Celine Song's Past Lives, with Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro is bound to be one of 2023's finest films, and perhaps even an awards contender.

Teo Yoo's performance blew me away. Just the longing and sadness he is able to convey with his eyes. And some of his lines towards the end broke me. At the very least, the script needs to be nominated for best screenplay.

The way he conveys that unsure longing, that discomfort with being in another country-in another *life* of Nora's. He's perfect.

Teo Yoo was the standout for me. The emotions he was able to convey just with his face. From the moment he saw her in Central Park to the ending scene, my heart shattered to a million pieces.

The quick cut at the end showing them as kids was sublime. Gave me chills. There they are once again the two kids standing together but also apart on their divergent paths. The memory now in nighttime mirroring their present was beautiful visual poetry. A realization that their feelings for each other can only exist in a time and space both real and imaginary. Kudos to Celine Song.

*spoilers* I got goosebumps at the end as well, when they were staring at each other/when he gets into his Uber. I didn't think that I was going to cry, but I started crying when they were talking in the bar commenting on how they shared past lives with each other. Then I started to lose it when he remarked at the end as he was getting into the Uber that they may be together in the next life and he said "see you then," ugh, that was SO relatable for me. When she cried at the end, I couldn't hold back my tears anymore.

Just saw this movie today, left the theatre shattered and crying. I won't be able to think about a lot of other things for a week or more because this has deeply impacted me. Greta Lee doesn't cry but sure does know how to make us cry watching her. Celine Song, you are lovely. The score and cinematography was also surreal. This is definitely the best film i've seen yet so far for 2023 and it logs into the top 5 of the films that i love the most. Also, mah man TEO YOO, the emotion that you convey with your eyes, ❤.

I think at the very end... Hae Sung found closure. He was never rude to Nora during the entire film... but while waiting for the Uber on the final scene, he tells Nora "You are the one who always leaves". I never left". This is absolutely true as Nora leaves him as children to go to Canada and then she leaves him again when reconnected 12 years after to focus on her career. Those words from Hae Sung broke her (literally) when she (once again) becomes a "crybaby" in the arms of Arthur. A second watch is a must on this particular movie to piece everything together. Hae Sung leaves on the Uber without looking back. He knows he can now finally move on back in Seoul after finding closure. She is the one that will now struggle with guilt, regret and sadness. I think this movie is very deep and extraordinary. I hope it wins an Oscar.

This is so real. It’s such a simple story that’s told so beautifully through these performances and some amazing camera work. The long one-takes were astounding, especially, like you mentioned, at the end - walking to the Uber pickup, standing there and looking at each other - walking back. That sequence was told with such a meaningful collection of so few shots where the tension was broken exactly once (when he finally looked away) (I gasped out loud). There are a hundred reasons this simple love triangle story is getting so much Oscar buzz.

Celine Song's father is Song Neung-han, the director who directed "Number 3" Korean Gangster film in 1997 that appears to be quite excellent. And the casts were Han Suk-kyu (Christmas in August), Song Kang-ho (Parasite), Choi Min-sik (Oldboy).

Watched it today and loved it, walking out emotionally shaken (and still am). The movie's ending, and to some extent the "In-Yeon" theme, reminded me of another great romance movie made in Taiwan called "You're the Apple of My Eye". Anecdotally, this applies to friendships too. I grew up with my childhood buddy whose half-Korean, until he immigrated to the US (abruptly due to family issues) at around 15yr old and like in the movie, we lost in touch for a while and I went on to study in a different country, and also "stalked" him on Friendster (pre-Facebook era) before we managed to establish connection to keep in touch. Like in the movie, we finally got to meet after more than a decade of not seeing each other, in Seoul! We are still good friends to this day. Definitely a lot of bittersweet knowing that neither of us are going to give up our own lives to be with the other.

I'm gonna be watching this movie many a times in my lifetime. A beautiful movie through and through. This is a raw movie. The ending is so so beautiful. Oscars totally got this movie wrong i guess. Celine could've gotten the director nomination. Greta Lee should have been in Best Actress replacing Annette Bening because that performance didn't hold a candle to Greta's performance. No matter what people say. Even John Magaro deserved a supporting actor nomination. Should've gotten cinematography, score , editing. But ultimately I'm happy in a year with such competition it managed to get 2 nomination speaks volumes. I'm happy. It's gonna be my personal favourite movie.

I thought this was good but it was no where near spiderverse good. Spiderverse almost made me cry.... this movie was... too predictable. Everything u experienced to happen happens. Now, if she was robbed after the Uber drives away or she actually leaves with him or he moves to New York, then you're actually doing something. Instead it's the very classic what if and now there's nothing we can do based on our current stances. And don't forget, the ongoing thing is that she is a "cry baby" so when she cries at the end, that's unfortunately just her being too overemotional. So idk for me... 6/10. I did like it, I think its good, but I did think it even deserves one oscar. I will say this is this years mank or first man, it's the favorite right now but by the time January comes along it'll be something else. And once again, if flower moon wins I'll be pissed. Apple tv!TV!! I still haven't seen Coda.

The male lead was awful. The female lead needed to be more charismatic. The whole thing felt very lazy and hampered by the numbers directing choices. The visuals were stunning. Props to the cinematography. The American dude was awesome. This will be forgotten in one year without any major awards. It made you wish you were watching one of those movies it borrowed from that were 100x better: Before Sunrise, Aftersun, Eternal Sunshine…
