Great video, super informative. I don't know if you're still replying to comments here, but I am building with a 3.2m span (wanted an internal measurement of 3m). I was still going to go with 5x2's. Am I taking a risk? Would I be better doubling up for that? Thanks

Hi James, I’ve really enjoyed watching your KZfaq videos. They have been really insightful and helpful for me so I can create my own outside room. I’m Planning my build on a concrete base 6m x 6m (1 m of this to be an overhang). Room size 6m x 5m I plan to do the roof like you have with OSB and a rubber membrane. Could you guide me on what size roof joists I would need. I am planning a flat roof, and need to maximise the internal space height for a yoga studio for my wife. Many thanks for your help in advance, you did say send a message if you need anything. Keep making the great content Karl👍👍👍

Well done with all the videos, good content and very informative. Can you clarify how you are actually fixing joists onto the walls - are you using something specific to holding the roof on? Some use joist hangers upside down. The reason I ask is where I live the wind can get really get strong, so keen its on really secure. Cheers

Thanks very much 👍👍 We screw them down with 100mm screws. Over the lintel we stake it in from the top at an angle, two on one side and one on the other. Where you can, we screw up from underneath the wall into the joists. You can do all the rears like this. Plenty strong enough. Can use upside down joist hangers if you want but we’ve done the calculations and it’s overkill.

Thanks for the great videos, always informative and clear! Question on skylights, do you ever install them and if so, are there any extra steps/precautions to take against potential interstitial condensation? I keep thinking there would be an issue with the trimmers and the small distance between the warm internal air and cold roof near the glazing (unlike normally where the full depth of the rafters separate the space)?

No it would be absolutely fine with proper insulation 👍

Will you be discussing ventilation when you come onto insulation of the roof and how to stop any moisture from developing? . I aim to build my own Garden Room and using your videos as a good reference channel - thanks
@creategardenrooms

Hybrid roof, insulation goes right up tight to the deck so we don’t get a moisture buildup. As easy as that. Low occupancy rooms, there isn’t showers or kettles creating loads of moisture so this system works for us. Cheees Cheers.

Hi, great work. I was wondering, would this not be over the 2.5m height? As the concrete base looked really deep. Does the 2.5m not start from the grass level?

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I will be building mine soon. What size joist would you use for 7m x 4.4m garden room?

Could you 2x 5x2 doubled up with flitch beams or alternatively 5x4 timber if you can get it. Would need to put in 2 rows of noggins too 👍

Hi, do you adjust the angle of joists at front and back the fascia board? or you cut the lengths at right angle? Great videos, best wishes. Seb
@creategardenrooms
@creategardenrooms 9 ай бұрын
Good question! And yes we cut them at 90 degrees so the whole roof deck is at the same angle. Keeps all the trims and facias square which looks best 👍

Hi mate, do you cut the roof joist level (in an angle) or just square to the timber? If that makes sense?

Hi. I just came across your chanel. A very informative channel. Thank you. Watching it religiously as I am preparing to make a 5.5mx 3m garden workshop. You mentioned using a 2x5 for a 3m span for roofs at 400c. Is this correct? Span tables suggest this is only good for upto 2.56m span? I was going to use 2x6, but 2x5 will increase internal height if i can use that. Can u please confirm if i can use 2x5 for 3m span without it falling around my ears😂. Thank you so much.

Thanks for watching!! We’ve built loads of spans with 5x2 for 3m and they’re absolutely fine, span table is proper overkill, if you’re worried just stick 2 rows of noggins in as that will help but you don’t need to 👍👍

Can 2x4 be used for the roof joists?

If you like. It might flex a bit so not ideal but I’m sure they would be fine. May aswell use 5x2 👍

Can you go thinner on the roof OSB if needed?
@creategardenrooms
@creategardenrooms 9 ай бұрын
I guess so, probably wouldn’t save much ££ so not worth it. Remember the roof acts as a massive structural brace so it’s quite important 👍

Thanks. Just I have to move all the materials 100m up a 1 in 4 slope, so the lighter the better, but appreciate it needs to be structurally sound !!!!@@creategardenrooms

Hi, I have a question when you run the joists across the top because of the fall the joists will not sit fully flush on the back wall plate and front wall plate, they will only be touching on a point due to the fall of the roof- am I seeing this right? Or does the front and back have a matching angle of the fall allowing full contact ?
@creategardenrooms
@creategardenrooms 9 ай бұрын
Hi there. Yes you are seeing it right, the joists only it on a small mart of the rear wall plate, it’s enough as there isn’t a whole lot of weight on the roof 👍
