Welcome to D6damage. Today I’m going over the Wizard Class for Pathfinder. I'll be going over class features like arcane bond which can either be a bonded object or a familiar, the Wizard bonus feats, arcane school specializations, oppositon schools, as well as the wizard spell book and prepared spells.

Opposition schools. Reminds me of a book called magisterum. Where in order to cast a spell (without side effects like, losing control, turning into elementals etc.) Used counter balances. Like if a fire mage goes to cast a spell, a water mage or I think a bucket of water can be nearby to make sure it doesn't go.... out of hand.

Ugh! I hope that the next person to say that Gandalf is a wizard rolls all 1s in his stats. Gandalf is a *sorcerer*!!! He draws his magic from being an angel in a human body! Not from studying arcane tomes and lore! Mortals cannot learn to cast spells under any circumstances.

Finally one of my favorite classes. It's interesting to note that the *Necromancer* is actually the one wizard who actually benefits from spending points on Charisma as you suggested, since the DC of their Command Undead is based on it. Most other wizards will instantly dump charisma, but the Necromancer is the one wizard who actually wants to have it at around 14 or so, which is a testimant to the class' versatility....even the charismatic wizard is possible with the right choice of school specialization/build focus.

D6Damage Pragmatic Activator (trait) makes UMD Int based. Now Enchanters and people planning to use Planar Binding alot will get mileage out of Cha.
@josephcittadino6541
@josephcittadino6541 7 жыл бұрын
Enchanters still want to dump that cha to 8, though, because they can use Int instead of Cha on bluff and diplomacy checks with the Student of Philosophy trait. However, the Diabolist/Planar binder wizard still wants some, your right about that. However, unlike the Necromancer they can reasonably get away with a 12 in cha, while the Necromancer really wants no less than 14.
@thanatos7430
@thanatos7430 7 жыл бұрын
Joseph Cittadino Depends on what the Enchanter is trying to get his target to do. If he asks him to do something it wouldn't normally do, he has to make a Charisma Check. Since you never know what your DM will deem to be in that category, you can't afford to entirely dump Charisma as an Enchanter.
@josephcittadino6541
@josephcittadino6541 7 жыл бұрын
I was not aware that they had to make opposed cha checks for that kind of thing. I was under the impression that the main reason the enchanter wants charisma is because they get social skill bonuses, which student of philosophy allows you not to take a penalty to (and have a massive bonus, to boot) even with a dumped cha. If what your saying is true (and I have no doupt it is, since there are a lot of rules in this game, and while I love the idea and playstyle of arcane casters, I'm almost always playing a divine caster in pathfinder because it's a role that I highly enjoy and a lot of other people don't happen to enjoy. So most games somebody else is already playing a sorc/wizard and thus I roll up a cleric or Oracle because people are quicker to snatch up the arcane role than the divine one) enchanters do actually have a solid use for it, so thanks for letting me know! As for planar binding wizards, as I said, you really want around 14 cha like the necromancer, but unlike the necromancer can afford to go down to 12 cha if you really need the points elsewhere. However, if your planning on taking up the Diabolist prestige class as a planar-binding specialist (which, if you are of the right alignment and your party is ok with you dealing with devils, you totally should since that PrC actually makes you way better with planar binding (at least when it comes to binding devils) than a vanilla conjurer.) then you probably do want the starting 14 since you get a few nice class features that use Cha to set uses/day, paticularly one that lets your damaging spells deal part of their damage as hellfire damage, which is not only a supre rare damage type, but one that hands out some nice debuffs, if I remember correctly. I do, however, find it quite amusing how the only wizards that really benefit a lot from Cha happen to be the two most iconic "villainous wizards" from fantasy...the devil-binder/diabolist and the necromancer. (The enchanter is less blatantly in your face eeeeeevil, I admit, but they benefit far, far less from a high cha than the necro wizard and diabolist, especially because student of philosophy is a thing and a thing you should be taking as an enchanter...meaning you really don't want more than 12 cha as an enchanter because that tasty con and tasty dex will help you *way* more than cha) Despite, the Necromancer wizard by far benefits from a high cha more than any other build of the class. Not only is it vital to commanding the undead you create with the Create Undead line of spells, but if you pick up the agent of the grave prestige class (which you should) it can flat out replace con for determining your HP, and also powers a few of your agent of the grave class features, such as your touch attack/pet heal. In fact, if your starting at a fairly high level, it's totally feesable for a Necromancer wizard to dump con all the way down to 10 to pump cha because of the fact agent of the grave lets them sub their cha for con when calculating their HP. Granted, they'll have less HP from the few wizard levels needed to enter, but at that point they can shove their favored class bonus into HP to have an effective con bonus of +1 for their HP until hitting agent, at which case they can use cha instead of con and start getting 3+ extra HP at each level, even after they can no longer progress in agent (since once you hit agent you can keep subbing cha for con regardless of what class your leveling in, for the rest of your character's leveling process.) Also, if you really feel like it, you can be an enchanter and necromancer at the same time, with the amazing Undead Master archetype. This gives a wizard of any school specialization the tools and abilities needed to be good with necromancy (or at least the undead animating aspect of it), including early access to animate dead (you get it when a cleric does if you take that archetype) and thus early access to Agent of the Grave. An Undead Master wizard who's specality school is enchantment would perhaps be the absolute best wizard when it comes to leveraging a high cha due to it being used for their undead commanding, agent of the grave powers and also their enchantment magics. In fact, I'd argue this build may be better than a straight necromancy specialist undead lord preciesly because enchantment and necromancy have great synergy as schools, and enchantments also become very strong if you take up agent of the grave. Necromancy tends to debuff saves quite a lot, and enchantment tends to be almost all save-or-sucks. Enchantment spells tend to be useless against a lot of things, the most common of which is undead, and necromancers happen to be really effective against undead. The two schools go so well together it's scary, and being able to burn uses of your useless enchanter touch attack to power command undead is an absolute godsend to the enchanter who finds themselves faced with a skeleton hoard whom they can't effect with their sleeps, suggestions and dominates. Being an Undead Master as an enchanter covers one of your biggest weaknesses, while also letting you "boost" your enchantment DCs without really any feat investment, since if you invest in necromancy spell foci instead of enchantment spell foci your enchantment save-or-sucks will land just as easily as those of a wizard who sunk all their feats unto enchantment DCs because of how much you can debuff your enemy's saves with Necromancy. One school (Necromancy) seemlessly enhances the other (Enchantment), and also just so happens to cover one of it's biggest weaknesses (undead) very well. It's a match made in the hells, I'd say, and it seems like that would be a really fun wizard to play. Heck, just to add to the fun, Agent of the grave eventually lets you target undead with your enchantments despite their immunity (as well as treat them as humanoids for those spells if they where humanoids in life), giving you even more reason to combo these two specalties, and take up the Undead Master archetype as an enchanter.

