When I first started papercrafting, I didn't have a penny to my name as a single mom is 2 young boys, so I had to check garage sales for supplies. I also had to save up money to buy things on big sales or clearance sections at my local craft stores. After 20 years of creating, I've probably got too much supplies now, but I challenge myself to use up older supplies.... so i can buy more!!!! I mostly make cards now and donate all of them to my church, nursing homes or to teachers.

Really good advice, I'm more like "spit on a griddle". Oh, I want to do that, oh now I want to that. I do have lots of supplies and my favorite is paper crafting. I also have a craft room that I use when the weather is good (upstairs no heat or cooling). But I still end up on my kitchen counter. Just the right height cause I like to stand . I'm trying to give my self some grace with it all. I'm just having fun.

I need to remember that the people I watch on KZfaq are doing this as their job. They need all the things, that why they have them. They have supporters that might provide them with product free (NOT ALWAYS) but sometimes. I don't need everything to be able to craft. I need to take their ideas and apply them to the thing I have. Don't be a collector of thing ...use them!!! Use what I have collected. I love you ideas for these Mondays talks. You are one of the first youTubers I started to follow. If you say it then it the way it should be. Thanks for all you do!!!!

When I started scrapbooking I bought all the things and found that half the stuff I bought I never used. I also had trouble matching supplies for a cohesive layout. My advise to people who are interested in beginning a project like this is to buy a kit to start with. It will give you the basic supplies, everything will go together, its economical and you can try it to see if you like it before spending a bunch of money. And bonus if you do enjoy it you can always add other supplies as you go.

I agree! It sounds so simple right? With a few basic tools (scissors, craft knife, ruler, cutting surface, glues), a kit is a great way to go. I wish I realized they existed way back when. I guess I had been living under a rock or something. LOL

Fantastic video! I'd like to add you should always be ready to change from where you started. I started card making, as a retired florist who needed a way to stay creative and relevant in a new part of the country. From where I started 7 years ago, I have slowly turned it into a business (not my intention at first), and have, with help from your videos, realized how much I love folios, albums and 3D paper crafts. Thank you for everything you teach.

I’ve always been a crafter since I was a child. Mom taught me to crochet, another lady taught me to knit. I’ve done latch hook, needle work such as needle point, cross stitch, and embroidery. I do diamond painting too. I’ve found crafts to be rewarding and relaxing as well. I got a Cricut Maker as a gift from my husband, just after he bought me a sewing machine in 2017. Needless to say I had to pick one to use first. I picked the Cricut. I made all the mistakes, bought all the pretty paper not knowing what to do with it. Thank goodness I found KZfaq. I found Melody Lane, soon after I started looking on KZfaq, and fell in love with her personality and creativity. Through her I found Maymay Made It. I wasn’t interested in stamping so didn’t stay too invested in watching EVERYTHING you posted. I’ve learned a lot and decided to get into stamping. So glad I knew exactly where to go, right here! Thank you for your excitement about bringing us so many things, crafting instructions, a crafting family, and your love of our Lord.

I fell into paper crafting when we moved out here to the States from the UK, and a friend introduced me to Scrapbooking. All I had was a fold up table at the side of a bed in a bedroom. I invested in a paper trimmer, which is still my favorite tool, and by the way, I am still using the same one which I have had for almost 20 years. My time for crafting was when everyone went to bed, and I could sit in peace and quiet. My mom tried to introduce me to cards, and I resisted. When I finally tried it, I couldn't stop. Now I am retired, and it is just my husband and I at home. We made a dedicated space for my crafting and his computer. He did a great job fitting it out on a budget. Like most crafters, we used Ikea drawers and cubes. I now have a new crafting hobby. I collect paper, stamps, dies, inks and pastes!!!! I have so much stuff I am overwhelmed. I am in the process of clearing out a lot of stamps and dies I don't use. I have so many cards that I haven't sent, and, as my skill and love of techniques has grown, the ones I originally made I no longer want to send. So, I am going back to my roots, and taking up scrapbooking once again. I have so many photos of my grandchildren that need to be memorialized. My advice to new crafters, put these two tools on your Christmas list. A paper trimmer, one with the ability to score paper, and a MISTI, or other stamp platform. You will not regret it.

I fell in love with pretty paper when I was introduced to scrapbooking. I bought SO MUCH paper and supplies but never did a lot of scrapbooking! Finally I figured out I like the “smaller canvas” of a card. Now I struggle to use some of my paper because the scale is wrong for cards. 🤷‍♀️

I was blessed, I started papercrafting by being invited to a stamping group. The ladies were really helpful in what tools I should start with. I was rather delusional, in that I thought if I just got a heat gun, embossing powder, ink and cardstock, I could use the stamps from the other ladies... that fell by the wayside fast. I LOVE vintage, so I bought a ton of stamps in that theme/genre. I then made a LOT of impulse purchases... which I regret doing... I bought a ton of stuff that I never used.

