Canadian soldiers are pinned down by a German machine gun nest in a Belgian village during WW1.
Taken from the 2008 movie 'Passchendaele', the scene at the end with the young German soldier was based on the experiences of actor/producer/director Paul Gross's grandfather, who killed a young soldier in just this manner, and it haunted him to his dying day. The horror of war and no mistake.

Canadian actor/producer director actually took part of this scene from his own grandfathers actual WW1 combat experience. He and his grandfather had been very close, and the only person his grandfather told about allot of it was his grandson..Paul. He bayoneted, a German kid in the forehead just like in this scene. It haunted him the rest of his life. On his death bed he stated, "God Forgive me"... Only his grandson..Paul, knew what that was about.. Paul did "Hyena Road" a few years ago. Also pretty good.

@@foreverblueclassics I saw it in the theatre, bought the DVD and watched 3 times... where am I? I was just to the left in this shot, just to the right in that shot, peeking out of a trench in this shot, etc. I finally discovered that during the opening scene of the film, the solitary German soldier advancing across No Man's Land is me!

@@TheSteveRobinson It all sounds like part of the fun of being an extra! It's a strange film this one. The action scenes are excellent but they concentrated far too much on the relationship between the soldier and the nurse and I found those scenes kind of dragged. But when the war action comes it is very well done and overall it's a good WW1 movie. I wish I'd had the experiences you had taking part in it, that's for sure!

Evidently the German soldier was so young the sutures in his head had not fused yet. I mean why else would a bayonet penetrate quarter inch of bone with a gentle little thrust. And to top it off, not get stuck. It was also brilliant strategy to use his buddy's body as a human shield. How did he know that an 8mm Mauser bullet can be stopped by a human body. I would have thought it would have passed through both of them and not even begin to tumble yet.
@JohnSmith-yv6eq

The germans experimented with slaves in WW2. A standard 8mm Mauser bullet fired from a K98 Mauser penetrated 7 to 8 human chests when the humans stood close one behind the other. One human body was no protection at all against theses full power military full jacketed rounds....
@CollectorChronicles
@CollectorChronicles 8 ай бұрын
It would have absolutely shot through both. A standard 8mm K98 round with go through steel plate half in thick and it looks like a drill press went through it. MG rounds were usually a hotter load on top of it.

Sounds like a German prisoner soldier given the choice...be executed or die fighting??? Just like SOE agents were taught how to cut throats silently by "giving" them men who were to be executed by the British.. (hung for murder, rape etc.) and were offered the chance to do one final thing for their country.. allow themselves to killed by an agent in training.

I have always loved this scene, how morbid it sounds. He was in a very difficult position, I think. The german soldier probably had a mother, father, brother, sister, girlfriend… all waiting for him to come home, so to stab him right in the forehead and killing him instantly, must be one of the hardest things to do. He is just like you, but when you stand there you will (I guess) have to think: If I let him live, what will he do? Stab me as soon as I turn my back? Once he gets home, will he tell everyone he meets how evil my men and my unit was? All these questions, and nobody to answer them, so you must assume the worst and kill a human being already in great pain. The whole ordeal is; Its either you or him that gets to live and tell the tale.

Buonasera amico mio, sei gentilissimo come sempre 😍.

What a great fight clip mate! After the shots are arranged one after another, the final conflict scene is so reasonable. First, the UK soldier who was lucky enough to survive the attack woke up, but he did not abandon his duty to continue fighting, and what he saw was that many of his comrades were killed by the hateful soldiers of the invading country. His anger is completely conceivable! After fighting bravely, he captured the enemy, at this time, the ridiculous soldier of the invader country actually wanted to surrender in exchange for a chance to live, as if to say : yes, I killed some of your comrades, I am sorry, but I am Surrender now, I surrender! Forget about your comrades, I am a prisoner of war, you can't kill me, haha! I don't know what others think, but I think the same as the British soldier, that cunning man just looks like a hateful enemy, he is not a non-combatant! He surrendered? No, it's still fighting! Go to hell! He avenged many of his fallen comrades, and rightfully so. Maybe someone will accuse him, but at least I won't. This video is so brilliant mate! You always upload a lot of good videos that I haven't seen, thank you very much!

Thank you mate, you are very kind as always! I uploaded this scene many years ago (it's still way down my channel) but this is a much clearer version so better. This scene is actually based on a real event, so it is very sad. The main actor (he also produced and directed it) knew there was something eating away at his grandfather and one day he told him of the time he'd bayoneted a young German soldier "with eyes like water" through the forehead. As he lay on his dying bed he kept repeating over and over again "forgive me, forgive me" and only Paul Gross (the actor) knew what he was begging forgiveness for. This was many decades after the event so it just shows how the horrors of war can haunt a man the rest of his days. It was war and people do horrible things to each other in it. Let's just be glad we don't have to know what it is like for real! I will do more from this movie soon I hope, so keep viewing! Many thanks again!

You were protecting your family and compatriots from the hateful aggressors, there are many people were saved because of you! The invaders should be damned, and they should be condemned. Let that poor old hero get the honor and peace he deserved for fighting for his country. Don't know how he comforted the poor old man at that time, it would be a pity if he didn't say anything.