Will you be doing anything for starfinder? and good video. personally I avoid wizards like the plague, sorcerers are funner to me. also our group has no qualms about setting that spellbooks on fire or destroying alchemy kits, sundering armor and weapons, etc. so personally I find wizard lacking just because when your DM runs intelligent creatures or actually hits your weaknesses, the wizard is one of the worst. which personally I enjoy. if nothing else because we've found that when someone has a perfectly optimized wizard, nobody else has fun. nobody likes knowing that one character could solve 80% of the problems themselves.

Good Video once again. Now, for me, wizards and other pure spell casters are not what I usually look into playing. I tend to prefer to slug it (or smash enemies with heavy weapons, big sword, etc) with enemies in melee. Now, I do like classes that mix spell casting with weaponplay, like Inquisitors, bards, etc, but that is just my opinion of them. I know what most people say, "Why play a big stupid fighter when you can play god?" But, eh, it's just my tastes.

CD Bach Going Fighter1/Wizard5/HellKnight Signifier 4/Eldritch Knight 10 will let you do both. It ends with BAB16 and 9th level spells. Paladin2/Scaled Fist Monk1/Sorcerer2/Dragon Disciple X/Eldritch KnightY will be a bit more smash than the above, but still a blast. If you worship Desna and use her Way of the Shooting Star feat while wielding Starknives you can have Cha to AC (monk), Charisma to saves (Paladin), and Charisma To Hit and Damage (Way of the Shooting Star). Other fun bits Noble Scion (War) will give Charisma to Initiative. So a fully Charisma dependent melee beater is possible.