You asked "what do you want to do with it?" (...keep it, gifts, sell product, etc...) I have been scrapping for 22 years and this question continues to confound me! I very much want to make scrapbooks for myself, but I constantly get involved and gravitate towards making gifts for other people. I have never been able to truly answer that question for myself in a workable way.

When I started crafting I started with beads. My supply box was a small plastic box. As I went along and purchased tool and supplies my box kep getting bigger. My husband would tease me every time my box got bigger that he was going to add a room for me as we lived in a 900 square foot home. He was great supporter of my craft. Now I am into paper crafting and I do have my room. Thanks for sharing you knowledge. Love your videos. Hugs❣️

Thank you, Maymay, for this wise advice on beginning crafting! I started with the desire of making a scrapbook for my first grandchild. I did well for the first three children and then started making cards for church which grew dramatically! So much so, that I wasn't able to complete the next grandchild's baby scrapbook and the poor 5th grandbaby has one page complete in hers and she is now 9 yrs old!!! At first, I mainly bought what was needed, but as I watched more paper crafting videos I thought I needed everything that was anywhere near my budget. Now, I have 2 small bedrooms crowded with crafting supplies! I'm trying to slow down on watching those videos now. I'll never get to it all, but I have anything and everything that I MIGHT ever need!!! Well, until the next video.....!

Maymay, I am loving this series! You are so right in saying you can go overboard by thinking you need everything at once and before you realize it you have enough paper and tools to last several lifetimes. :) I began my papercrafting journey with a card kit and have never looked back. Folding, cutting and designing cards is my happy place. I also love to make 3d dioramas out of paper. I am lucky enough to have a crafting room but that is even getting crowded so my 2023 goal is to use up most of my paper before I invest in more (except for any specialty paper I may need). There I go justifying a purchase already. :) I am really looking forward to your future videos in this series. Thank you for sharing.

When my mother died in 2007, she left a drawer full of red rubber stamps. I had never stamped before but couldn’t bring myself to throw them away. I watched KZfaq videos on how to use them and started creating greeting cards. I now make them for family, friends, my church people and for charitable organizations. This past year I made and sent out right at 600 cards. I would never have started enjoying this paper craft if not for the supplies that my dear mother left behind.

Thank you Maymay... what I have discovered I need to work on is kinds of stamps & dies, and papers/packs to get. How to think about it and what to look for. I did that thing where you watch a video and I had to get the same things. That did not last a very long time, but I do tend to purchase in a way that allows me to do a single project at time, which is limiting me. Right now I believe a good 85% of my stamps, dies, and sentiments are all Christmas themed. I would like to transition to a wider variety. For instance. I have no specific Valentine's Day stamps/dies or sentiments. I could probably come up with something, but the point is, I'd like it to be easy to realize oh yeah I have that and where/what it is vs. thinking 'hmmmm' what the heckfire do I have and it's certainly not grouped together. I have a Bo Bunny sentiment group that I can make it say Happy Valentine's Day, but I don't have any longer sentiments for the inside... you get my drift? No matter what you decide to cover, I am already learning even though I've been doing cards and tags for a long time. Just been very basic with the designs until the past 3ish years (incl. lockdown).

I started with paper, black ink, and 2 rubber stamps. It was years before I bought a Cuttlebug. Before the Cuttlebug, I used scissors to cut circles, after tracing with a can, and basically anything to emboss that did not require the machine. Now, years later, I have a room full of tools, stamps and paper. I enjoy the process and send several cards a year. Sometimes I would like to go back to the days when money was not there and I didn't have so much. I think I was more creative with what I had, rather than searching for the idea on Pinterest or a video.

Great Video and suggestions. I learn something from you at every video! Organization Tip for beginners: I wish I had made a catalog of my tools, such as stamps and dies, etc. I remember so much agonizing with my first rubber stamp purchase. After about 5 years of collecting, I got a message from a customer service person after I had ordered the 5th set of the same "leaf" stamps. Liked it so much I just kept buying it! The customer service rep was awesome and let me send back 4 of the sets and gave me a credit. I still laugh about that but learned a good lesson. Now I keep a list, by manufacturer, name and number of each stamp or die set I buy (either in Quicken or Excel that can be searched) or in a storage option for each company for instance. (I have a Maymay box) I also have a 3-ring binder with samples (by theme) so I can remember what I have. Each set is labeled in the catalog for where it is stored for quick access. BTW, that first stamp I purchased was in 1983!

I keep my own little tool box on one of my kitchen shelves. I always know where they are and so does everyone in my house. They also know they better return it to same place. Lol. Made same mistakes when I started scrapbooking

I love the positivity and encouragement you offer in your videos. I have a "crafty corner" at home where I can just lose myself. Crafting has become a way for me to release my stress, and it has helped me to learn that I can do more than just work. (I am a bit of a workaholic, hence my stress! Haha) I don't always know what I'm going to do with the crafts that I make, but I know that I am a happier person when I craft. Thank you for being part of my crafty journey!

