Funny commentary aside. The XFL does NOT need gimmicks that is what killed it in 2001 and management has done an excellent job by making it fun to watch without the gimmicks. I mean you can’t tell me you don’t enjoy watching Landry Jones slow-mo scrambles then he tells the sideline commentators how proud he was of his scrambles, that was pure gold!

He is correct, there does not seem to be much of a need for more standard football but at a much lower caliber of play. I wonder if the XFL will need to add some type of wrinkle part way through the season to regain attention when the NCAA tourney and baseball starts, the NFL draft heats up and the NBA goes down the stretch. I wonder if there is a way to encourage laterals, I think it would be neat to see runners pitch the ball.

The regional teams idea is good because most people have no emotional attachment to these brand new teams. People would feel a local attachment to even players they do not know. The downside is if a region dominates and everyone else gives up because it is hard to see a path to catching them if your region is weaker.

I think he's on to something with regional drafting only. If you could only have local boys, it would allow fans to be me invested. It would also help to build rivalries. Just imagine "those guys from Florida can't play in New York in the fall they can't handle the cold." Or, "those guys from the north are soft they build them different down here." It would really make fans vested.

The recruiting guys from the same area is exactly what the AAF did. They had teams made by region in where they went to college and it didn’t work

I believe the North American Football League was going to implement a regional draft similar to what Bert was suggesting - for example NAFL teams in the Southwest Conference would only have access to players from colleges in the southwest region. I thought it sounded pretty interesting. Too bad the league commissioner embezzled ALL the investors' money, so the league never got off the ground.

I feel like it should be the Longest Yard, almost.

The problem with teams getting regional recuits is that the southern teams will get the best from the SEC while teams up north like New York will get players from Rutgers

I like the Tampa bay Strippers. Colors could be black and pink, but they have a zebra stripe going down the side of their pants.
