A few of you had mentioned the metric dial indicator, I didn't realize it was metric when I had purchased it off eBay. The reading was technically off .020 of an inch but as you can see it still ran good. But basically you can still use the way shown to time your engine. Thanks fer pointin' that out, sometimes we overlook a thing or 2 every now and again but y'all keep us on our toes. Now there's yur dinner!!

Taryl, your videos are as far as I can tell really the best! Entertaining and educating, I've seen them all and really love them! That little detail-no big deal, since I'm living here in Germany for the most time of my life I'm totally used to the metric stuff and it jumped right in my eyes, so don't worry to much about it, the procedure was explained perfect, even I prefer setting timing for ignition or the camshaft by angle on old motorcycles, but even they are no spaceshuttles...hehehe

Hello Dasche, Yeah it's a neat thing huh? I fixt a ladyfriends Champion generator, turned out she just turned off ign. gas gunked up the carb and mag got wet. Worked on it on the tailgate of my truck, cleaned carb out at kitchen table, and got it running again. did this back in the '70's and I began to remember this is a pretty good hobby.

Taryl ...I've been in many of the Tecumseh engines ( mostly 6-8 HP ) and found a vault of knowledge following along with your rebuilds. The Tecumseh carb is a fickle rascal , and is loaded with many land mines. I picked up a few tips from you , and thank you for them. Drink a Hamm's on me and I'll pay you for it when I meet you a Portland, Ind. 2020. COLDBEAR.

Thank you very much for sharing this total rebuild. I watched both Parts 1&2. Currently working on at least five of these 5HP motors, single and twin shafts both. Newer and older. I suspect that I may have another 5-6 more. At least one has the CB points. Got to finish all before the lawnmower season wakes up here in Toronto, Canada.

Dad had a John Deere Tiller with a Tecumseh Engine. I recently dropped it off with a man that does small engine repairs as a hobby and told him to take his time with it, and make sure it's right because I have not a clue as to how to rebuild one myself. I've rebuilt several engines, but never small engines, but after watching this video, I'm kinda wishing I hadn't dropped that tiller off with him. Thinking I might go pick it back up and do it myself.

The trick I learned for seating the valve seat without the tool is to use the blunt side of a drill bit. You don't get the little pip to hold it in place, but you just gotta be careful not to drop it. It's worked for me every time. I also usually just use compressed air to blow the old seat out rather than trying to dig it out.

Back in the 70's my cuz Roach rider had a 5 HP tecumseh with a liting coil on it. I was into electronix at school and made up a full wave rectifier, using a small bike battery, we could keep up a steady briteness as the battery was floating on the line. The diodes of course acting as a 1-way valve or as Taryl sed a sort of check valve, where juice could only flow one way.

Maybe you can shed some light on a 2 stroke Tecumseh I own. The tag on it reads T-642-04B and under that it reads 5966452. My dilemma is I haven't been able to decide it or find parts. I need a connecting rod and full set of gaskets. The blower housing has Commando 500. It is an outboard engine. Ran great then I over revved it and the rod started knocking. Haven't fired it up since to avoid more potential damage. Many info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the videos and the knowledge you spread.