Enjoying this series. This may be on your agenda already, but maybe when talking about products , talk about how they could possibly be used across other crafts even though it may obvious to some but not others.

My goal is to start a photo album papercrafting business and I have bought a lot of supplies. I have taken over my dining room so I have plenty of space. Here’s my problem I work a full-time job and most days I work 10+ hours and my weekends are taking care of my family and housework so my time is limited. I am only able to craft a little now. If I could quit my job and craft full time I would. Hoping and praying it will all work out for me.

I loved this video and all I learned about you. I have been stamping for over 25 years and have made mistakes buying tools but you move on from that . I love to create cards . Clean and simple is my style…..not a lot of fru-fru. I still have a lot of stuff in my stash but I know I will get to it “the next time “ I stamp. Thanks again for the enlightening video. I’m looking forward to the next one.

I have been a part-time crafter for most of my life. Several years ago, I wanted to try paper craft. I love it. I too needed to slow my mind and it works! My biggest mistake was buying up paper pads that I thought I needed. Now my challenge is to use them in my makes. It’s hard to find time to craft most days, but as others have said, you need to make time, even if it’s just 30 minutes. I enjoy watching your videos and learning, while laughing with you all during crafter after shows, while I craft. You guys are my crafting buddies on my schedule, so I love you for that!

Re: the big craft room -- I remind myself those craft room tours are not like my craft space -- they're more like MayMay's store tours. It's their business! A lot of their products are given to them by the company so they have All The Things. Re: budget -- I also have to remind myself they are paid when I buy something. Not saying they don't deserve to get paid! Just saying our wonderful YT video crafters are like the midnight infomercials of yesteryear. That means I Don't Need Everything they're using. I enjoy using my creativity to find a workaround! 😊

Love your ideas. I love paper folding. My paper hoard is sitting there waiting for me to do it. I do not have any fancy machines or gizmos. My focus is crazy fold cards. Which I have made several. I also have a hoard of ribbon and fabrics. I have so many ideas for but never take time to do them as I am so overwhelmed.

I really enjoyed this video! Thank you for taking the time to post it. I used to be a big time crafter with a blog and even an online craft magazine. I put all that aside to focus on being a mom to our sweet little boy. Tides have changed and here’s where I am now. Our little boy (16) is getting more and more independent but my sweet Daddy (89) who lives with us needs almost constant companionship. I’ve set up a little cart with all my crafting supplies and a TV tray (just like your cousin!) and I sit with my dad for hours on end crafting my little heart out and watching every Maymaymadeit video I can find. I can’t tell you how much it meant to find you and how much joy you’ve brought me.

Thank you for your great advice! I have been paper crafting for decades, but I still appreciate your advice. We are planning to downsize this year, but I will still have a craft room. As you talk about what is essential, it helps me plan how I will purge and set up my new craft space. ❤

Love this series, yes I have collected many, many products over the years and I make sure that I use them all, but the ideas come from watching videos, and my head is full of things to make, thank you for the time you take to explain not only how to do things but how not to as well, saves loads of time. Love watching your channel, although we will never meet, you all feel like friends x

Hi May May. I love this series. I have done everything you talked. I basically still just want to buy everything that’s pretty. LOL, but I have learned to rein myself in. Partly it’s space. I do have a craft room, but the space isn’t unlimited. It’s not like Doctor WHO’s that’s “bigger on the inside”. I wish! Thanks for the video.

Before making my first quilt last September, I watched a multitude of videos, falling in love with every line of fabric and every new tool. I resisted the urge to impulse purchase, instead I narrowed my must halves down and only splurged on the material. I could collect fabric like no ones business ( fabric shopping reminds me of my mother), but I have to reign in that impIuse. Before Christmas, I decided to start paper crafting, so I watched a ton of your videos. Your favorite tool video and your Trimmer Trouble video were very helpful! Thx for all your help in this area. I decided I wanted to finally use the scrapbooking paper and albums I have had for the last 22 years, but I have now fallen in love with your stamps and it's going to take a ton of prayer to keep me from accumulating too much too fast. My lack of dedicated space and limited budget help keep me in check😉 Love your videos, I hope to make it up there sometime, your crafting in the country looked awesome! I loved the location and the view from the porch. Can't wait for your next video! Thx and hello to Vinny, Shannon, all the crew! Kisses to your girls at home, loved seeing them in your home videos.

Thank you for this series. I had an a-ha moment today during this video. For this season of life, I realized I don't have interest in making cards (which I thought I had to do to be a paper crafter), but I do want to make Folios to capture memories of my kiddos as they grow. I'm going to start focusing in on that one specific part of paper crafting this year rather than spread myself so thin trying to do everything. Thank you MayMay.
