Pathfinder Fuel Level Reads Wrong-Fuel Gauge-Cluster Repair-R50

This fix requires basic tools, but it's very technical, so take your time and pay attention! This repair will probably work on early 90's through 2015, any pathfinder that isn't a digital cluster. But this problem occurs mainly on the early 2000's Pathfinder, including my 03.

The old guy is like a great surgeon! How many clusters died in his hands until he found the real sens of "not too much" and "gentle push"... Wonderful and scary movie! Unique!

extremely helpful video. finally a solution to my gas gauge problem. Had two mechanics change the sending unit without success. I cant wait for weekend so i can do this repair and then change the light bulbs to LED!!!

Well done! I would strongly urge anyone doing this repair on the cluster to make sure you have a can of Deoxit-5 contact cleaner at the ready for cleaning all your multipin plugs and bulb sockets. There will probably be 20+ years of oxidization on any metal contacts and you sure don't want to have to pull the cluster again after reinstalling.

I tried this and it worked. Thank you so much. I’ve been having a check engine light and my fuel gauge was always stuck at full. I did your method and cleared the check engine light, gas gauge has been going down🙌🏾. Thank u so much my friend🙌🏾

This is exactly what I needed! I just stumbled into this video because I was trying to figure out how to get the needles back to home from working on something else. Now my fuel gauge works again! Thanks so much! I have an 03 Pathfinder.

Thank you for sharing. Fixed 03 Pathfinder with gauge always reading FULL unless connector removed from sending unit. Resistance measurement correct from cluster connector M24 pins 17 to 31. So... has to be gauge issue. How did you find these resistor being the cause? Did you find a cluster schematic somewhere? I was planning on following traces on the board from each connector pin (17 and 31) to layout the control circuit. Well done! Thank You!

Do I have to remove the resistor that is not working or is it just melt the older solder and and solder over it?

The issue with the cluster was not the resister itself, it was the poor soldering that was the issue. So yes, just heat up the old solder on all 4 resisters, and re-flow with new solder. Sorry for the late reply, hope you got it figured out!

is this common issue with pathfinder? i have 2004 nissan pathfinder chinnok edition. my fuel gauge was never hit empty,and its always in full position

From reading the forums I would say this is a common problem with the older pathfinders. Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks for the video. I have 3 resistors at 120 and 1 at 130. Is the one at 130 an issue? The gas gauge on my cluster has the same exact issue. Thank you

I would say to re flow all 4 registers on the cluster. The 130 ohms doesn't seem to be too much of a problem compared to what this one showed. But definitely give it a try! Also, after you have re flown the resisters to drive the vehicle to see if the low fuel light comes on before you put the dash back together. Best of luck! One more note: Sometimes this isn't the main problem causing the low fuel light not to come on. Again, going off from your readings, I would suggest looking at the fuel sending unit inside the gas tank. That could also cause an issue. Best of luck!

@@Ps3mn1 Thank you so much. The fuel sending unit was replaced a few weeks ago, so I don't think that's the problem. Will try the resistors 🤞

@24lponce Sounds good, this is going off from what I know personally. Reflowing the resisters did drop the ohms, the fuel gauge has been working properly since the fix. If you have any questions feel free to post again! And if you do remember, I'd love to hear back from you if soldering on the resisters solved the problem! But you should tell the difference right away once you reconnect the sockets to the board. Best of luck!
