Tip: when it comes time to take the water pump off [the bottom right bolt], it may be helpful to take the pulley directly in front of it off, so you can get better access to that that 10mm bolt. I couldn't get it with taking that pulley off.

For some reason the cover won't come off and I am sure I have all the bolts out. for some reason it is binding down by the two 13mm bolts. I have yet to do anything on this car that was easy lol. at any rate these videos have been a major help and am very grateful for them. Thank you for making them.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 9 жыл бұрын
There should be 4x8mm bolts holding the cover and then the 2x13mm. Make sure you have the idler pulley taken off that has the 17mm bolt. Otherwise it may just be stuck in place. Do about 5 more of these jobs and then all will seem easy lol. Make sure to subscribe if your haven't all ready

Does it matter if the cam gears are switched? I didn't mark which came of exhaust and which came off intake cam. Btw, thanks for the video series MCM. Very helpful.

Somewhere between parts 5 and 6, the idler was replaced off-camera?
@xSUIJURISx
@xSUIJURISx 8 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up: Since this tensioner is on a cam it is possible the tensioner will be adjusted in a way that you will not be able to remove the back cover. I had to loosen the bolt on the cam and then use a 1/4" ratchet to adjust the pulley out of the way so that the rear timing cover could come around the pulley. For others who may not quite understand how the cam/tensioner works. I just wanted to say this video is probably one of the best tutorials Ive seen. You explain in great detail a lot of important things. Thanks again!

Thanks for the info Michael. I have to agree about the aftermarket parts......dont have faith in them over the years, too many jobs done twice or bad out the box issues. You have to pay more from the dealer or online when buying Mopar but much better quality in my opinion. Thanks again and make sure to subscribe.

Very nice videos. When the rack goes up and the engine goes down, I don't c the wood under the pan. Do u let it drop all the way down? Also, do u disconnect the exhaust? Do u only put the block under the pan when go up with the engine ( down with the rack) and then let hang when u go down with engine (up with the rack)?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
I dont do anything with the exhaust. I place a block under the oil pan itself....the wider the better.....that helps me when lowering the vehicle to get the engine up....but take your time and make sure nothing is binding. You can only go so much before the whole vehicle moves. Otherwise when I go all the way up with the vehicle I dont need anything supporting the engine....it hangs fine

We had a local mechanic do mine. I have an 07 Pt Cruiser. I got it home and it was gurgling. Should I be worried? My husband saw it taken apart, and we can smell gasket material. At least it didnt overheat. Idk yet. Help!

How did you stop the cams from turning when you torqued the sprocket bolts?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 4 жыл бұрын
They make different tools you can buy to hold the pulley. I personally use a large channel lock pliers and grasp the pulley/sprocket. Gives me enough grip and doesnt damage anything. I use that came tool to push caliper pistons back in when doing brake jobs as well.

+xSUIJURISx I don't remember the exact year. I do know that the sane repair works on all years of the PT Cruiser. The only difference I have ever seen is the timing belt tensioners. Otherwise is the same repair