I honestly expected more. Sorry for the harp-fest below, but Wizard is my favorite class. I have also spent a lot of time learning them and hoped for more out of you for the Class Analysis. Maybe you will go over them in more detailed sub guides at a later time, and I hope you do because this class is hands down the most powerful class (when played at its upper limits of optimization) and one of the most intricate and complex classes to learn to play. Building or playing poorly can make them the weakest class and rather useless in a party. aren't going to be hitting in melee? Transmuters say Hi. Transmutation Spells often don't rely on saves, so they can skate by with a lower Intelligence in order to boost strength/dex and their School Power can further enhance this. At low levels the idea of buffing your To Hit stat of choice is limited to Transmuters, but by the mid levels (5+) anyone can rival or exceed the Fighter/Barbarian of the group's ability to lay a hurting in melee combat. Evokers can also bring pain in the form of Shocking Grasp from level 1 onward. Touch attack spells are not lacking for those brave enough to get into melee range of that Orc and his Falchion. Can't take much punishment? Con is the second most important stat for a Wizard. While their HD itself is the lowest grade no Wizard is going to walk around with less than a 14 in Con. This means they are only going to be a few HP lower on average than the D10 and D12 folk. False Life and it's greater versions are enough to shore up the HP difference and Extending them to last all day is something that can be done from the mid levels onward. This is before damage mitigation abilities like Stone Skin, Resist Energy, Absorb Energy. They also have abilities to tell enemies good try for hitting them, such as Blur, Mirror Image, Displacement and more. Limited Armor? Fair point. Silken Ceremonial, Haramaki, and Mithral Bucklers (upgrade later to Clawhand Shield) are fairly limited. Not that you care because they are just there to throw enchantments on. Spell Storing, Defiant, Mirrored just to name a few. Prep random spells like Tiny Hut? No! Carry a scroll of it? Sure. Sorcs having more spell slots? Nah, not really. 4+1 for school specialization means base 5. Sure the Sorcerer gets to 6, and that is 1 more than you have, but his recharge a slot item is twice as expensive as yours. So as a Wizard, you can buy 2 to his 1, which evens the field. Again, you don't need to max Int for every Wizard. So smashing someone in the face with your Quarterstaff with Power Attack is easy from level 3 onward. Wearing Armor like your buddies is easy with Arcane Armor Training and a Mithral Chain Shirt. Non-proficiency is not an issue. Oh no! I take the Armor Check Penalty of 0 to my To-Hit roles!

@thanatos7430 7 жыл бұрын
Timothy Nicholson Sorry, was going from memory on that one. I haven't used that feat in a long time. My main point is still valid in that wearing armor is still viable for a Wizard without an overly heavy investment. As I pointed out earlier in my comment, for a Wizard armor or a shield is really more of something to hang enchantments on than a tool to raise your Armor Class. If you are really worried about AC, just Magic Jar/Possession something with good Dex and natural armor. If the DM isn't giving good targets for that trick just Planar Bind something and take it for a joy ride. This also has the added benefit of giving you a large pool of "temp HP" in the means of your possessed's HP.

a wizard get a new spell every 2 level, not 3. And you forgot they have use magic device as a class skill too. my favorite class in rpg. and truly broken in pathfinder (well you suck a little the firsts 4 level, due to the fact you don't have enough spells and you are not that good at anything else, but you are a gamechanger at 5 and a game-breaking demigod at 15 onwards) a funny video would be a guide to survive the 4 firts levels as a wizard. you should decide what are your opposition schools based on your party : if you have an bard with maxed charisma, you can drop enchantement. A cleric can do most of the needed divination (detect magic spam) and for the rest, remember you are not banned form using spells from your opposition shcools, you just need 2 spells slots. in fact the only school you should not have opposed are conjuration and transmutation (and maybe illusion)
