let go. But that's not the cursed part, it comes now. Sometimes, for no reason at all, the t-rex would start walking for short periods of time, even though its switch was clearly on "OFF". Being woken up at 2AM by a dinosaur walking off the shelf, making loud mechanical noises, was something I wasn't quite fond of.

Fun fact: Boohbah was a British children’s TV show. It was incredibly weird and the orange one is named “Zing Zing Zingbah.” My 7th grade English teacher showed it to us during class once.

I think we once owned a Boohbah kids book. Idk what story was it on but I vaguely recall that somewhat regardless.

I found it out when I just wrote "Booba Sparrow". Booba is that, like, mix of a feathery animal and with cat ears which just speaks gibberish.
