I am a retired mechanic. These cars were out for only a couple of years before I retired and I never had a chance to put a belt on one. This is about the most incredible videos that I've seen and so accurate. I have already done one after I retired and I know it is a long job and now I'm getting ready to do my second one. It's been awhile since I've done one and I'm glad you are refreshing my mind because I am 60 years old and still messing with cars but not as much. A lot of people out there don't understand how hard it is for us mechanics to work on cars and we try to get them done as quick as we can without harming our self. Thank you so much for this video's

Thank you kindly for the vids on this. Main problem I have had so far is getting that pully off. Regular 3 jaw pullers just don't seem to cut it, main problem being keeping a straight pull. Tried for 2 days with regular pullers, so a word of advice, just go get a loaner or buy the Chrysler specific one. Even with it I was starting to worry about it coming off, but it did the trick.

This is bar none, the best instruction video if have found to be worth watching. I'm not an ASE certified mechanic, but i have common sense enough to try pretty much anything, and do so. Being able to access information that, in some cases are only known by certified mechanics is priceless. Watching this mechanic is beyond priceless, do to the fact that he knows how to explain things without continuously repeating himself. Very thorough and direct. I don't even own a Pt, I was checking to see what it all entailed for a friend. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Many thanks Gary. It was a video that I had been wanting to do for a while. Too much wrong info on this engine and this repair out there on the internet and wanted to clear it up for everyone. Thanks for checking out all the parts of the video and for the comment. Make sure to subscribe!

I probably wouldn't have attempted this without your very comprehensive video. The repair was time consuming, but a complete success thanks. The straight edge part gave me some trouble, using a brightly colored string worked really well.

Hey thanks so much for these videos I'm having to change water pump on an 02 pt 2.4 and going to also do timing belt this has helped me so much. I was just needing to know where to put the jack with the block of wood under the motor to support it? I def don't want to put it in the wrong place and mess something up. Could you please help me out with that? I'd be even more grateful. Again thank you for taking the time to show us this without expecting money. its people like you that help out so many of us that can't afford taking it to a mechanic and paying hundreds if not thousands. I'm not a mechanic but every car and truck I've owned i do most the fixing if something breaks and i do all maintenance to keep them running. This video is by far the best one in you tube explaining this fix. Thanks again man
@MotorCityMechanic

Seth the good guy Thanks Seth for the kind words! As far as jacking up the engine....the engine has an aluminum pan so I just put the block of wood under the oil pan itself and then the jack. That of course is after you have the vehicle on jack stands. Glad to see someone taking on the repairs themselves. Keep in mind....this repair isnt easy by no means so take your time and if need be....ask all the questions you wish. I know grown men at the dealership that I work at that are techs and they dont want to do this repair, even on their own vehicle! I love to see them come in the door. Your right....some websites charge for answers and they dont even show you a video. I tried to make sure I covered all the steps without rushing through it. Thats the reason for 7 parts....because it takes so long and plus I give you a drink/bath room break between each episode so that I dont lose your attention. Make sure to subscribe and help spread the word by sharing these videos with others. Thanks again for the question and comment. Make sure to enjoy the rest of your weekend

MotorCity Mechanic Is there a special Chrysler tool required to press the balancer back on? Or will the generic press kit available at the auto parts stores work?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 9 жыл бұрын
GSNCLN Thanks for the question. A generic installer will work fine. Best way to tell that you have the correct one is to take the balancer bolt with your to the store to match up the threar size and pitch. The installer needs to be longer then the bolts as well. You may be able to use the tool loaner programmer at your local parts store as well. I install it different and some frown upon my method but 17 year of working on these 4 cylinders hasnt shown me any problems with my method. I use the same method on the 2.0 and 2.4. Make sure to take some time to enjoy the rest of the memorial day weekend

This guy is a good mechanic. You probably wont experience one as good as he is, so be prepared for cutting corners. There is a very good chance if your paying for a water pump and timing belt job you will only get the timing belt done in some shops. By the time the water pump fails you wont be able to prove it was never replaced and the shop only loses a customer. They have plenty more so they dont worry about it. Or you sell the vehicle (remaining one of their customers) and the new owner gets a water pump failure and has to pay for the timing belt to be replaced once again taking off pretty new parts and replacing them once again with brand new ones. The new mechanic is going to "assume" the pump failure was caused by high miles recommending belt and pump replacement. Seeing the fairly new parts once getting it opened up, believing they just faired well for as many miles the car has on it. Of course, unless you have receipts from the previous owner, then it is possible to save a little money. Not much, just the cost of new parts in comparison to labor. People dont like to let receipts go now because of personal information contained. All because the job was never completed, to begin with. I'm about to tear into one now with a noise under the cover. !0 to 1 this is going to be the case. People sometimes pay for the job and get none of it done. Then, there is just plain neglect. 0_o

