I think one thing too is that while a tv show is more consistent, a big movie roll pays more for a lot less time working.

I take it like Steve Harvey said. Sometimes you have to quit what you're good at, break through the glass ceiling, to reach your highest potential. He had to quit stand up and turned around and got so many daytime TV shows and became known as an inspirational speaker in addition to STILL being a comedian. Her approach/execution was the problem though.

I agree she shouldn't have tweeted her feelings out in public but people should try to understand where she's coming from. She's been doing FOTB for 5 seasons now and it would be a normal feeling to want to do another role to grow as an actress. Especially a role that may not be limited to just an Asian role (which she has on FOTB). Double edge sword, the shows positive representation opens doors for you, but contractually keeps you from going through them. I get the frustration. Probably going through your career getting stereotypical roles / the “that perspective won’t sell” “you playing the love interest won’t be believable” ect... would be frustrating. Then having a show that disproves the “it won’t succeed/sell” narrative & finally being taken seriously enough to be offered roles you otherwise typically wouldn’t. Only to realise you can’t accept it anymore because you’re tied down to the show, that’s filming schedule probably clashes with the other project. It’s not so much ungrateful (I’m assuming) but a hurdle of realising representation isn’t an automatic door opener / final solution and now there are just new obstacles, like time / contracts to navigate.

Besides being extremely ungreatful, she was super unprofessional, not only did she manage to take the attention away from the show being picked up, she managed to anger fans, gave herself a bad image and also created an awkward work atmosphere..imagine how the directors/producers/cast of the show are gonna feel knowing she hates being there.. It's not just sitcoms it's also primetime shows, when u do a show the contracts lock u down for several seasons in advance, and 2hile they have the discretion to write u off show u can't quit. So when an actor is trying to do other things they are limited because of the time constraint, and have to turn down a lot of other opportunities possibly their dream role. While I don't agree with her posting her feelings on social media I completely understand her wanting to move on. Also just because we as fans love to see actors in a certain role doesn't mean its a great fit for the actor.

Hmm, I guess even the industry people we'd consider having it all can still get caught up in egoism with social media public meltdowns but chalk it up to the frenzy of emotions the platforms are designed to make you feel. While I do wonder at the professionalism of publicly tweeting about her disappointment, but I wonder how we are perpetuating the culture of putting women down for feeling any kind of way. So what, just because she is thankful for and celebrating success, she isn't allowed to be upset at losing a potentially once-in-a-lifetime opportunity? Her character is also somewhat typecast on this show, which I absolutely love, and the show living on for many more season can definitely limit her marketability, both now and down the road. Obviously, she doesn't want to abandon the family on her TV show, and she's expressed being thankful for the job itself, but the ache of disappointment, and the anger at lost opportunity just when doors finally appeared to be opening to her, I can 100% see where she is coming from with her posts. I do understand that in the industry, she should be grateful for such a long-running job on a show with such acclaim, and when the disappointment/frustration/etc. eased off, she did express that, but we as a society put so much hate on women for righteous anger - anger that can be used to fuel change. Perhaps if Constance were in a stronger position, she could negotiate the other project waiting for her, or negotiate the tv show story lines minimizing her character's part within the storyline to allow her the chance to fulfill another project, TOO, not instead of. I do see that this is the opportunity for another Asian woman to step up and shine, too, but none of us know how invested Constance was in the other project, whether it was her brainchild, whether she helped develop the character/project, etc. The project could essentially' be a "life's work" project, as we don't have details, we can't know. And I can absolutely get behind her well deserved anger and frustration at feeling tied into a show that shes' grateful gave her a platform to achieve other goals - and I know nothing about her behavior on set or behind the scenes - that denies her from growth, as an actor or as a person. How many times have we heard this from actors who were either typecast or blacklisted from Hollywood following particular roles?! Give the woman a break and all her to be REAL in her feelings, because for right or wrong, she'll have to own that, too.

Couldn't Constance just opt out of her contract or leave? I dont know what she signed for but many actors leave tv sitcoms for better deals or get replaced with new actors. If she cant leave then she should only go after opportunities that she can do that doesn't disrupt her role in the show. I agree with everyone though. Constance should be happy she has that role. Without it no one would know who she is, and she's getting paid a steady pay check. If she didn't want to be on the show she shouldn't have auditioned for it.