Its one of those things that you "trust" that they will do the right repair. But you never know unless you do it yourself. One thing....you can actually see a bit of the waterpump at the front of the engine so you know if you see a nice new grey/silver colored waterpump that it was replaced. Thats one way to see if you got your moneys worth.

First off, love your videos for all the mopar vehicles I work on. Your videos along with alldata are my guru/bible when it comes to repairs. In regards to the video, so you need to support the engine with a jack and wooden block when removing the T55 center mount bolt, but then afterwards, you show yourself removing the balancer without the engine supported. So does it need to be mmmmm remain supported or just for the removal of the T55 bolt?

Also I'bought this car from an elderly couple about a year ago and the man told me he had a new timing belt put on right before i bought it. I've prob put 15 to 20k miles on it since then. I've looked and it does look good so should i just change the water pump?

Hi, i have a 2002 voyager, and its been timmed incorrectly by PO. I am going to attempt to rectify that. I have the proper puller for the balancer, what would you suggest to stop the engine rotating when i remove the balancer bolt? Also, are there any tricks i need know about specific to a voyager? Thanks Joel PS love the detail in your videos, it always helps.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 7 жыл бұрын
I take the balancer bolt off with an impact....either air, corded, or cordless. They make some puller holders. Otherwise it might be a chore. I havent tried to get one off any other way so what can and wont work....thats hard to say. I cant picture the Voyage procedure due to being soooo many years since I did one. Not sure if the wiper cowl assembly needs to be removed so as to get you more room. I think you should be okay on that and you should actually have more room then the PT. Great video. Thank you. I'm led to understand that the crank pulley on this car is pressed on real tight. I want to buy a 3 jaw puller from Amazon or Ebay. Will a normal 3 jaw puller be ok or do I need some kind on heavy duty puller? The pullers come in different sizes measured in inches. I would appreciate if you could tell me what inch size puller I need to buy. I'm in the UK and to my knowledge we do not have " loan a tool" providers as you have in the States.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 9 жыл бұрын
your typical 3 jaw will not work unless you have something inserted into the crankshaft. most pullers use the face of the crankshaft to push against inorder to pull the pulley off. the face of the crankshaft on this vehicle is behind the pulley so you cant push against it. you need a special puller.....some even describe the puller as a Chrysler puller. it will have a metal shaft in the center of the puller that is about 4-5 inches long that is smooth and not threaded. click this link to see the style im speaking of...... thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mF-cV21B-BkXPEfMOMM4hzg.jpg . thanks for taking the time to reply

So the Freon is just the from the AC lines... it doesn't affect the engine cooling - correct. The reason it was evacuated and the lines removed was for access reasons - is that correct? (That is, if all put back together and hooked up but Freon not added, only the AC would be affected?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah....the a/c wont affect any other systems. You can do it with out removing the freon but it gives you more room. If you have done this a few times then you can leave the freon in.....but if this is your first time, I recommend having it removed so that you can see everything and not have issues. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.

hello im stuck on the plate with the 3 15mm bolts and power steering pump. every time i jack the engine up the plate is pinned up against the frame. what im i doing wrong?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
+LEVENSKi Nelson Evening.....not sure what's going on from what your saying. Make sure that the engine mount in the frame rail isn't catching on the plate. You may need to pry the mount/engine apart while jacking it up to clear. The mount rests in a "valley/ledge" on the plate and when jacking the engine up it can get caught on the plate. Double check that first.

+Jow Day Sometimes you can put something between the legs of the puller to help stop it from spinning....like a breaker bar or pry bar. An air impact or electric impact helps alot in this situation as you already know but I fully understand if you don't have access.

reteece rhu salubre Morning, I usually don't disconnect the battery because I know what to do and not to do. But on the other and.....the first step in most repairs is to disconnect the battery for safety issues. Usually you have no issues when disconnecting and reconnecting the battery except in very rare situations. I believe you will be good either way.
